  1. Well, in general, moving folders around can result in mayhem, unless you are careful to set symbolic links in the original location. https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/16226/complete-guide-to-symbolic-links-symlinks-on-windows-or-linux/
  2. It seems that some features were implemented back in the day, but never improved upon. Maybe the term "unfinished" applies here. Like the Matrix for sure, and probably the staff view! I agree that if the Cakewalk devs just revisited one feature at a time and gave it the love it deserved, Cakewalk would be an overall awesome package. I think the core is just fine, especially with all the bug fixes and enhancements to the core program that have been made in the past couple of years. But there does still seem to be a few features that got bolted on over the years that never matured to the competency level of the core feature set. I think that this type of attention could move Cakewalk up the scale from competent, to excellent!
  3. I hate to be the guy to say this, but I cannot reproduce this here. Unfortunately with some complex synths, their installation routines contain more than just a .dll file for the plugin. So more opportunity for things to get messed up in folders or in the registry. Sorry for your troubles!
  4. I would vote for: NI Kontakt 6 Player Free with 16 channels, 16 parts (free with limited free factory library, but with access to purchase additional "Powered by Kontakt" libraries from NI). AIR Xpand!2 with 2500+ sounds, with 4 channels, 4 parts. Currently $14.99 at Plugin Boutique, but various deals can be found. Followed by SampleTank 4 SE starting at $149 with 30 GB of samples and 2000 sounds and 16 channels, 16 parts. Upgrade to full Kontakt 6 starts at $399 unless you have a crossgrade eligible product, so that is not as budget friendly. More factory sounds, and access to a number of free or discounted 3rd party libraries.
  5. The Rapture expansion packs include some amazing sounds!!!
  6. Oh, forgot to mention that AIR Transfuser also installs a "TransfuserFX" plugin version. With that you can insert it in a audio track FX bin. Then assign the audio in with the THRU-SEQ and use the various onboard Transfuser effects modules to mangle the input audio signal. Not really a synth but there are filter, LFO, and envelope modulations available, in addition to stock time based effects, etc. Fun to experiment with!
  7. That would be useful. However I believe in the case of Cakewalk, it is a fundamental DAW signal flow design limitation. Cakewalk has a strict track definition model for audio, instruments, and MIDI. And the signal flow for track inputs and outputs is explicit for each type of track. Cakewalk in general does not have a capability to allow audio signals to be routed to instrument plugins (in contrast to fx plugins), even if the instrument provides for an audio input. There may be a few hacks possible by putting an instrument in an FX bin of an audio track, but I have not had much luck with that method. I first ran into this issue when I tried using the TX16Wx sampler to live sample an audio input in Cakewalk. No success. The TX16Wx dev says it is strictly a DAW limitation. But it easily works fine in Reaper, with its "one size fits all" universal track definitions and flexible signal routing scheme.
  8. However Z3TA+2 did not, as it is VSTi only. The original z3ta+ could be an fx insert because it was also supplied as a separate VST fx plugin. "c:\program files\Cakewalk\vstplugins\z3ta+\z3ta+_fx2.dll". The VSTi version was not capable of that. Surge Synth is only supplied as an instrument plugin [VST, AU, LV2]. EDIT: I did run across this article outlining some ways to use surge as an effect by feeding audio to it via sidechain. Unfortunately this is only compatible with a few DAWs [Ableton, Ardour/Harrison, Cubase Pro, Logic X, Reaper], but Cakewalk is not one of them. https://github.com/surge-synthesizer/surge-synthesizer.github.io/wiki/Using-Surge-as-an-effect-(and-vocoder) If you are interested in that feature you may want to take a look at SynthMaster 2 or SynthMaster One. They each ship with an effect plugin version.
  9. It's a good sounding synth, as is the original z3ta+. But there also a lot of great options out there. As an alternative, I would point out the free, open source, version of Vember Audio Surge. https://surge-synthesizer.github.io/ It's actively supported and with ongoing development on github.
  10. I think that 1.1.3 is the latest. If you have that version installed it's probably safe to ignore any further update prompts. At least until UVI updates it again to fix the update loop ...
