  1. This model is fair if "updates" means "new features", but what about bug corrections? if someone paid for a software with lifetime use, at least bug corrections should be available for free with no time limits. I'm afraid there will be no such thing as "permanently unlocked" and "you own it" nor even lifetime use the way we would like to see it. The 6 months authorization period is embedded in Cakewalk's code since at least Sonar Platinum if not earlier. They'll still hold the plug and ultimately they will decide anytime if they want to pull it out or not, we're depending on their grace and I don't even expect it to change in a slight way, period. Ever since CbB has started with this sort of lock scheme I had the feelings something is going in the background, even in a post I compared the 6-months authorization to a (free) subscription when I got bashed in the head by many, only now it occurred to me that after 5 years of some sort of an intermission period they now can go back to the previous scheme of business. To me it seems clear now that was probably the hidden plan since beginning. A free software with 6-months authorization, oh come on! How many times you can step into the same river? Once in my life I decided to make an exception and took a risk when buying into lifetime updates, LOL! And I even wasn't aware of the 6-months lock scheme at that moment. We know, it's just a wording. Example: I bought a keyboard and I can still use it even after the company has gone, I can use it until it's broken. With the licensing, what we would expect is to hold the right to use a paid software anytime (even after end of a company), not just 'rent' the right to use it until the company changes rules. Hold rights to use, not own the software, we get that. For now with Cakewalk it's: renew your right to use it every 6-months, it's not "permanently", "owned" not even lifetime in it's original meaning (life of the company), in fact it's: util we pull the plug out. To me it's like false marketing, it's more like 'rent' and I never want to pay for that. I would want my software, that I hold rights to use indefinitely after I've bought it, to be able to install and run even after the company is gone provided all factors such as hardware and OS are intact. We're not getting it at all since some earlier versions of Cakewalk, think it's X2 or X1, we're only 'renting' it so long they allow us (have you experienced it going demo mode? I had, when there was some server error). Thankfully they keep it live so far. The software may get "broken" by OS updates or change in hardware, or incompatibility with new plugins. Here's where we need the updates, that is fixes (apart from new features), free or paid depending on the company's chosen scheme. Lifetime updates should then grant you at least free updates (fixes) for the rest of life of the company. As simple as that.
  2. How is the new license scheme from Cubase v12 on in practice, is it fine? I keep my Cubase 11 on soft elicenser and didn't switch to v12 even though I'm eligible. Decided to wait and see if this new licensing system is ok or something wrong with it.
  3. So much for "Cakewalk will now be always free" I guess
  4. It showed up in my account under 'not registered' just fine (I asked grandma to wait a little, though ) but it won't show up at all in my v1 NI Access even thought I manually registered in NA, and now it currently sits under 'registered products' in the account. Same for Hypha.
  5. So here I am couple weeks later. Decided to go the trial route and so ended up choosing both cause they both do add two different flavours of the same magic to the sound (you know, like deeper depth, wider width and most specifically sweeter sweetness...) trying to be as much technical in my terms as possible here ?.
  6. I hate when they do this crap move, I remember Microsoft did that with XP or Win7! Is there a way to manually download the second last version?
  7. Sounds sweet but I'll wait for a good sale on singles... (I like to hoard them one by one ?)
  8. Changelog updated: 3.1.12 - Fix some crashes with Logic Pro in Rosetta Mode - Fix Windows issue with Filechooser dialog
  9. Yes, that's exactly what I do and way too often mainly because I still forget about the perfectly usable forum search. Silly me! ? But more seriously it's mostly about future compatibility with any upcoming updates. I'm really glad that you at least tried to request that. Apparently I missed any threads and posts about it! See, my initial enthusiasm has come from not understanding the mechanisms behind the ways of how it's working in VST3. Now it's clear to me why I failed with my own tests ?. Oh yeah I like that best! If there is an citizens' initiative form or a letter of intent I'll gladly fill in and sign ?
  10. Ok I did experiment a bit.. deleting the presets from disk doesn't stop them from showing up in their VST3 plugin preset manager so they must be read from somewhere else. The 'PresetPath' string is empty in their registry. Think this is getting too big for me, at this point I'm clueless . Guess that's the only way as for now for me too. Only if there will be any updates to the presets in future, I would have to know first when it happens and then update the SSP files each time. Too much of a headache.
  11. Eryk, but that could potentially lead to some trouble in future. Say I will re-install or migrate Windows in a few years and forget about all this, I'll end up with no vst3 presets wondering what I did couple years ago to make them work. Wish there would be a simpler solution like pointing to the correct path on disk, but don't know how. For now I see at least 3 different locations. For example Opticon XLA-3 presets are in 'Documents\VST3 Presets\Plugin Alliance' and they don't show up as most if not all from this path, and there are most of them (50). Lindell PEX-500 presets are in both 'AppData\Roaming\VST3 Presets\Plugin Alliance' and 'C:\VST3 Presets\Plugin Alliance' and they do show up in Cakewalk so they are read from one of these places I guess. But... in 'AppData\Roaming\VST3 Presets\Plugin Alliance' there are also presets for Lindell TE-100 and NEOLD BIG AL, Lindell presets do show up in Cakewalk but BIG AL are not... what gives?? I would prefer to read the original preset files from a correct path on disk as that's the manufacturer's 'proprietary' preset system, if I update a plugin and it's presets will get updated too, I want Cakewalk to read the updated presets from their original location. Doubt the '.SPP' way would do it.
  12. (...) Once someone has bashed all of the PA (or other company's) .vstpresets into the Cakewalk system... Thanks for heads up. This got me thinking. I wonder whether it's actually necessary to "bash" all PA vst3 presets into Cakewalk first, to make them work. So far I found these paths with VST presets on my system: Documents\VST3 Presets\Plugin Alliance AppData\Roaming\VST3 Presets\Plugin Alliance ProgramData\VST3 Presets [no plugin alliance presets there] C:\VST3 Presets\Plugin Alliance also many places with individual plugin or company presets like AppData\Roaming\UnfilteredAudio some of these presets do load automatically in VST3's preset manager in Cakewalk here, some won't, I wonder if there's maybe an incorrect path somewhere in registry or what makes them work or not? Thought I'll ask before starting experimenting with copying all these presets between all different places on disk or editing registry
  13. Thanks. Yeah, they are back now... not even rough idea what happened??
  14. I don't see any Unfiltered Audio plugins, anyone getting this?
  15. that's how it's invisible small print: check if it didn't install into a different path than expected, many small developers do a mess with their installers, just a thought but that's quite common thing, I'll check it later too and will post back if I find anything wrong...
  16. always love their walkthroughs
  17. I sorted out the issue by acquiring purple audio's 1176 from PA on '2 for $49' sale and making use of my $25 voucher... effectively getting it for about $12,50 not a bad deal I'd say
  18. Looking for a free $75 voucher, sadly I've already used my $25 one so can't trade
  19. Code not valid for me anyway. Oh well, so much for a deal ?
  20. I've used QuadCurve EQ to tame resonances in a rough recording and it did a splendid job.
