It seems likely this is project-specific or CbB has gotten into a bad state in RAM. If it's reproducible in a new project after restarting CbB, it would help to know the exact sequence of splits and moves. I'm not able to reproduce it in general.

Are you trying to switch projects with the transport running? If so, that seems like asking for trouble. In my experience, the audio engine will enable automatically in the newly focused project within a second of switching when playback is stopped, but there may be some dependency on the audio driver (MOTU in my case). Too avoid any glitches I've gotten in the habit of disabling the engine (by a keybinding) in the currently active project before switching but I sometimes don't bother and have not had any trouble recently. Having more than just the main program window open may complicate things depending on how you're switching projects (i.e. choosing from the Window menu or by Ctrl+Tab or by clicking a visible part of the track view for the other project).

"volume" is not in db and is 0 - 127 and doesnt effect the volume
brundlefly replied to McV13's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Click the Audio tab at the bottom of the Inspector to show audio controls of the Instrument track. -
Looks like the GB is well on it's way to 10 freebies needed to get all 11 new instruments so I'm in now for the princely sum of $35 plus 15 JamPoints. Should have been able to use 16 but for some reason it only allowed 15. I demand to speak with the manager of this corrupt enterprise immediately if not sooner!!!

Notes in Piano Roll View are grayed out
brundlefly replied to Laurence Levin's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Shift+T to expand lanes on the track. Definitely appears you have some earlier muted takes from recording in Comp mode. You can just delete the un-needed lanes if you're happy with the whole of the latest take. -
Notes in Piano Roll View are grayed out
brundlefly replied to Laurence Levin's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Show the Tracks pane via the View menu or dragging the splitter from the right side of the PRV and select the track you want to edit. If you drag across multiple track numbers, the first one you click will be focused and the others will show as gray. There are more options for managing multiple tracks. Definitely an area you will want to review the documentation: https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=4&help=EditingMIDI.03.html -
sending midi to external hardware synths on separate channels
brundlefly replied to plugnz14's topic in Instruments & Effects
Unlike MIDI Input selection, output port and channel are separate widgets. Channel is just labeled C. Here's a link to an image that won't insert inline for some reason: http://static.cakewalk.com/documentation/Cakewalk/EN/images/Playback.24.1.png -
all midi tracks changed to VrtlCntrl0
brundlefly replied to Joel Golden's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Cakewalk is not detecting that the driver for the keyboard (if USB MIDI) or MIDI interface (if the keyboard is connected by a DIN cable) is loaded. Reseat the cable and power-cycle your keyboard/Interface or reboot with it powered up and make sure it's available and selected in MIDI Devices. -
Yes that's possible. it's not clear from the tightly cropped screenshot with only the M:B:T ruler how extreme the zoom level is.

Weird bug or some setting automatically switched on.
brundlefly replied to Will.'s topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I don't understand what you mean by "previous project" here. All I know is that locking a screenset with the VSTi GUI open will cause the behavior you're describing, and I'm not sure what else would. I don't use Workspaces, and my description of how screensets work is based on that. There is interaction between Workspaces and Screensets that can get confusing. Possibly that is contributing to your dilemma. FWIW here's a discussion that covers some of that: -
I can't replicate either the audio lines left hanging outside the clip or bounce failing to honor the new boundary. Was that flatline audio created by slip-editing a clip longer in the first place?
-
It's a little odd that SI Bass is programmed that way, but I would say in general it's a best practice not to overlap notes on the same note number. I've encountered a number of synths over the years that don't handle that well - usually when playing third-party MIDI files as my own are always recorded from a keyboard in real time and a keyboard will never generate overlapping notes on the same note number.
-
That would be standard operating procedure to avoid receiving input from unintended ports, either physical or virtual (e.g. output from a MIDI-generating drum VSTi). This is not a problem if Input Echo is disabled, but if you have Always Echo Current MIDI Track enabled in preferences, every MIDI/Instrument track needs to have an appropriate port/channel selected for Input.

