Video playback start - how do I set that to 8s into timeline?
winkpain replied to LarsF's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
What could be the cause of it not being able to load? -
I too would love to see the video aspect functioning better. I can't even get the default engine change outlined here - https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=Troubleshooting.08.html to take hold (changing to Direct Show) in order to deal with Trim In-Out changes. Thanks for thinking about it!

Video playback start - how do I set that to 8s into timeline?
winkpain replied to LarsF's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I too am having (have always has) issues with changing the Trim in and out functions for editing with video. I have edited the Config file exactly as outlined in the above linked article, adding "[Video] VideoEngine=0" (without quotes) in my text editor, saving the edited Aud.ini file, reloading the config settings, hitting Apply, even re-saving the project and closing and re-opening CW. And still the video remains with the default Media Foundation engine and my playback issues remain problematic. I can confirm the edited Aud.ini file opening in a text editor again, but there is no indication in the Preferences/Audio/Configuration File window's Properties area of any video settings, either before or after adding the above lines. I'm not sure if anything should appear there or not. Is there a specific location within that text file where these lines should be placed? I have placed mine at the end, at the beginning, and within the body of the text between other [bracketed] sections, as well as including and alternately non including the line-break between the lines as shown in the documentation - all to no effect. -
I guess I'll add this here because it's a weird display thing. ( I haven't had the "ghost" line yet, btw) This has been happening for a while (since well before changing Windows visual preferences just today). Whenever I open my console window, notice how the Gain, Send, and Pan dials are all weird until I shrink and reopen the window.... 2019-09-06-18-03-16.mp4

Right on, David! Have done this as well, and we'll see if it happens again...

How do I change MIDI channel of specific notes on track

There is, for me, ALWAYS more to learn about the nuts and bolts of MIDI. Thank you all again! -
How do I change MIDI channel of specific notes on track

THANK YOU ! That is what I was looking for! I obviously mis-remembered. I feel so wonderfully less ignorant now. It's amazing how we just settle for things at times without diving into it to find the right way! Boom! -

@scook Very sorry. I saw his And in any case could not get simply those instructions to work. I was lead to the answer by @David Baay above. Thanks for the help! -
How do I change MIDI channel of specific notes on track
winkpain replied to winkpain's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Ahhhh! Yes, that's it! Setting the MIDI channel to "None" in the track strip (or header) does the trick! Bloody hell, it's been years of not knowing that! I remember reading in the reference manual somewhere that these track strip MIDI settings where just the initial settings for the track, taking precedence only when RTZ or if not changed throughout track. NOW I know. Thanks! -
I will try that next time it happens. It has cleared now. Thanks!

Unfortunately the advice in the above mentioned post did not work for me - in addition to it not working for the person in the post. -

I have been unable to figure out how to do this on CW. Is it possible to change the MIDI channel of a track throughout the course of playback, or does every separate channel require its own separate track?? For an example of my issue: I am writing orchestral music to be played thru Kontakt with various string patches (Violin legato, pizzicato, tremelo, etc.) loaded and accessed thru different MIDI channels within the Kontakt instrument. I would like my music for the Violin I, say, to be all contained on one single track with certain notes calling on specific differing loaded patches on different channels. This requires a MIDI channel change at various times on a single track. I can not find how to do this successfully in CW. The desired function is similar to what in other instruments would be a "Program/bank change" within the track, but a channel change seems not possible. Going into Event inspector or context menu of the notes in question and changing the MIDI channel there has no effect, oddly. The notes continue to only play back on the initial MIDI channel as set in the track strip for that track. How can this be done?

@Chuck E Baby No, I am not using a custom theme. I've never even altered the default CW theme or used lenses in the past. I have had this "ghost" line for quite a while (more than a year), albeit completely random, inconsistent, yet often.
-
@Starship Krupa This is a great idea! Thanks for bringing it up. I vote for an Aim Assist info toggle as well!
-
I too have been having this "ghost" now time line appearing over other windows (PRV, console, etc.) It is especially confusing when working in PRV which has its own time line marker. The problem is random, not consistently reproducible but occurs frequently and has for a while now.

