  1. so convert bass samples to MIDI? some options include using Melodyne (i think minimum assistant to get MIDI out), or using EZBass (or an equiv product) which can read in audio and create the MIDI (or even suggest MIDI...)

in general copying and pasting and edit MIDI via the PRV is pretty easy to do. so let's say you have a serie of bass line samples you've joined up and now you want to add the chords in MIDI - i would use markers first to identify the chords, then edit the MIDI in PRV to copy and paste the chord sections (presumably you meant chords and melody) over the bass line.  conversely, you could take and convert the bass samples to MIDI and edit that to match your chords etc.

  2. so, something like a "chord" track to shift chords? e.g. i move the order of the chords from C-F-G-C to F-C-G-C? and the melody notes would follow that change of chord?

or specifically within the chords for something like inversions? e.g. notes in the C chord => C-E-G get first inversion E-G-C or second G-C-E etc

  3. my guess the thump on stop might be when the attack of the instrument is kicked off but the note terminates (either due to it being too short for the instrument to fully articulate the note, or the stop call). with the "standard groove" from EZbass dragged onto the MIDI line, i did not experience the stop thump (or any).  i have experienced "spikes" "transients" "thumps" when doing stops but usually it's drums or pads and sometimes guitars. but not usually the fault of the instrument, more the speed at which i'm operating the transport to stop and restart etc.

  4. thing is - strawberry fields wasn't about pitch correction on a single part, but rather some clever matching to get the two takes - done in different keys and tempos - close enough to become one. but for as long as tape has been around, people have been using variable speed (when available) to adjust performances - like a singer needing a slightly lower key to sing to, and then sped back up etc. it was actually fairly common in pop to speed up material after it was mixed to increase the tempo and key - more excitement and of course fitting into the 2:30 time slot for songs in order to get air play...

  5. maybe you have something set in the preferences which cause the synth to cause this? i just tried this with all the Ample free ones (guitar, bass) and paid ones (2 guitars, 2 bass) i have, and then using my default record template which has a dozen VI (one is Ample U Bass), and not once did hitting play cause the file to go dirty.

I'd love to hear human voices take a try at the song.

i did an electronic version a while back - my vocals. i have a number of really old (1982? 83?) actual live band recordings with some folks who could actually sing but they're buried someone in storage at the moment.

which is what got my friend to contemplate the ballad version ?

  7. thanks! yeah, in the ballad the vocal is a bit high but i was looking for a "soft" instrumental effect. definitely the synthetic vocals are still a work in progress ? i did this as a demo for my friend who was looking to create a new version as a ballad with a female vocalist, and then another friend complained it was too lame. this one being a pink floyd fan, i turned around the next day with the floyd-like version. finally i thought - why not combine them and get them both happy? ?

  8. as a note - to shift the modal response of the room - those dividers will need to be solid / mass in order to  create a change. and if you're looking to shift the shape of the room (e.g. the bookcases), then maybe consider some deep side absorption units which have membranes to force the modal response and provide LF absorption w. appropriate reflection units (e.g. diffusers, panels, etc) to support proper MF/HF balance if the side units don't do it.

  9. the "ballad" part is Natalie on lead + Asterian on the harmony / echo. i tweaked her voice to be soulful and warm, and moved gender to the right about 0.05, to thicken slightly. Asterian - as is. the key was using a lot of tweaks on the notes &  phoneme settings. and each voice does something a bit different.

the second half ("rock" portion) is Kevin on lead and Solaria on harmony / echo / oohs in lead solo section. both pushed the gender to the right to thicken, and a lot of work on Kevin to try and reduce the articulation and theatrical performance. a lot more on the notes & phoneme settings there. a lot of tweaks on phoneme levels and durations.

so it took me about 3 hours to get them tweaked to the level you hear. I think Natalie's voice is one of the more realistic ones. the male vocals ones (including vocaloid products) does not yet rise to the level of realism yet. i think if you can "bury" the male vocal slightly and really tweak, its possible to get a decent version though.

  10. are you using the Kontakt plugin or the Komplete Kontrol as a plugin? i would suggest (if the latter) to switch to the Kontakt plugin, and load your instruments there. then set each MIDI channel on a given track to the channel # on the Kontakt instrument. also assign each instrument to its own output (stereo or L/R) (or blend in Kontakt (harder in my opinion)).

when you insert an instrument in Kontakt, it generally assigns a MIDI channel starting with 1 for the first, 2 for the second etc but you can switch those later when you get comfortable with it.

  11. depends on what you are trying to achieve. if the old analog console inaccuracies are adding something to your mix, then the console emulators + bus emulators (PC or Waves NLS for example) can provide those behaviors. i would go so far as to suggest that a lot of the analog-age console folks (now in the box types) actually prefer the clean and non-anomalous behavior of digital with only some addition of analog console components as needed. ? whereas separate proper preamps units etc are generally desirable for headroom and feel.

  12. also - generally not a good idea to have the audio files syncing to OneDrive while using them ? best to pause OneDrive syncing until you're done, otherwise you may find the OneDrive aggressive file locking tactics cause corruption in your files. i keep my CW files on their own SSD and use a sync app to copy them into the OneDrive and Google Drive spaces when done. eats up some more disk space until i archive a project, but much better performance and no corruption due to file contentions.
