  1. Great demo! Those pianos and EPs really come alive! I wish I could play them as well as you do!
  2. My understanding of Win10's "refresh your PC" is that it only retains your user documents, and not the applications, which would then need to be re-installed. I really liked the old Win XP "in place repair", which saved my bacon on a few occasions! https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/16397-repair-install-windows-10-place-upgrade.html "In Windows 10, this feature no longer preserves user-acquired Windows apps."
  3. This is puzzling because booting from a recovery disc is handled entirely by the machine's BIOS, prior to the Windows boot loader being involved. The Windows 10 update couldn't affect the BIOS.
  4. OK. If you had been paying attention, the videos were first posted on a YouTube channel that had nothing directly to do with this forum. Yes, the subject was Cakewalk by Bandlab, but posting videos on YouTube is free speech, in case you were wondering. Then the video links were posted in this forum by a 3rd party. So the video creator caught hell for allegedly posting his "rants" here. I think there have been a few assumptions made about the video creator that are based on misdirected finger pointing.
  5. When a social media experiment goes "viral", it get attention!
  6. My wheels... ...just kidding! But I did have a set of these wheels a few years back during a stay in the hospital. All better now! I'm old, but not that old! Ha! But due to cclenny's deals, I may need to switch back to these when my current car wears out!
  7. I am currently using two monitors with the integrated Intel HD graphics, one using HDMI, and the other with DVI. No problem with shared system memory, and no lag ever in display response for 2D purposes. In the Passmark Performance Test "2D Graphics Mark", my Intel HD scores in the 46% percentile. Not too bad for a 7 year old, 3rd gen Intel Core i3 system. It totally sucks at 3D, but that's not what I use it for. The raw score was 521 vs. the world average of 588. 2D Graphics Mark includes: simple vectors, complex vectors, fonts and text, Windows interface, image filters, image rendering, and Direct 2D. https://www.passmark.com/products/pt.htm
  8. Is 32MB even enough to run a modern Windows GUI on? And do they make one with a PCIe interface?
  9. Just be aware that the Surge plugin UI zoom feature doesn't work correctly in Cakewalk. It works correctly in Reaper and many others. UI zoom was also noted as a problem in FL Studio and Tracktion. The Surge dev said something about some hosts not dealing with the plugin resize messages correctly. But they also mentioned that none of the current dev team is "Windows first" . They primarily develop on Mac and Linux.
  10. If you like z3ta+, or Z3TA+2, then check out Surge Synthesizer. The subtractive hybrid classic has been released as free and open source, and is being actively developed. You can do some really cool wave mangulating in it. https://surge-synthesizer.github.io/
  11. I can only imagine! Guess that why some folks refer to it as "EuroCrack"!!! At this point, I am still heeding the advice in the getting started guide: https://vcvrack.com/manual/QuickStart.html "At this point, you are ready to learn the rest of the Fundamental modules to build your own unique patches. I personally recommend that you attempt to push the Fundamental modules to their limits before moving on to other official or third-party plugins. They are more capable than they might appear, and learning how to use them effectively will give you more power and understanding when installing more modules later."
  12. It's apparently still a stand alone app, "Is VCV Rack available as a VST/AU/AAX plugin for DAWs? Not at this time. Shortly after Rack 2.0 releases, Rack will also be available as a 64-bit VST2 plugin for around $99. VST3/AU/AAX versions might be released afterwards. All Rack v2 plugins will be compatible with the plugin version of Rack. The primary “standalone” version of Rack v2 will continue to be free/open-source" https://vcvrack.com/manual/FAQ.html "However, VCV Bridge allows audio, MIDI, DAW transport, and DAW clocks to be transferred between Rack and your DAW through the included VST/AU instrument/effect Bridge plugins." https://vcvrack.com/manual/Bridge.html
  13. I downloaded VCV Rack recently. That is an interesting intro to the modular world!
  14. Blocks Primes are for use with Reaktor 6 Player: https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/synths/blocks-primes/
  15. And here's a few other fun toys, some are even freebies! Cableguys PanCake2 [free] https://www.cableguys.com/pancake.html Glitchmachines Fracture & Hysteresis [free] https://glitchmachines.com/ Melda MSpectralDelay $99 https://www.meldaproduction.com/MSpectralDelay NI Phasis (part of the NI Mod Pack $69, but was a time limited freebie) https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/effects/effects-series-mod-pack/ Soundspot Nebula $39 https://www.pluginboutique.com/product/2-Effects/10-Delay/3867-Nebula Surreal Machines Diffuse $49 https://www.surrealmachines.com/product/dub-machines-vstau/ ValhallaFreqEcho [free] https://valhalladsp.com/shop/delay/valhalla-freq-echo/ I think MSpectral Delay, Nebula, and Diffuse are probably my favorites after Blackhole and ObjeqDelay. And don't run out and buy any of those just yet! I got all of them for free at some point, by paying attention to cclarry's Deals! Well, all but Blackhole and ObjeqDelay, but I still got great deals on those two! Thanks @cclarry
  16. Meng has already stated that Cakewalk will always be free.
  17. Yep, I was going to post some cultural factoids, until I realized that this ain't the coffee house! Probably some fun off-topic banter to be had with this subject!
  18. Yes, enjoy the new interface, it's miles beyond the old one! And since they actually included the ST3 engine in ST4, the old ST3 library formats are 100% compatible as is, including Syntronik and Philharmonik. So legacy content should play exactly as it did in ST3. There are 2 different edit pages now, depending on whether the part is in ST3 or ST4 format. There are additional modulation controls and mod matrix available and enhancements to the element structure for the new stuff.
  19. Agree on the over-abundance of synth presets. They do seem a bit of over-kill! I have noticed that the majority of the factory ST4 multis are combinations of these synths. I changed my mind at the last minute, and ordered the MAX version instead of the standard. I think it was a good call, as it ended up being only about $35 more for me, with the included maximum jam points discount of 30% off ($199 minus 30% vs. $149 minus 30%). Even with the full MAX version, you will still want to keep your ST3 library handy, as the ST4 library does not replace all of the instruments that ST3 has. It is more of an enhancement to the collection. What ST4 MAX does add is very good, but is actually limited in the variety of instruments.