That would be good! Certainly if a lane has been activated. And speaking of that, what then is the point you were making about activating a lane to begin with if it is not to indicate the lane that is the intended location of an insert? I'm still not understanding that....
-
What I am saying is that with track lanes open and activating any lane and double-clicking on a clip from the browser will only ever insert the clip into the most recent lane. You can see this in the attached video where activating lanes 1 - 3 successively and trying to insert a clip will only place it in Lane 4. If I understand you correctly, this seems to contradict what you are saying about active lanes. Only when lanes are closed will inserting single clips add it to a new lane. Activating lanes not working.mp4
-
@Noel Borthwick - all of my above comments only apply to trying to insert ONE clip at a time.
-
...Also, Importing a clip from File menu seems to oddly only write to take lane 2 whether lanes are open or not. (?!) I have videos of this but have reached my upload limit (I guess).
-
@Noel Borthwick - I am finding that it makes a big difference whether take lanes are visible or not for dragging/inserting new clips. If and ONLY IF take lane view is OFF will inserting new clips automatically create new take lanes. Otherwise, with take lanes visible, adding/inserting clips (by double click from browser) will only continue to overwrite onto the most recent lane, unless, of course, you DROP to a specific lane. I can get no double-clicking or drag-dropping behavior to create a NEW lane with lanes visible. Neither does double-clicking in the blank space of open lane to choose that lane work for inserting clip to that lane. The clips will only go to most recent lane. Hopefully these attached videos help explain... Choosing lane first doesn't work.mp4 Drag to take lanes with lanes open and closed.mp4

Interesting! So, what I am saying is, when "Zapping all" and returning to the default shortcut assignments, there seem to be some bindings that remain that are not represented in the Preferences-Keyboard Shortcuts window. In other words, the keystroke shows as "Unassigned" and nevertheless has a very obvious function. Specifically, and one that has caused me literally years of confusion until today, is the number keypad NUM 0 key. This is hard-coded to an obscure (to me) "Enhanced editing with keyboard" function that I had never heard of or seen talked about, nor is there even a corresponding menu item in the menu bar! I have to say that inadvertently hitting the NUM 0 key, a very easy thing to do, causes profound confusion in regards to cursor behavior when editing clips. This NUM 0 key engages Enhanced Keyboard Editing with no indication other than a secondary cursor line appearing at a track row (and only on one track) location somewhere in the project that can very easily be completely hidden to the user given whatever zoom level or screenset you may be using. And then, being completely oblivious to the fact that you are in keyboard editing mode, the normal cursor no longer behaves as one expects with edits and inserts happening at locations that seem totally random. Wow, has this driven me nuts! And I'm happy to now know the cause. But... what of this keyboard editing function? Why no mention in the menus and otherwise no indication of the mode being engaged or not? Why is such an important default keystroke (NUM 0) shown as unassigned??
-
Yes, this clarification certainly helps a lot when dealing with bindings and lenses, Morten. Thank you. I am now going down a road of trying to get a handle on other Key Bindings irregularities that I experience. So, can you tell us this: when we first go to Lenses/None to activate the "master list of global keyboard shortcut assignments" and then open Preferences/Keyboard Shortcuts and choose the command to "Zap all" thereby clearing all key bindings (so the documentation says), why are there still bindings that remain? And where can we see a list of those?? And I'm not talking about just the basic, reserved ones like Spacebar for Play and such. I am finding certain very specific and obscure bindings that just persist no matter what, even when reassigning keystrokes to other commands, and even when "Zapping all" - even when, in the list of bindings, the keystrokes that are having an effect are notated as "Not assigned" and the command that is instantiated shows no keystroke bound to it.... Sorry if this is confusing. The simple starter questions are, again: What key bindings persist when Lenses/None is chosen and Zap All has been applied?? Why does Zap All not clear these? And whatever those are, do they take precedence over any custom chosen bindings?? Where can we see a list of these???
