  1. Now I wouldn't normally ask anyone here this question -- but you are cc freaking Larry, so that comes with a certain heightened level of expectations for knowledge. So, @cclarry, I'm very interested in picking up Spitfire's Challen (Jingle Box) and Mrs. Mills pianos, part of Spitfire's Original series line of libraries and I was wondering, with Black Friday approaching, if you've ever seen any libraries from this line go on sale? As you can guess, I'm a huge Beatles' fan and love the sound of the gear they used. Thanks, Larry, and thanks for all of your work here. It is, IMO, the Cakewalk Forum Powered By cclarry.
  2. @Steve Madden Has there been any talk of Soundpaint putting out an upright piano in the near future? I'd love to see that.
  3. Okay, I pulled the trigger and bought the Echo Soundworks Loft Piano (directly from the developer's website) -- I found I had an email from Halloween with a code for 31% off, so this was ridiculously cheap. I just went through all the presets, I think there are 20 or so, and this is a nice sounding upright piano with really cool presets. The code is SPOOK21 for an extra 31% bringing the cost of the piano to only $13.11 USD .
  4. I love the sound of the demo. I am a sucker for reverse sounds and love the sound design nature of what I'm hearing. I have one of their libraries and find this developer pretty interesting creatively. I've contemplated their cello library.
  5. I've been checking out two upright piano libraries for KONTAKT on sale, cheap. Both are character pianos. They're not big libraries, but they sound nice in the demos. I searched and didn't find any posts about the LOFT PIANO, so I thought I'd post it here. But I've never bought anything from Echo Soundworks and was hoping someone here owns the Loft Piano and could give their thoughts on it. I have a few Wave Runner libraries and think they're pretty nice. Not detailed libraries, but they have a certain vibe to them and they're inexpensive. It's kind of like how I think of Past to Future libraries. They're not detailed sample libraries, but sometimes they just have a cool vibe. Wave Runner Audio: Cashmere Piano $15 USD Reg $29 "A mid-20th century upright piano recorded with cashmere between the hammers and the strings, captured with Beyerdynamic M160 ribbon microphones through Focusrite ISA pre-amps. Each sample was then run through tape and edited as a new instrument for the Cashmere Piano LoFi patch. A piano with lots of vibe, mood and character with its distinct personality highlighted with the choice of cashmere, warm ribbon mics and transparent pres." https://www.waverunneraudio.com/shop/cashmere-piano/ Echo Soundworks: Loft Piano - Direct for $19USD ($29 at ADSRSounds) The presets are really nice, especially the lo-fi presets, are pretty nice. It's quirky, not some super detailed library. https://www.echosoundworks.com/loft-piano
  6. WUP., there it is. I have probably two dozen Waves effects plugins that date back at least several years but haven't used the WUP . Everything runs fine on my computer, so why bother.

    Majetone

I picked up some of this dev's freebie libraries and really liked them. I have a bunch of glockenspiel sample libraries, but I suppose it's worth checking out. He has probably the most authentic John Bonham :When the Levee Breaks" drum sample library I've heard to date. There are a ton of libraries that try for that sound, but I really haven't heard any even come close to what Majetone did. I think it's called Truck Drums or something close to that. If you're looking for that sound, that's the kit to get.
  8. I just saw Tiger the Frog's Black Friday / November sales thread at VI Control. My strategy should be to avoid that thread at all costs -- because those are a lot of costs when you add them up. Seriously though, my plan is to not spend more than $100 USD on music software related purchases for the rest of the year. I'm sure I'll end up looking back at this post at the end of the month and saying, "Well, the best laid plans...:"
  9. You're really not one of us unless you have too many plugins. I think that's probably 90 percent of the regular deals forum folks. It's like Larry is our Walter White. Unfortunately though, Larry's not making the kind of money Walter made. But on the good side, Larry's is a much more wholesome endeavor.
  10. I did a long time ago by looking at what they were doing with Bandlab on the social media side.
  11. Actually, from your description, you and I are in the same boat. But we can take advantage of this good stuff. Cakewalk is a really good DAW that's regularly updated. So yeah, I think you really meant you wanted to be a rockstar, so maybe there's not much potential for us in that regard, but for great tools for us to enjoy music-making, it's pretty nice, IMO.
