  1. Wow, both your playing and the horns sound excellent.
  2. Thanks so much, I really appreciate it. I would think that some might say me singing itself is a crime! But I think you're right that the song would really benefit from background vocals. I think I will eventually come back to this song when I track down the original recording and add the bridge and background vocals. While I spent 12 years as a semi professional drummer, I only played in established working bands where I replaced the original drummer and was never able to get my own music performed. So until last year, only several people, including three musicians in a band I formed in the mid 90s that never made it to the recording studio or stage , have ever heard any of the music I have written, so sharing my songs publicly for the first time was a bold step for me, and I felt potentially embarrassed because I can no longer play very well and my voice is obviously not very good -- but I think my songwriting was/is pretty good. So I really appreciate the encouragement. I thank you and everyone who left a comment. It has really exceeded my expectations.
  3. I'm certain that is what it refers to. Of course, while every sample library developer knows this stuff, most sample users don't.
  4. Great point. Two thousand samples per note does sound like ridiculous overkill. It also sounds like after one instance of the library you're going to need to freeze that track.
  5. Thanks for sharing that. I recently saw someone post a deal from these guys in a Facebook group I'm in and never bought any of their libraries and was wondering if they were worth checking into.
  6. Wait, just to be clear, I went through those legal checkboxes on their site pretty quickly. I wasn't completely clear on whether I was turning over my first born male child, or both of my kids, as well as my soul, for eternity. I think it was just the first born male child along with my soul. But I only had one legal class in college, so I would appreciate if someone with expertise in this area could weigh in so I could better understand what I've gotten myself into in my quest for free sample libraries.
  7. Yeah, years ago, I had a call with Troels, where he was looking for some branding and marketing advice, and we really hit it off. I enjoyed talking to him and, I don't enjoy writing anything negative about any developer's products. I'm a paying customer and I was doing him a favor by giving him an hour of free consulting just because I appreciate small sample developers and I always want to be sincere in stating my views as honestly as possible and, in that spirit... I have found that 8Dio's string libraries are, across the board, little more than bloated, poorly scripted collections of large dumps of articulations with poor/minimal scripting. The only 8Dio libraries I will consider buying anymore are libraries are cheap ones, like the ones from SoundPaint that don't require sophisticated scripting, like say, a piano library. And the poor quality of 8Dio's scripting has been well known among musicians and sample developers-- and I heard that before some of the purchases I made and regret not listening to advice in that regard. A big reason why I share my insights on sample libraries with others on this forum and ask questions about developers and libraries I haven't purchased-- I really don't want to waste more money on libraries that don't feature intuitive scripting,. Around the holidays, a musician friend of mine strongly recommended I stop buying 8Dio string libraries and try one of Fluffy Audio's string libraries instead, as they were on sale. I posted some questions here and Reid wrote some positive comments about Fluffy's string libraries. So I bought their viola library and love it. The scripting is intuitive-- it's a joy to play and makes me regret every 8Dio string purchase I've ever made. A nearly complete waste of money and I hope sharing my insights might save others from making the same mistake. Something influencers shilling products with faux reviews don't do. So I feel it's important for us to do, share our honest experiences about libraries and plugins.
  8. @Reid Rosefelt. I wasn't sure how detailed the library is. I have 8Dio's Deep Cello and Intimate Strings and find they're just a huge dump of articulations without intuitive KONTAKT scripting. How intuitive would you say the scripting on this is?
  9. I've bought a bunch of Past To Future Reverbs libraries over the years and posted positive things about them here, but some of their libraries really should come with caveats, as they clearly appear to violate international copyright laws. Past to Future Reverbs actually state that they sample some libraries from popular old vinyl albums, which of course, is sampling copyrighted performances and is not something you want to do or use in your music productions, especially if you ever plan to release any music commercially. But the ethics of this alone are problematic.
  10. That's a really good point. After you posted, I checked the developer's website and even downloaded the PDF manual for the library and there was no info on layers or round robins. Maybe Simeon knows?
  11. Thanks @Simeon Amburgey. I watched a little of your video and agree with your observations that there is something special about this library, at least based on hearing the demos and hearing your playing the library. I don't recall noticing this developer before, but he seems really creative and worth checking into. I've long had a great appreciation for small, talented , creative developers and this one has gotten my attention.
