What is odd that in the SONAR Platinum days, the default bit rate was 128kpbs, but it's now 256 kbps, so there's seemingly a way for SONAR/CbB to tell the encode what to use...

64 bit applications (and dll's like VSTs) should absolutely not be creating folders in Program Files on running (it's part of the "64 bit Windows spec") - 32 bit VSTs may well do because they were written in an age when this was OK to do. Are these 32 bit VSTs by any chance? If so, better to move just them out of the Program Files folder into somewhere safe.

Many years ago, I had the pleasure of doing a recording session (in my spare room!) with Hawkwind's original guitarist, Huw Lloyd-Langton, doing a cover of one of his tracks. He brought his guitar and I just plugged him into a first generation POD Pro, picked an amp and speakers almost at random, and he sounded near identical to how he did on the original recording... I've now managed to get a sound very, very similar using a TH-U amp model/effects chain that is nothing like the gear he would have used in the mid-80s. So I now completely ignore what gear was used!

Not sure about this: there are pros and cons. Pro is you can potentially scale up and down as business needs change (monthly/annual fees); downside is you can't capitalise which affects (Uk at least) how much tax you pay. Where I've worked for >20 years now (3 CFOs in that time so not just one person's approach), the goal has *always* been to buy so it can be capitalised - every last little thing that can be capitalised is (even down to staff time on capital projects). We're gritting our teeth with a new system being implemented over the next few years as it has to be cloud-based, and that investment can't be capitalised (as per HMRC rules). The difference in tax liability is very significant.

Lower the volume on buses/tracks with automation on them

So why not just leave it in Offset mode (like I do)? If there's an envelope, then by definition, there's an envelope so you can see the change with time and what its value is by holding shift while hovering, and the value in the track widgets reflects the offset. It's only a handful of CbB parameters that are affected by offset mode (volume, pan, send level and send pan). -