  12. I think this is very good and exciting news for everyone cheering for BandLab to succeed -- which certainly includes me -- and it makes clear that BandLab is a healthy company with an aggressive vision and the resources to continue growing. For those who haven't figured out BandLab's strategy and why they give away software that used to cost us hundreds of dollars, they spelled it out in that press release. Think of them as building a platform for musicians/artists, with the objective of driving as many artists as possible for their platforms -- and consequently, as a result of the artists utilizing their platforms --that music consumers / fans are driven to their platforms, and therein lies their plan for revenue -- from music fans and musicians promoting their music. They've combined music production tools with a distribution platform and social media. I think these guys are pretty smart and I'd love to see them succeed. It's the evolution of what was once the record industry and having seen how that industry works, I like the way this one works much better. Yes, promotion still makes a difference, so it's truly never a democracy, but it's much closer than the record label industry driven model that was bad news for most artists.
  13. As long as I'm on a tangent, I kind of am finding Galaxy Instruments is my new favorite piano sample developer. I fell in love with Noire and think those guys are brilliant with piano libraries.
  14. I do, but thanks for taking the time out to share them, that's very thoughtful of you. I think I bought one library from the Fluffy Audio developer and he seems really talented. If that upright goes on sale, I may pick it up. I'm not totally sure. It doesn't immediately grab me, but I may find myself coming back later. I kind of liked a demo I heard of the e-Instruments upright piano: https://e-instruments.com/instruments/pianos/session-keys-upright/
  15. Oops., I meant to start with that point that they're two different models! As far as the people using that library, I'm friends with Greg and when he first released it, I was saying how it reminded me of certain songs where that was pretty much an iconic sound and the first artist whose name I connected that sound to, Greg says, "I just helped him install it yesterday!" So yeah, that is the ultimate Rhodes library, IMO. And everything from Orange Tree Samples is meticulously sampled and scripted -- the scripting on their libraries is really amazing -- and that is part of Greg's genius. I know from other developers that he's seen as a master. So for those who want the be all end all Rhodes library, I think there's no question that Famous E is it and I'm still enjoying the presets (there are a lot of them). So considering I have Famous E, I have some Rhodes electric pianos from maybe ten other developers, what caused me to still look at this? I was hoping that Troel's and team would have some really creative sound design patches -- and maybe he has -- but the demos don't convey that. My expectation from the Steinway is that they would get more into creative sound design possibilities, and that really interests me. So, as this library seems to be a straight Rhodes, which sounds really nice, and if I didn't already have a great collection of Rhodes sample libraries, I would jump on this for $20 USD.
  16. I have a couple of their electric pianos, but from the video, this doesn't sound that great to my ears. Maybe I'm wrong. I really like their Eletrix for that John Paul Jones Zeppelin kind of sound. But this effect, at least in the YouTube video, just leaves me cold.
  17. Well, Famous E surely has a lot more depth. While I really liked the free piano in Soundpaint, one thing is for sure, Troel's greatly oversold it. It isn't a fantastically detailed piano as he pitched it in the pre-sale hype video. But, from my point of view, it's really all about what you're going to use it for. If detail isn't that big of a deal to you and you have $20 USD to spare and love the tone, I would say, why not? I've bought a bunch of Past to Future libraries, realizing they don't have the kind of detail I sometimes want. But if I'm doing a song where the tone works and I don't need a very detailed sample library, I'm going to use it. What I'm hoping they release soon is a good sounding upright. Piano is my first instrument, and I fell in love with Yamaha grands early on, and we had a baby grand and then an upright at our house, but for some reason, I'm a total sucker for an upright with some character to it. I really like the patches for the free piano that comes with Soundpaint, if they can do something cool with an upright piano, my credit card is available.
  18. I have so many Rhodes -- and especially the Famous E -- I don't see myself picking this up. But for those who don't have the same collection, this seems like $20 well spent. But beyond that, @Simeon Amburgey, wow! Your playing on this video is awesome! Holy cow! This is why, as the son of a (late) music teacher and pro musician who could play Chopin with ease and also played pretty well on our Wurly electric piano back in the day (and we owned a Leslie speaker!), when I load up an electric piano and play, I feel very inadequate knowing how amazing people like you and others play. Anyhow, that was a treat.
