TTS-1 Works In Old Projects But Crashes New Ones.
abacab replied to mdiemer's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
There is a TTS-1.dll in the "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared DXi\" folder, but pwal is correct, it's not a VST. -
Haven't been using it, but had it installed for several years. Took a look and realized I only had 2.5.0, so thanks for the heads-up with 2.5.1! Running latest version of Win10 Pro 1909. No problem adding target vst folder here.

I don't have any specific knowledge of track properties, "hidden" or otherwise. And I have never seen this happen before. Just commenting that your observations were indicating that might be a good place to look. I would shoot an email to support if you think it's worthwhile for the devs to look into it, as is maybe a case of a subtle change in one of the recent Cakewalk updates: support@cakewalk.com

Korg Legacy Collection - Triton question on included sounds
abacab replied to Robert Bone's topic in Instruments & Effects
I got the impression from the Korg website that the VSTi is based on the original Triton. https://www.korg.com/us/products/software/korg_collection/triton.php Including eight-part multi-timbre combis, abundant PCM samples, five IFX, and two MFX, the KORG Collection TRITON is a complete reproduction of TRITON’s HI (Hyper Integrated) synthesis system. Supervised by original TRITON developers Over 4,000 ready-to-go sound programs Includes all of the expansion library EXB-PCM cards Features a new sound browser for quickly searching by instrument/character Includes an EASY mode that gives you instant access to important parameters Full of ready-to-go phrases with 307 dual arpeggiator patterns A free demo version is also available -
Well the only clue that I see is that by deleting the track properties of the original track you have cleared the issue. That implies that something in the original track properties was causing your issue. Glad you got it solved, but am curious, how exactly did you create the original track?

I would start with the Cakewalk by BandLab included Cakewalk Studio Instruments, and/or the included TTS-1 GM 16 channel multi-timbral synth, to get familiar with adding instrument tracks to the DAW. The Cakewalk SI includes a usable (some folks like them) bass guitar, electric piano, string section, and drum kit. The TTS-1 includes sounds that cover the old General MIDI spec. This thread has pretty much covered it! You can see there are a lot of free or inexpensive virtual instruments that you can add (to roll your own collection). But the caveat is that you're not likely not find an extensive collection of *high quality* band, orchestral, and/or obscure instruments all in one place for free. You will have to search and download to find what you like, or buy sample collections to fill in any gaps.

Thanks for pointing out the Melodyne requirement. Although I do have Melodyne Essential installed, always just assumed that was a function of ARA support built into Cakewalk, because I never saw Melodyne launch during the clip drag to timeline.
-
I believe that the tempo map is supposed to work that way for an audio clip that was not recorded to the grid, or to a click track.

I'd start with adding your computer and audio interface specs. And any additional info about your Cakewalk and system configuration that could help someone to reproduce this issue.

Features request : Instruments assign to a MIDI port
abacab replied to Cédric Lawde's topic in Feedback Loop
I do not believe this is the case. As I said before, there are other DAWs that that do not lose their MIDI devices. Ableton being one example. -
In the OP NAMM video, Woody talks about Tracktion being aimed directly at musicians and the creative production process. They deliberately don't add features for the professional engineer, and are not trying to compete with other DAWs, which could clutter up the experience of making music fun, easy, & creative. Although it doesn't even resemble PreSonus Studio One Pro 4, those are some features available there. S1 has had an arranger track for some time, and just added chord track in the v4. I was wondering if Tracktion would ever get around to including audio in the chord track like S1, because they already had ARA support and included a license for the basic version of Melodyne since Waveform 8. I think that Waveform may offer computer based musicians a nice starting point for the creative process, then by stemming things out to a serious DAW for mixing & mastering you could take it as far as you wish.

Features request : Instruments assign to a MIDI port
abacab replied to Cédric Lawde's topic in Feedback Loop
I really like the idea of restoring MIDI devices being automatic. For example, just this weekend I was vacuuming out my PC and doing a bit of fan maintenance. In doing so I unplugged my USB MIDI controller (not actually even a synth). When I put everything back together again, I plugged the MIDI controller into a different USB port. The next time I started Cakewalk the MIDI device was not enabled. I had to go into settings and re-check the box to enable it. Funny thing is that a couple of my other DAWs found the MIDI controller on the new port automatically. This is not really a big deal, but it does get old. I believe it stems from the same underlying issue that Cedric has raised. -
Tracktion Universe 2020

I started with version 8 because of the MIDI pattern generator tool, and then stopped at version 9. I looked at 10, but didn't see any "must-have" new features. However, v11 looks interesting with the new arranger track, and the improved chord track that now controls both audio and MIDI. Previously it was MIDI only. And the new chord companion looks useful too. FYI, starting with this new release, Waveform Free will be based on the same code base as Waveform 11 (Pro), rather than an older version. Haven't seen any feature comparisons yet to see what the free version includes.

Not quite clear regarding why you would want to record multiple instrument parts (bass, cello, etc.) on the same MIDI track? Your question implies that you are using a multi-timbral virtual instrument. In that case you could easily assign each part (bass, cello, etc) to it's own MIDI channel and track, which would keep them all completely separated. In any case, the link to the recording modes above should be useful for recording multiple takes of the same instrument part.

Since the confirmation emails can no longer be sent, it is a manual task for support to make changes now. I have heard of positive results from this type of request.

As I mentioned earlier, there may be loopholes in the OEM policy. YMMV still applies. I was just publishing the MS official word on the subject.

And also try creating a new project to test VIP with. If VIP inserts OK for you in a new project, but still fails to open in an existing project that contains an instance of VIP, you probably should contact support. That would indicate that the plugin is probably installed correctly on your system [as you previously mentioned it working in other DAWs], but now for some reason the old Cakewalk project may be having difficulty recognizing it. support@cakewalk.com

VIP 3.1.1 only appears as a VST2 on my system. I can load (insert) it into CbB 2020.1 without issues. Also used the new Cakewalk "insert with instrument track per output" feature successfully. I would double check the VST scan paths in Cakewalk, and maybe try a reset in VST settings.

How to tell if your Windows 10 license type is OEM, Retail, or Volume https://www.windowscentral.com/how-determine-if-license-oem-retail-volume-windows-10
-
Have you actually done this with an OEM license? You are only supposed to be able to re-activate an OEM digital license (MS account) on the same machine. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-windows_install/microsoft-os-retail-vs-oem/3b074bf1-58e3-4675-8706-b9206d5a97a1

I doubt that the purchased version will be spam free until you either disable or remove all of the "extras". It's the same build of Windows 10 either way. One advantage to purchasing a full retail version license (not OEM) is that you can move easily the license to a new machine that you build. OEM licenses are supposed to remain locked to the original computer they were installed on. Though not a big deal if you plan to buy your next computer someday with Win 10 pre-installed (although there are probably a few "loopholes" in the OEM license, I am only intending to state the official MS position on the issue).

How do I provide feedback about this community itself?
abacab replied to Jesse Jost's topic in Frequently Asked Questions
I'm not aware of one. This forum is provided by BandLab as a continuation of the former Cakewalk desktop DAW forum, that was acquired from Gibson after the Cakewalk company was shut down in 2017. The "how-to" and troubleshooting needs/concerns are probably quite different. I would contact support@bandlab.com with any issues. Or download Cakewalk by BandLab and jump in here! Lots of resources and experienced users are available in this forum if you wish to learn about using a DAW! https://www.bandlab.com/products/cakewalk
