UVI Workstation won't work in Cakewalk
Canopus replied to Ellsworth Hall's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I did report it to UVI in March 2019 when I experienced this exact problem using their then latest soundbank Key Suite Acoustic. Back then I still used Windows 7 and being away from home at the time and not having Cubase or Studio One installed on my laptop, I had nothing to compare with. Although their support was very helpful, our joint conclusion at the time was that it probably was a Windows 7 issue and as UVI hadn’t officially supported Windows 7 for quite some time the support ticket was eventually closed. Unfortunately, I experience the same behaviour in Windows 10. Only in CbB though, not in Cubase or Studio One. Although this is a bit strange, I don’t doubt that you’re correct when stating that this kind of problem lies solely on the VST manufacturer. So maybe I should raise another ticket at UVI, this time stating that it also occurs in Windows 10. -
UVI Workstation won't work in Cakewalk
Canopus replied to Ellsworth Hall's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Great that you’ve got it working. FWIW, I have never had any sound related problems using UVI Workstation or UVI Falcon in CbB. This however I can confirm. Cakewalk seems to have some issues with UVI Workstation which sometimes makes the GUI of the currently loaded soundbank unresponsive in some respects, most often when clicking on page navigation buttons such as those in your left-hand menu. Using the latest version of CbB under Windows 10, I have tested the same version of Workstation and the same soundbanks in both Cubase 9.5 and Studio One 3.5 and none of them seems to have this problem. This makes me believe that it is indeed a bug related to CbB. This issue has also previously been reported on this forum, e.g here. I might add that there’s a workaround for this particular bug: if you click one of the EDIT, EFFECTS or ARP tabs at the top of the Workstation GUI, the lack of GUI response when trying to switch pages in a soundbank seems to disappear. Well, at least until you open it next time. -
I think I understand what's happened. You probably clicked on the small icon shown immediately left of the track name. You must expand the track's height so that the large track icon becomes visible. That's the only one that can be changed, and by right-clicking on the large icon you will get a pop-up menu with the "Load Track Icon…" menu option.
-
You right-click on the default track icon and select Load Track Icon… from the pop-up menu. Then you navigate to Cakewalk Content > Cakewalk Core > Track Icons and select whatever icon you find appropriate for your track. And of course, you can make your own icons as well- Just make them 96x96 pixels and preferably save them as png files. That way you will get transparency.

Make no mistake, this movie is all about true super heroes on a quest to create the ultimate DAW. Thanks for your dedicated work.

It’s fantastic that UVI offer a free upgrade from Falcon 1 to Falcon 2. I bought UVI Falcon almost four years ago. I’ve seen all Dan Worrall’s YouTube tutorials a couple of times and I’ve also seen the Groove3 tutorial UVI Falcon Explained. Maybe it would have been wise for me to sit down and properly learn Falcon 1 before Falcon 2 came along and added even more stuff I don’t have the faintest idea how to use.

As you know Cakewalk by BandLab is a Windows only application. Running it on a Mac through Parallels Desktop might work, but there’s certainly no guarantee coming from Cakewalk that it does. Have you upgraded to macOS 10.15 Catalina? And if so, are you running the latest version of Parallels Desktop that supports it (version 15)? Even so, there seems to be a long list of known issues that has yet to be addressed in an upcoming release.

A somewhat boring but natural question: have you tried Mercury? That’s one of the two themes supplied with Cakewalk, but it’s no longer the default theme so depending on how far your Cakewalk history stretches back you may have missed it. It’s bright and has fairly good contrast (and as an added bonus also looks really good). The potential visual problems I can see are mostly grey text in some of the modules of the Control Bar (such as the Tools module) but it would only be one or two hour’s work to make that text brighter using the Theme Editor if that were to be a problem. If you haven't tried it, just go to Edit > Preferences > Customization > Themes and select Mercury from the Themes drop-down.

Um, I’m not sure. Just let me watch that video one more time before I answer.