I just figured out yesterday that the TS3.5 Max upgrade I did last week included Syntronik2 with upgrades of the 22 Syntronik1 synths I already had. It was another product, - like Sampletron2 - that was not mentioned in the JRRShop listing. So I will also be jumping in at 10-freebies mark - or before if it looks like the GB needs help getting there before the deadline. I am setting a goal for myself to compose a new piece - or re-render an old one - using at least one patch from each of the 33 synths. This may be a challenge since so much of my stuff from the past few years is solo piano; I may be forced to reach deep into the well of pre-Pro Audio WRK files that used hardware synths in order to find enough material. Apologies to the Songs forum in advance for masterpieces like Boingo.WRK. ;^)

Should have started reading at the bottom. Based on the last paragraph of your opening post, I was going to suggest the issue was exactly what you found - CPU throttling. In addition to setting High Performance in the O/S, you should go into BIOS and disable SpeedStep and C-States if available.
-
Selecting nothing is the same as selecting everything and is the default state when you first open a project.

So if I'm interpreting this correctly... if you have Syntronik1 Deluxe with an upgrade cost of $149 to Syntronik2 MAX and you really want to have it all, the Group Buy has to get to 2400 to equal the upgrade price (i.e. triple-dip the GB to get the last 6 v2 instruments), and 2700 to be a better deal (double-dip the GB to get the last 3 v2 instruments). And if it only gets to 2600, you either end up paying more than the upgrade price to get everything or having to live with the knowledge that some of the synths in your collection aren't upgraded (Horrors!). So the smart way to go depends on how optimistic you are that the GB reaches 2700 participants and how 'retentive' you are about having every synth at v2.

You can add a knob to control any synth parameter in the Synth Rack. It needs to be undocked or docked in the Multidock to display large enough to show the knobs. https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=SoftSynths.13.html I think I may have used the Reverb control in the Inspector once in my life. I'd rather not see more clutter there.

This deal is back. $29. When I was looking at it a month or two ago, it was the full $47 and I passed.

Hearing an FX at an unexpectedly low volume is not the same as "not working". Delays are usually used as Insert FX directly in the track. When sending to an FX, the level of the FX output signal will at best be equal to the level of the source track when the FX is set 100% wet. That would usually be enough for a delay but it's still better to use it as an insert FX and adjust the level of the delayed signal using the Wet/Dry mix. As far as FX Chains go, the chain container itself has input and output level controls. They should default to 0dB but that would be something to check.

Copying only part of a three hour sixteen track cwp file
brundlefly replied to Steven Border's question in Q&A
Select in the timeline and copy-paste to a new, empty project or to a project started from a template saved from the full project if it has track names, routing or plugins you want to preserve from the original project. You can then save to a new folder with Copy All Audio enabled or save the new project in the original folder with Copy All Audio disabled to reference the same audio files. If want to save to a new folder with Copy All Audio, I would recommend executing bounce to clips in the new project first to generate audio files that contain only that section's audio. Alternatively, you could select and delete what you don't want in each case, and Save-As to a new project name with or without bouncing to clips to write new, truncated audio files. I was going to suggest using "Invert Selection" for the latter approach, but it seems Cakewalk still does not have this feature. -
I've had a couple of Lenovo 'Stinkpads' as work computers provided by my employer. Fit, finish and overall feel is crap, but they have taken a beating. My current one has fallen 2-3 feet to a wood floor multiple times and the case (plastic) is cracked but it still runs fine. Both had lousy battery life right out of the box despite having fairly low-spec CPUs and the fan in my current one runs constantly no matter the load. When the first one needed replacing I requested a Dell but when that one was replaced I forgot to insist on another Dell and ended up with another f'ing Lenovo. I don't know how many more times I'm going to have to throw drop this thing to get it replaced. ;^).

MIDI track meters in Cakewalk are always showing output, regardless of arming state. The only way to know for sure whether you're getting input to the track is to try recording. If that works but you don't get a response from the synth while recording, the issue is further downstream - input echo, levels, channels, audio routing, etc. Notes having too short a duration for the attack or range of the synth/patch or simply not having a patch loaded can also be a problem but would not be relevant to TruePianos.

Weird bug or some setting automatically switched on.
brundlefly replied to Will.'s topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
It's not really possible to not use screensets. Some screenset is always active and every change you make to your screen layout is automatically part of whichever screenset is currently active unless you've locked it as Bristol_Jonesey suggested. If you were to lock the screenset while the plugin GUI was open, closing it would only last as long as the session is open, and it would be restored on the next re-open exactly as you describe. -
Best Realtek driver configuration for Cakewalk on laptop
brundlefly replied to Sven's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
You'll need to get WASAPI Exclusive driver mode working. That will let you get down to a 3ms buffer. But I don't have any pointers for making it work if it isn't doing so right out of the box. Unless possibly some VSTi you installed added its own driver for a standalone host that is interfering with WASAPI...?
