  1. The closest that Cakewalk apparently came was a few years ago, before Gibson bailed out, when the developer of Overture had made a proposal to provide a scoring solution for Cakewalk, based on his application. It could have been a thing, but management decided not to go that direction. So I believe that there is some weight to notation being viewed as a low priority. But then as we all know now, there were apparently some serious financial issues within Gibson/Cakewalk at the time, so maybe it was lost in the shuffle. There is a discussion somewhere on the old Cakewalk Forum about this, around the time of the great shutdown. But we Sonar users were offered a very nice crossgrade offer from Overture during our dark times.
  2. Yes but that doesn't switch it on in the VST instrument's internal options. Another step that is required.
  3. The guidelines scook posted are regarding the Cakewalk setup. You will still need to check the options in the instrument itself, as in my first pic above. One example is the Ample Sound instruments. MIDI output is internally off by default. May likely vary by developer. I don't think there is a standard, and many instruments don't even offer that feature. But it is quite useful if an instrument has an internal arpeggiator, sequencer, or a riffer. ?
  4. First, the source VST must be capable of MIDI out. Cakewalk can allow MIDI out from a VST, but only if the VST supports it. Here is an example using Kontakt Player, which is capable: Step 1. Enable MIDI out from the VST settings. Step 2. Enable MIDI out in the Cakewalk Plugin window VST options pull down menu. Step 3. Select the new MIDI input source and channel on another instrument or MIDI track.
  5. Larry's IN THE HOUSE!!! ?
  6. The May 2020 edition of SoundBytes had a nice write up on the Surge Synth, now a free and open source synth, currently being developed by a group of GitHub developers. Worth checking the article out if you missed it! For fans of VCV Rack, there are now Surge modules available for the virtual rack synth! https://soundbytesmag.net/freebies-of-the-month-surge-and-others/
  7. Well you would make your $49 back on the Estey with the crossgrade deal on Kontakt 6 at $249 crossgrade vs. $399 full version. I also have the free DrumMic'a and the paid SoundIron Hyperion Strings Micro, but the NI website only shows the Estey for my crossgrade deal. I don't think it will list more than 1, if you have more than 1 eligible instrument. I'm pretty sure that at one time Drum Mic'a did work for that deal.
  8. I own the Soniccouture Estey Reed Organ, an instrument for Kontakt and Kontakt Player. My account at Native Instruments show me eligible to crossgrade to the full version of Kontakt 6 for $249. Waiting for their next 50% off sale (at $125) ... ? This instrument currently lists for $49 at Soniccouture. I got it for free during a giveaway a few years ago. http://www.soniccouture.com/en/products/18-exclusive-free-content/p233-estey-reed-organ/ However they are currently offering these other Kontakt Player instruments for free: http://www.soniccouture.com/en/free-stuff/ I'm curious if NI will recognize any of these freebies as crossgrade eligible?
  9. They are located in the Studio Mixing FX Suite under Platinum in CCC (if you click on Platinum in the CCC it will reveal about 18 more installers, including this one):
  10. I was just suggesting to check for Nomad Factory plugins, as I couldn't find them when looking for Blue Tube in the browser, until I expanded Nomad Factory like this:
  11. If you view by vendor, the Blue Tubes are found under Nomad Factory.
  12. And apologies for derailing the thread... ?
  13. Talent. The best DAW is the one you know. I have looked at the Reason DAW in the past and I never saw any reason to learn yet another DAW. But the rack and rack instruments made it special, with an edge. Now I am glad that they are doing away with ReWire, and making the rack available as a plugin. ?
  14. The simplest way to start out with synth tracks is to insert them as a simple instrument track. One way (and there are several) is to simply go to the Cakewalk top menu bar and select Insert> Soft Synth > choose any synth from the pulldown menu. Then when greeted by the "Insert Soft Synth Options" panel, simply select "Simple Instrument Track" and click OK. The simple instrument track automatically sets up your MIDI & audio track as one combined instrument track, with all the MIDI & audio routing taken care of. Eventually you may want them as separate tracks , but for starters I do recommend this method first! A synth requires both tracks if used separately.
  15. I would stay away from 32-bit plugins as much as possible. Especially ones that are no longer maintained or supported. When they quit working properly on a modern computer, then it's time to move on and find a replacement. Since BandLab has not been selling the former Cakewalk plugins yet, 3rd party options are the best bet for now. I'll just throw this deal out there... buy any plugin at Plugin Boutique and get this Reason Rack Lite plugin for FREE with any purchase! Plugin Boutique is currently selling iZoptope Iris 2 for $10. Just saying... https://www.pluginboutique.com/product/1-Instruments/4-Synth/1303-Iris-2 Or get AIR Xpand!2 for $14.99, an all around ROMpler with 2400+ instrument sounds. https://www.pluginboutique.com/product/1-Instruments/64-Virtual-Instrument/1560-Xpand-2 So for $25 you get a spectral filtering sampler with 10GB of extra sample content, and a ROMpler, plus the Reason Rack Lite plugin. ?
  16. I see from your screen capture that you have Sonar Professional. I believe Loopmasters was only included with Platinum.

  18. Any standard USB audio interface will work. If your hardware tone generators have stereo audio outputs then you will need at least a module with 2 inputs. Run your hardware audio outputs into the audio interface. Once an audio interface is installed on your PC, Cakewalk will recognize those inputs as available to assign to audio tracks. Enable record on them and you're good to go.
  19. Laughed at "already have cool stuff lol".
  20. TTS-1 is really the only solution in the box for opening up multi-timbral General Midi (GM) song files... And it usually does that quite well. However, I would use other sound sources if I was creating something from scratch though... AIR Xpand!2 is a good budget starting point for sketching a new composition. Quite a variety of instruments, and the quality usually exceeds that of TTS-1. It even offers 4 part multi-timbral use. Not GM, though. But insert 4 instances, and you have 16 channels of MIDI to work with.
  21. Agreed. I think I will finish the learning v4 from the courses I bought for that, before upgrading to v5. Patience is a virtue!