Ez drummer 2 not following host when recording audio
Canopus replied to ron murphy's topic in Instruments & Effects
I sometimes wonder how you manage to work so tirelessly. It’s Saturday, now go take a cold beer or something. -
Here ya go: https://s3.amazonaws.com/uvi/Release_Notes/digital-synsations_changelog.pdf The update is pretty underwhelming though: "[FIX] Wrong tuning in 'The Funky Poly' preset". Also, the latest version seems to be 1.4.4.

Is that the version where they don’t even let you download the plug-in?

Both the Gran Vista Black & Blue and Carbon themes have now been updated to support GUI modifications in CbB 2019.09, i.e. the addition of an Auto Crossfade button in Track View. Additionally, the colour of Selection Markers (a.k.a. ”That new green selection bar thing”) has also been modified in order to give better contrast against the timeline. The previous dark gray colour has now been changed to green, same as in Tungsten. In addition to increased contrast, this will also give better conformity with the end user documentation. However, if you don't like that change, do let me know; I'm not totally convinced myself so if enough numbers ask me to go back to dark gray, I might consider doing so. As always, download the modified themes from the links supplied in the OP. You will also find a link to a newly added release history pdf there.

What’s the best way to ask a question?
Canopus replied to Jesse Jost's topic in Frequently Asked Questions
The term “ghost channel” isn’t used in Cakewalk so you won’t find any reference to that in the documentation. However, I assume that you mean the possibility to see notes in MIDI tracks other than the one that is currently selected in the Piano Roll View (PRV). If so, read up on working with multiple tracks in the Piano Roll View using the following link: https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=EditingMIDI.10.html And you should actually have created your own thread instead of using this one. -
According to their press release, until October 22, 2019.

So $25 unlocks Pinnacle Studio 23 Ultimate? Not bad at all. Deals from Humble Bundle normally gives you a program version that has already been superseded, but Pinnacle Studio 23 was released only a month ago. I'm currently running Pinnacle Studio 19 Ultimate and the upgrade price for me would normally have been around $75. As I normally upgrade every third or fourth version this Humble Bundle came pretty timely. Of course I bought it. Thanks Corel.

Yup, I know. I was more thinking of sellers like this: https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=524581 As it’s a new license the normal iLok transfer fee doesn’t apply, so $25 is money straight down into his pocket. I feel sorry for anyone who doesn’t know that Digital Synsations is a regular freebie and thinks $25 is a bargain.
-
Although Windows 7 is no longer officially supported by UVI you can still use UVI Workstation on that OS. While still running Windows 7 I sometimes in the end noticed some unresponsiveness trying to navigate to some instrument’s own Settings and Effects pages, but that was normally possible to circumvent by first clicking on the EDIT, EFFECTS or ARP tab at the top of the Workstation GUI.
-
It’s comforting that some things just never change. Must be the fourth or fifth time that UVI gives Digital Synsations away for free. And once in a blue moon you can still see optimists over at KVR trying to sell it for $25 or $30.

For the Staff View and Piano Roll View to be enabled in the main menu, you need to have a MIDI track in your project. For the Step Sequencer menu option to be enabled, you need to have a MIDI track selected.

I’ve had Nomad Factory MAGMA for a few years but had actually written it off as impossible to use (at least in SONAR) because of frequent crashes during preset changes. After any such crash SONAR completely froze up. I’ve also seen problems being reported at Plugivery and KVR saying MAGMA was crashing Reaper, Studio One and FL Studio, so SONAR wasn’t the only one. However, this thread reminded me of MAGMA and made me put this effects rack into CbB to see if the crashes still occurred. In fact, I was certain that they would. But to my surprise it didn’t crash one single time although I must have changed preset at least fifty times. It might be a coincidence, it might be changes done internally to CbB, or it might be because I now run under Windows 10 instead of Windows 7. But the fact remains – I could no longer get MAGMA to crash, at least in my simple bare-bones test project. Ok, so MAGMA v. 1.6.6 still has some problems with CbB: the Play and Pause buttons in the Transport module don’t update when MAGMA is active, the Tempo display doesn’t update to tempo changes and there are probably some additional display issues that I haven’t noticed. But more importantly: the effects were applied and the plug-in did not crash and bring the DAW down with it. Maybe a bit OT, but I thought maybe someone else with the same bad experience of MAGMA would like to know and test it out for themselves.
