  1. set snap to grid to 'move to' and something like one beat or one measure, now drag clip's right edge to where you need leaving snap settings at smart grid should also work
  2. no, it should play the same... (and I edited my post to correct the last bit) how do you copy the clip, ctrl+drag?
  3. Cakelab is grouping entered notes into clips in a somehow arbitrary way i.e. if you enter new note in prv that is away from the nearest clips it will create a new clip. If you move the note in pvr closer to other notes afterwards, in track view the clip is moved closer to other clip. It takes a bit time to break it down and then working with clips will get easy. You can right-click and drag a lasso over the two clips and click 'bounce clips', it's non-destructive. the clips in your graphics are midi clips - if you drag it onto another midi track make sure that track is configured properly (connected to the synth), if you drag it onto an audio track it won't play - you would need to render midi to audio first.

    Boz NAMM Deals

I was lucky to get it free while it was being introduced ?

    Demo mode. Why?

another vote for offline option, though I understand it needs a bunch of work, but it's like essential for some really
  6. You do have to use that online bandlab thing if you want to run the latest cakewalk because that's how you download and authorize it. That being said I think we are safe to assume that you're good to run your 8.5 for decades on if it suits your needs well. It's major advantage is that you will be able to install and authorize it offline each and every time you would need or want, unlike the new online bandlab thing that needs to be re-authorized online every 6 months or so. Mind you that there's another bandlab's online thingy, an online daw that is something different from cakewalk, and I suppose abacab was trying to point it out, but I had to re-read his post couple times myself to get his point
  7. You can easily keep settings, like program and control change, and the actual music in separate clips and then shuffle clips between projects by copy/paste or drag'n'drop. The other way is to keep your synth settings in separate clips on different tracks and use archive/un-archive track.
  8. I believe this script works without any dialog box and this is what he wanted - immediate effect after pressing the key. Workflows, workflows...
  9. that would qualify for a brilliant feature request, me thinks
  10. 3. select the notes to modify then use Nudge (up/down) 4. use process Find/Change to select notes and modify, here you can enter a precise amount
  11. If all the most important CAL functions like legato, undupe, thin controller, split notes/chan to tracks and possibly few more, were added to process midi menu then I guess there would be not much of use for CAL anymore. But I could be wrong.
  12. But then, seeing smooth transition of the waveform from clip to clip is much helpful.
  13. And don't forget that between 0-100% you've got 99 variations. Sometimes quantizing by 20% will do great job.
  14. Tedious stuff. I was given hundreds of live recorded piano covers midi files to process them and make ready to print as score sheets for third party score software. I had to manually separate left and right hand, clean, quantize, undupe, make legato etc. CAL, interpolate and multitrack prv were my best friends
  15. ^^ this is what I do. You may also try if archiving tracks could work for you. I didn't check it.
  16. Actually your comment sounds very promising. Also no such thing like time pressure here. Last months I'm mostly spending time with 2 frolic toddlers, it will take much time before I decide for next job. And yeah, I work mainly with MIDI so having such randomizing tool is immense. In the meantime I'll check out Frank's plugins, TenCrazy I know already. Didn't know Azslow has a mfx but I can't do scripting anyway, small adjustments to CALs is all I was able to achieve in that regard. I have plans to buy icon Platform m+ and connect it to Azslow surface though, trying to make it work also with prochannel and vst/vsti if possible. Hopefully that will take only heavy setting up and not programming, unless we could work out something new in future. Thanks for your suggestions.
  17. Oh, I had no idea. I thought dna grooves in cakewalk (.grv) are the same thing. Wow. Right, didn't take that into account. To make thing even more enjoyable, I came up with that idea to include option to process also CC messages. Here's the idea, say you have midi track with solo instrument melody full of continuous controllers (modulation, expression etc) and you want to make an ensemble. You can duplicate track and then slightly randomize controllers data, in addition to notes. I tried to do it with the quantize plugin that came with cakewalk but it won't allow me to process CC data, only notes, unless I'm missing something. I realize I'm crossing the lane already ?
  18. Forgot to add I use PM for troubleshooting sometimes. Didn't even get to make own layouts yet, that was planned after I upgrade my hardware to 64bit and move on to Bandlab's Cake.
  19. This looks lovely! I have a feature suggestion. Would be great if I could open DNA groove banks (.grv) or extract groove from midi/audio transients beats to the memory and make some 'humanizing' around that groove with this tool. If there's no such possibility in Cakewalk already (maybe I'm missing it somehow) than that would be something for consideration, if it's not asking too much. I know one can do it in few steps but doing some slight randomization aroung grooves in one go and audition the results in realtime while adjusting could be golden.
  20. Some software install, idk how to call it, filters maybe, probably in dx plugin form. They can show up in Cakewalk and can easily crash it. I use plugin manager to exclude them. I prefer to use plugin manager for that over poking in the registry manually.
  21. CALs saved me impossible to count hours of manual work in prv.
  22. How about a dedicated window where we could in a bit more visual way set the connections and routings in CakeLab? Where the tracks outputs go, etc. Could be either in form of a matrix (like the Pin Connection Management in Mixbus) or patchbay or more modular style (for example like in MUX if at all possible)? Something that would make all the routing in cakelab ably (<-a word found through google translator).
  23. I get your point. I had Iphone once and could stand it for 2 weeks and then gave it for my kids. For home use I absolutely prefer windows but still would go with macbook+garageband combo for live use nonetheless ?. If only not the OS upgrades... Back to the review, I think it's clear he made it in rush so it's understandable in some places the score is clearly too low. Enough to mention Remote Collaboration "0" or Software Updates "0", it's ridiculous. In my own review Cakewalk would have significantly more points. The more I'm impressed how quick and on point he was in finding the flaws, I particularly appreciate his versatile point of view, good job. Just imagine how good Cakewalk can become with most the issues fixed.
