I just did the V Collection update from 9 to 11. There's quite a bit to unpack, but... I'm finding a lot of inspiration in Pure LoFi Acid sounds better than I was expecting. The Augmented series sounds pretty good with a lot of potential. They seem to still be pretty resource intensive. I'm not sure the others don't fill a need that isn't already covered.

Was it seriously ever worth the list price?

Their algorithm is weird. It will give you upgrades based on what you have but will ignore that you have the latest version. For example I have FX Collection 3 and I upgraded to 5. It will give me a price to upgrade to version 5 based on the fact that I have version 3 and ignore that I already have version 5.

It's more of a redundancy, like invited guest, true fact, etc.

The Sick Noise Instruments libraries are a bit frustrating to say the least. First, the zip files have directories that are so ridiculously long named that I have problems extracting them. Then there are the instruments that are only mapped over a small range of the keyboard. Nobody would believe me if I told them they had pad instruments that were only mapped over one octave, so I attached that below. Then there are a few instruments which are mapped starting at C0, when my 61 key controller starts at C1. These libraries actually have some good sounds in them but the limited range makes them a whole lot less useful than they could be.

The question will be asked as long as the desire remains unfulfilled.

Is there any source code available for either of these two projects or at least documentation of the CWP format? I would love to be able to come up with something that could combine the features of both.

As another example, I had a few tracks using Abbey Road Drums and Scarbee Rick Bass where the tracks were simply named AR Drums and Bass, with no other Kontakt instruments. Project scope could not find those because it was searching by track names and not instruments names.

This works nicely. Now I realized I have a lot of tracks with Alchemy I am going to want to bounce in case I have problems installing it when I replace my current DAW machine.

What I am looking for is something that will scan all files in my Cakewalk Projects/Sonar directory, and output a list of what instruments are used in each project. Nothing too complex.

I've used projectscope before, but it does not do a good job of finding instruments. It only seems to find instruments if they are in the effects rack (either used as effects or set up in the old school method.

If you want to Trash your sound, there are better plugins. If you want to get a vintage (dare I say retro) color with degradation that comes from using older media formats, this is the one.

There usually are some things that are not included that have been added since the release of the bundle. I suppose you could sell the original license and keep the bonus items, which they probably don't want you doing for $69.

I was wondering if anyone knew of an app which would be able to tell me which VST instruments are in use in my Sonar projects? I know there was one a while ago which could list which effects were in which projects.

Cakewalk acquired rgc:Audio about 20 years ago, so please don't bother Rene about this. He no longer has the rights. I'm pretty sure all of the IP resides with BandLab. After all, they included Square with CBB which was an older rgc synth.

The main problems I have with Kontakt have to do with me having used this over multiple versions, and certain quirks with NI, etc. For example, if you want to have one of your older libraries display in the new browser, you have to do what is called a "batch resave". However, doing so will make that library unreadable to older versions of Kontakt. Furthermore, Cakewalk does not have the ability to replace an instance of an older version of Cakewalk with a newer version. However, if you are simply using the latest version of Kontakt you will be fine.

That changes here and now. The DEATHWESTERN amp, even with the IR engaged, sounds like a DS-1 plugged directly into a console. Even if you were to turn the treble down all the way, it would still a tinny noisy mess.

Kinetic was pretty fun. It was a great way to put together some beats quickly. Not at all something most people would use to put a full song together, but good for what it did. The weird thing is that it was limited in the synths it would support (basically PSYN and the Roland Groove Synth) but if you had P5 or a friend that had one, you could generate presets for other synths that would work in Kinetic.

I actually have a VstPlugins32 and a VstPlugins32Only. The first is a dumping ground for plugins which have 32 and 64 bit versions, and the second is for older things like Delay Lama which are offered in 32 bit only versions. When I was still using 32 bit DAWs such as Project 5, I would have them scan both of these folders. Newer DAWs would only scan the 32Only folder, so that I didn't have to see the 32 and 64 bit versions of a plugin in plugin manager.

I think I'm going to get a lot more mileage out of the Lo-Fi Cartridge.
