Simple BBC SO Discover Template
Promidi replied to Patrick Wichrowski's topic in Instruments & Effects
I just tried it here and it worked fine. This is with Cakewalk by Bandlab 2023.09 Build 62. I copied the BBCSO Discover.cwt to my Projects Templates folder as defined in Preferences - File - Folder Locations > Templates Enabled the start screen (I do not have this enabled for my day to day). Closed and reopened CbB. The “New” section indeed showed the correct image for the BBCSO Discover template. I think the asterisk doesn't appear in the title bar to show that the file has been edited is probably because the same image is already in the template and technically, and file has not changed. -
Simple BBC SO Discover Template

What have you tried so far? What driver mode, sample rate, bit depth and buffer size are you using. Are you using a proper audio interface that comes with its own native ASIO drivers (not ones that are actually wrappers like ASIO4ALL). If you have antivirus software, have you excluded all Cakewalk folders. Have you decrapified your New PC - many new PCs have unnecessary software installed by the vendor that can (and should) be removed. Can it be assumed that you have performed all Windows update and updated all of your hardware drivers? (Use manufacturer’s website for this - Don’t use Windows Update). If relevent for your CPU, have you disabled Core Parking - also set CPU min and max to 100% in power settings. In fact, disable any power saving measure you can find. Just because it’s a new PC, don’t assume this has been done. Personally, I think it's either a driver issue or sample rate issue. Others more experienced that I am will likely chime in with better suggestions.

If you have fresh installed Cakewalk by Bandlab 2023.09 Build 62, then the full installer will be in the %userprofile%\Downloads\Cakewalk folder. The exact name is Cakewalk_by_BandLab_Setup_29.09.0.062.exe and the exact size is 589,145,424 bytes Also, I hope your guess is wrong about that price - seems a it bit high (especially with the way the Aussie dollar is going).

$US29.00 for me. Does need a dark mode. The GUI is way too bright! (Like the Augmented Series)

And if you must still use them, even MP3 files can be encoded at 48khz.

Which is why I have told Windows Updates to keep its hand off the drivers. See: https://www.techilife.com/exclude-drivers-from-windows-quality-updates/

While I do not use my MIDI controller as a control surface, I have seen other posts that seem to indicate that any MIDI port that is use for your control surface should not be used as a MIDI track’s input MIDI port. Some MIDI controllers even have two MIDI ports - one that can be used for a control surface and the other as a MIDI track’s input MIDI port. I know my PCR-800 does. You might want to go a head and post this question as a separate post.

When I said controller, I actually meant the Continuous Controller MIDI Events (CCs) in the MIDI track that is being routed to your VSTis. I use a single external MIDI playback device that is multitimbral. Each part responds to its own MIDI channel. Each MIDI track that is routed to this external MIDI playback device is set to a spefici MIDI channel. Even when I am using VSTi synths, I still set each MIDI track that is routed to said VSTi to a specific MIDI channel - especially if the VSTi is multitimbral (like Sampletank or UVI Workstation for example). I try to avoid using “none” and I definitely avoid using OMNI anywhere.

Yes, that’s the setting I use. When I start playback after a note start but before its end, the chase function searches back to play that note. For me, this works for VSTis as well as outboard gear. Maybe some VSTis need time to initialise before playing a note Are you using lot's of controllers? Are there some where many controllers are happening at the same time?
-
I just duplicated a SIT (Simple Instrument Track) and the synth was also duplicated - ie a duplicate instance of the synth was created in the synth rack.
-
Are both “MIDI Event Chase on Play” and “Include Note Events” selected?
-
Form the electronic keyboard, do you wish to record the MIDI performance or the actual audio?

If you are worried about the 250 mb space the core Cakewalk program files take, then it’s time to upgrade your system drive.

Is this a MIDI track with lots of CC, (or more rarely, even RPN or NRPN) events?- 5 replies

I am not seeing anything on there that would be sending when the unit is not being touched. Are the CC messages being sent to CbB the same as what any of the sliders are programmed to send when moved? As mentioned, maybe the sliders need a bit of a clean.

What is the exact model of your “four fader midi controller”?