  12. It's the first time I've heard of the developer. The demos sound pretty nice to my ears.
  13. What made Reid's thread -- this thread -- special and what the folks negatively complaining don't appreciate, is the camaraderie, kindness and support shown in this thread. Reid has long shown himself to be a very helpful part of this community. This is post mortem analysis, because this thread was attacked and is now completely derailed, as was the attacker's intent -- as he recently did on a thread for a small developer out of Poland aiding relief efforts in Ukraine. One could point to the persistent forum rulebreaking, the infusion of politics regurgitating the propaganda of a brutal murderous dictator the complainer in chief in this thread has done in this forum -- the level of hypocrisy is ridiculous and I've never reported his policy breaking posts even once. Just as he destroyed another thread helping victims in Ukraine, he effectively derailed and ended this thread. I think, in the end, after decades of leading, consulting and writing about social media, that kind of behavior is toxic to an online community and, in the case of this thread, it attacked a kind spot in this community all because of one overly controlling hypocrite who doesn't care the least about complying with forum rules when he's promoting propaganda for a brutal dictator. Just as we many of us have morally given Larry support and encouragement when he goes on tangents and shares his personal/financial struggles, the best of a community is revealed in how we support others, as was exemplified in this thread. In any event, yeah, this is a deals forum, but this community is made up of people and I think people supporting one another is still a beautiful thing and a great part of this community. It's what has kept me coming back since the earliest days of the original forum.
  14. I befriended and visited Ben, the owner of Camel Audio, in Scotland, but haven't caught up with him in a number of years. Did Apple close them up? Ben's actually a great guy and a talented musician and developer, BTW. I hung out with him in Edenburgh on business more than a decade ago and he took me to this nightclub where they were playing one of his songs and it was really good.
  15. This is why I don't trust credit card info with small websites that can't even manage their website to handle predictable spikes, and, for example., use a content delivery network any small e-commerce site can easily afford. How much more so are they going to protect your private data. Check how many times they've been hacked and exposed personal data in the past few years (from Google reports). It's not pretty. I do buy from them every so often, but only using PayPal. EDIT: Their server just went down and there was a statement from Cloudflare, so they do use a content delivery network, but clearly are not paying for an appropriate plan, because this happens every time they have a decent freebie -- without fail, their website fails and also, I have seen their name in websites that have had their customer databases recently compromised -- that's at least happened two or three times in the past several years.
  16. I'd suggest that if a moderator is considering locking this thread that the moderator instead move it to the appropriate forum. In any event, @Reid Rosefelt, now that we have someone making repeated complaints on your thread, I think it would be a good idea to be proactive and start a similar thread in the appropriate subforum and link to it here ASAP so that link is here in case the thread is locked and people still want to keep up with what you're doing. I know I will follow it and I'm sure that I'm not alone (as once this thread is locked, you will not be able to make new posts or edit existing posts).
  17. Cakewalk forum has its official Karen. I'm just sayin. A Putin loving Karen. #TeamTiger #TeamUkraine (Just in case anyone's not clear where I stand.)
  18. In the words of Todd Rundgren, "Light of the world shine on me, WUP is the answer."
  19. Okay, I'm going to make this thread about Madrona -- Madrona Labs, because it almost sounds like Madonna, right? And you can use your Madrona Labs gear to play covers of Madonna songs. And Madrona (Labs) has deals every so often. In fact, here's a link to a sale they had at the end of last year. So yeah, I fixed it for you. You can change the thread title to "Doesn't Madrona sound like Madonna? What's the Deal? " Problem solved and our little complaining friend can go back to paraphrasing Putin's propaganda referring to Jews as Nazis in the deals forum -- which I'm pretty confident violates forum policy -- as he did the other day when he was upset over a developer helping Ukranians. https://madronalabs.com/topics/8515-thank-you-sale-2021?locale=us
  20. Reid made one thread here because Reid historically has been a very important part of this forum. Yes, technically it's not a deal post, but the deal forum is where a bunch of us know (and love) Reid. If it really bothers you, you can simply just ignore it.
  21. How sad is this, this thread reminded me that maybe around Black Friday, I bought a library from this developer, downloaded it and proceeded to completely forget about it until this thread. Clearly, I'm the problem, but I'm going to blame Larry, who I view as my friend who takes me shopping until I blow all of my money. Thanks, Larry. On the positive side, at least I didn't buy the same library twice, right?
  22. Beyond making sure you've done everything you can to optimize the videos for search, you can always find online groups for fans of these movies, 80s movies, Madonna, etc and let them know about the videos to create awareness. To be clear, I'm absolutely not suggesting spamming, but finding relevant places where people care about this type of content gather -- think of them as the alphas -- and let them know that you created videos they will appreciate. I just want you to succeed and think you've really done a good job with your videos. You're a really good storyteller and your rhythm is excellent in your latest video.
  23. Ben's a really talented musician and creative thinker. Thankfully this pretty inexpensive. But I do have a hard time deciding between which of his libraries to pick up-- as I try to keep myself on a limited budget and if I spend time watching his demo videos, I want everything! The String Flow series really is inspiring and while I'm a sucker for solo string libraries, there's especially something about the deepness/richness of the cello that really moves me.
  24. Does anyone here have their software and use it without their controller? I am contemplating picking up their cello vst but would love to get some input before pulling the trigger. It doesn't say if it's VST3 or VST2, so I'm guessing it's the latter. The audio demo is less than half a minute, so I'd love to know or hear more. I'm in love with the sound of the cello. That's basically my motivation.
