It's better to only put the plugin .dll files in the VST folder. Less for the Cakewalk VST scanner to deal with. Any other stuff like preset folders and sample folders related to the plugin should be installed elsewhere. The best scenario is if the plugin has an installer that asks you for the paths you want to install them to. In general, it's fairly common to end up with a plugin .dll itself in your main VST folder, plus the plugin presets somewhere either in your documents, program files, or program data folder, and the samples in a folder on a separate drive where you store all of your sample libraries. But the plugin has to know where that all is, so it's best not to go moving things around after the install, unless you are sure the plugin can find them. You can always keep it simple and drop everything in various folders on your system drive if you don't have other options, but that can fill the drive up quickly if you have a lot of samples, and slow your system performance down.

Do they make those for 1/4" TRS cables?
-
And another possibility I have considered is that the powered monitors are picking up the computer noise via their AC power lines.

Agree that it needs memory and disk streaming improvements. The plugin itself takes up about 2.1GB empty on my system. Then loading an instrument with full keyswitch articulations takes way too long. Where is the disk streaming?

Correlation Trace with Dimension Pro presets
abacab replied to RexRed's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Dimension Pro is no longer a supported product, and therefore is not ever likely to have any adjustments made to the factory presets. -
I have Cakewalk setup so that if I open a "new" project via keyboard shortcut (ctrl+n), it always loads a default .cwt project template that has bus assignments. You can select your default template in the "New Project" tab in the Cakewalk start screen. Your Cakewalk preferences "File > Folder Locations" specifies where Cakewalk should look for your template files. You can make any adjustments that you wish to a blank project (or start with any template) and either save that as a new template, or overwrite one of the existing ones. Use "File > Save As" and select "Template" as type, then select "Template Files" as the Go to Folder", and hit "Save". Just do this once, and then you won't have to go adding or changing stuff every time you open a "new" project. Huge time saver!

I have something like that and I believe I have it tracked down to the analog cable path from my audio interface outputs to my studio monitors. I should probably be using balanced cables there. Either that or the monitors are picking up the EMI directly. The noise I hear appears to coincide only with moments of heavy disk drive usage. If I disconnect my monitors, I cannot hear the noise using my headphones in the audio coming directly from my audio interface phones jack. And there is no audible sound coming directly from the computer. In my case that pretty much eliminates ambient noise emanating directly from the PC, or noise in the digital audio signal path.

Using Garritan Instant Orchestra in Cakewalk
abacab replied to Jennifer Clarke's topic in Instruments & Effects
Probably start with this video tutorial, then substitute Garritan for the synth used in this example. 19. MIDI Synths - 13:03 The full video series playlist is here: -
That's probably one of the main reasons I plan to keep it around! Studio One can't do that sh*t!!!

Last Minutes: 100% off Memory-V by IK Multimedia - FREE Download!

Well it was designed for players, rather than sound designers. It is not intended to be a fully modeled emulation of a vintage synth. Arturia , possibly a few others have already done that. The sound is very good and playable. The samples came from the real things, and the guy in charge of the sampling was an original designer of the Andromeda hardware synth. Plus there is still quite a bit of flexibility in the Syntronik filters, modulations, and FX, if you want to make a sound "yours". If you look through the preset notes in the browser, there are presets with "raw" oscillators (saw, pulse, etc.) that you can use for your own sound design, but the only way to get to them is to load a preset. There is just no selector in the edit screen to access them directly. It's a limitation of the SampleTank engine, apparently. And did I already mention that it sounds good? -