  11. Good tip, thanks! I have had my eye on that one for a while at $49, but that discount made me pull the trigger! A no brainer! Here is a video of a guy producing a symphonic metal track with Hyperion Strings!

    SAD NEWS!!!

I saw them live in the 70's, then again 20 years later in the 90's. A couple of the most memorable live rock shows that I have ever seen. The drum solo set that Neil performed during the latter show blew me away completely. Incomparable! Legendary! R.I.P. Neil!
  13. And if you don't have Kontakt, an alternative to free Kontakt libraries is to use the free sfz format Virtual Playing Orchestra library for the Plogue sforzando player (the player is from the creators of the Aria player used by Garritan): http://virtualplaying.com/virtual-playing-orchestra/ "This is a full, free orchestral sample library featuring section and solo instruments for woodwinds, brass, strings and percussion." "Virtual Playing Orchestra is a free orchestral sample library, in sfz format, that attempts to emulate multiple articulations of the solo and section instruments from a full orchestra using the best free samples from Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra, No Budget Orchestra, VSCO2 Community Edition, University of Iowa, Philharmonia Orchestra and extra free samples from Mattias Westlund, author of Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra." https://www.plogue.com/products/sforzando.html The main drawback to sforzando is that it's not multi-timbral, so you may need to insert multiple instances of the plugin to achieve what you need.
  14. Back in the 80's I used to have a wall full of binders on shelves with printed tech manuals. A couple of the volumes were indexes on where to locate specific topics in the bazillion pages of content. They occasionally shipped a full refresh that filled up a cargo pallet with boxes. The vendor used to send us updates in a method similar to the one Jim described. Then one day, along came a cool new invention called the "CD-ROM". The vendor discontinued the printed version and supplied everything on CD. Having a search engine made it much more productive to find only what you needed, and not wasting time cross referencing from a printed index. This was life changing for us on the job! I realize that the Cakewalk manual is not that big, but I still prefer using a search engine in a PDF file to reading a printed manual. Just call me an old dog that prefers the new tricks!
  15. I agree that is a great idea. I miss the area that was provided in the old forum for that. Computers, and Windows are complicated beasts, but the computer audio requirements are a specific subset of Windows usage, and deserve their own sub-forum for discussion.
  16. No big deal, really. But anytime you quote somebody in a forum, and then make a statement regarding that quote, or by adding corrections, etc., you are "calling them out" (i.e. calling attention to their post). The quoted individual then respectfully deserves an opportunity to clarify their statement. However, no offense taken. Didn't intend for the phrase "calling out" to be negative, just that it sometimes begs a response. Nave a nice day!
  17. The manual is available as a free download in PDF format for offline viewing.
  18. Plus +1 for Scheps and Abbey Road, and the instruments (for example Element 2 and Flow Motion). Minus -1 for small GUI. Minus -0.5 for single computer license. Would prefer iLok with 2 activations.
  19. You are probably correct, but since you called me out, I will clarify that my comment made in October about DXi hosts was actually a bit off topic and irrelevant, and was just an offhand remark. Listing DXi hosts not being a materially important fact related to a thread pertaining to the discussion of TTS-1 performance in Cakewalk.. So I stand corrected in that regard. It was incomplete. The OP had asked if TTS-1 was DXi or VST, or both, and if 32-bit vs 64-bit. I believe the answer supplied was sufficient at the time.
  20. Maybe check out the utility called "ProjectScope" that was written by a Sonar user to examine some details about a .cwp project file. As is, no support freeware. It still works on the latest version of Windows 10 and the latest version of .cwp files saved by CbB. Lists the project notes, tracks & type, plugins, and wav files used by the project. Not a programmer's tool, but a simple look inside a Cakewalk project for the user by scrolling through a folder rather than having to open the project files in CbB. The projectscope.exe download is available here: https://www.adamczyk.com/miscellaneous-files
  21. Install & activation process proceeded normally without any delay ( only reverb) just now. Nice 'un!
  22. More precisely "free" at EveryPlugin. The $1 deal is at Waves.com.
  23. Now that's deal! According to the Waves site is today only, Dec 17th! The Waves sale on instruments is $29, plus with the EP discount is even less. Nice two fer!