  19. No giant deal, it's just that people trolling KONTAKT threads to complain that they have to purchase KONTAKT to use a library (that is, it doesn't work with KONTAKT Player) is common place and it's self-centered, I don't give a crap about the community, I just enjoy complaining, type posts. It's the antithesis of what makes a good member of an online community. Yes, the full version of KONTAKT enables a user to play any KONTAKT library. The Player version requires a third-party developer to invest thousands in licensing fees, otherwise, a developer can create and distribute a free or paid library useable in the paid version of KONTAKT for no cost. There is a wealth of high quality commercial sample developers that create sample libraries. Of course, NI, the makers of KONTAKT want compensation for their software, so they monetize it through both the initial sale of the sampler and licensing for libraries that use KONTAKT Player. In the instance of the free bell that this thread is about requires that full version.
  20. The patches that SoundIron made for this are really nice. Some sound very celeste-like and others are very lush synth sounds combined with the bell. As far as people trolling KONTAKT library threads to complain about needing KONTAKT, I really think we need to ban it. It's toxic and serves no purpose other than wasting everyone's time -- including the angry person who posted the comment. If you don't own KONTAKT, please don't post in a thread for a library that requires the full version of KONTAKT to rant about the library needing KONTAKT -- as it doesn't help you and is pointless. No, no one needs to explain to you why you should buy KONTAKT. Instead of trolling a thread to complain about a plugin needed for a free library, why not do something more productive? We could all spend our lives complaining about things we don't like, can't afford, or think can be improved, but when your comments aren't productive, when they're outright negative/toxic -- they have no real purpose beyond providing the poster with an outlet to express their anger. But why not be more considerate of others and just move on? There's nothing you're adding to the conversation and there are a great deal of options that exist beyond KONTAKT. There are free plugins for tons of synths, for sample players like SampleTank, various SFZ players, Labs, Orchestra Tools, HALION Sonic LE -- even the free version of KOMPLETE is pretty cool. For those of us who did invest in KONTAKT -- the group this thread was actually created for -- we greatly appreciate a developer giving away a nice small library like this one and appreciate the person who made the thread --okay, at this forum, that person is usually Larry -- letting us know about the free library. If you didn't make the investment in KONTAKT -- for whatever reason (maybe it's too expensive, understood; I know what it's like to be broke; maybe you prefer another sampler....) -- instead of wasting your and everyone else's time endlessly venting, just find a threat that is relevant to you. instead of complaining ad nauseam about software you don't own.
  21. I think most of us who spend time here are in the same camp. Sample and plugin hoarders. BTW, when that fella was posting his requests, it just hit me, I haven't said thank you in a little while. Thanks, @cclarry , I know I'm not alone when I say that I'm grateful for all of your work. This is pretty much the Larry forum! You keep us up to date and informed. I know, I can be lousy at checking my emails and would miss time limited offers if not for your posts.
  22. While the title sounds completely meh, this library sounds pretty nice.
  23. I realize you're just joking -- or are you??? -- but I actually had that thought when I first saw this offer. So I checked. But still, it tells you that we buy so much in this group, we sometimes lose track of what we already have and that's a common occurrence here based on posts.

    Request

Can we just add requests to this thread? If so, I'd like a tall latte. Seriously, no offense to the original poster, but step back. If you're not paying people, it's over the top to demand people do the basic product research we all can easily do for ourselves. If you want an assistant, hire an assistant. But you're going to have to pay that assistant to work for you. Otherwise, just click on a link for the product you find of interest and take a few minutes to read. It's really not all that hard to do for yourself instead of expecting others to do it for you.
  25. Not to be harsh, but that copy, "A FUTURISTIC PLUGIN WITH REVOLUTIONARY SOUNDS," "push the boundaries of synthesis" and "marvelous futuristic-looking user interface" --- seriously? Did someone grab a time machine, because it looks like that copy was written in the 50s. All they need to add is, "amazing space age technology" and some really awkward made up names like "featuring our exclusive supertronalistic technology!" Also, I listened t to the demos. SPOILER: It's not even remotely revolutionary, it sounds like it's from twenty years ago. Has anyone heard of that dev before? I admit, I saw the word "Tron" and clicked. I love trons. This isn't a tron, but appears to be a rompler with some effects. Space age effects, of course.