ST3 free will support the Syntronik content. They upgraded all versions to 3.7.x to make them compatible. Don't bother getting too excited about the oscillator editing though, as it is very limited, in that you cannot actually select any oscillators. What they did was give users access to the oscillator functions that are presented in the Syntronik user interface. But the new effects and modeled filters are a good upgrade to the ST3 engine. Although it's mostly about the filters, envelopes, and LFO's for editing synth sounds. While you are at it grab a copy of the 3.7 PDF user manual for details... -
Bad latency, but worse with ASIO than with MME32
abacab replied to Matt R's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I run Sonar Platinum on an old laptop (not my DAW) using the on-board RealTek audio chip for playback of virtual instruments. I am running Windows 10 on it with the free ASIO4ALL, with very little latency. I'm not set up for recording audio with it, but with a compact keyboard and headphones, it makes an OK traveling companion to play some virtual instruments on. If I was actually going to use the laptop as a DAW though, I would at least invest in something like a small Focusrite Scarlett USB audio interface. https://focusrite.com/usb-audio-interface/scarlett/scarlett-2i2 -

Syntronik instruments work in SampleTank 3. The advantage to that is you can create 16 part multis in ST3, and combine Syntronik instruments with SampleTank and Miroslav instruments, for example. Make sure that you are running the latest version of SsmpleTank 3 v3.7.3, as IK did some updates to the ST3 engine for the Syntronik library in ST3 v3.7.0, such as: New Channel Strip effect New Ensemble effect Added Oscillator editing on the Edit page Added 6 new analog modeled filters (C-Type low pass, R-Type low pass, O-Type low pass, high pass, band pass and notch) Improved resonance response on M Ladder filters Added Overdrive parameter for all filter types General reliability improvements -

The built-in content blocking in Firefox should work if set to block trackers. Else give Privacy Badger extension a shot. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/privacy-badger17/ Or other common ad blocker extensions like uBlock Origin or Adblock should do it: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/ https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/ These extensions are also available for Chrome in the Chrome store: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/privacy-badger/pkehgijcmpdhfbdbbnkijodmdjhbjlgp?hl=en-US https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ublock-origin/cjpalhdlnbpafiamejdnhcphjbkeiagm?hl=en https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/adblock-plus-free-ad-bloc/cfhdojbkjhnklbpkdaibdccddilifddb?hl=en-US Or Edge: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/ublock-origin/9nblggh444l4?activetab=pivot:overviewtab https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/adblock-plus-free-ad-blocker/9nblggh4r9nz?activetab=pivot:overviewtab -

Seeing forum ads in MS Edge and Google Chrome on Windows 10, as well as Chrome on Android. Adding the free Privacy Badger extension to Chrome on Windows seems to stop them. Plug and play, no configuration, stops trackers. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/privacy-badger/pkehgijcmpdhfbdbbnkijodmdjhbjlgp?hl=en-US I have the built-in tracker blocking enabled in Firefox, so I wasn't seeing ads there.

Loads of ads, but nothing intrusive using Google Chrome on Android. Nothing using Firefox on Windows 10. Ad free! Under browser privacy options in Firefox. I have been using the custom setting to block trackers in all windows. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/content-blocking -
I think Komplete Start would be ideal for new NI users. Probably not much new there to risk existing full installations.

Always match all memory sticks.

With sampler instruments you need to do 4 things. Install the VST Install the sample library Tell the VST where the sample library is Tell the DAW to scan for new VST plugins
-
If it didn't find the paths you installed the content in, you will need to add them in settings.
-
The OP hasn't followed up yet, so this thread so far is just general advice for anybody reading it with the same question.
-
Install ST4 content to a new path. Keep your existing ST3 content. No need to install any ST3 content again, but is available for download if you need it. ST4 allows for multiple content paths. ST3 and ST4 can be installed side by side. If you see a lock symbol on content you should have access to, open a support ticket.

Also be aware that MIDI compatibility and DAW integration are two different things. Any MIDI controller will be compatible with standard MIDI messages for playing notes, or sending MIDI CC messages for expression and modulation. In most cases you can also use MIDI learn in a generic way manually with virtual instruments and some DAWs, subject to availability in the software. Hardware keyboard integration with a DAW is less common because it requires a partnership between the two companies. There have been attempts at control surface standards, but in practice that hasn't always made perfect! But the basic MIDI standards have been around for decades, and still work well. The only drawback with generic MIDI is that you will not get automatic plug and play setup for keyboard control mapping that a fully integrated setup could potentially provide.
