  1. If you watch the video I posted above, the Minimonsta fell short in the comparison. The Legend was near the top... and Arturia was somewhere in the middle of the pack. Cheers!
  2. Right! That's where I'm leaning. Been waiting for that large EZD GUI for a while. And already have the Arturia Mini V, so don't really need another Moog Mini clone. But it sounds so goooooood!
  3. The Legend is showing at $50 USD right now at Thomann! https://www.thomannmusic.com/synapse_audio_the_legend.htm Well, now it's either Legend or EZ Drummer 3 upgrade for me this month...
  4. I replaced my computers in 2000 (Pentium 1 to Pentium 3), 2006 (Pentium 3 to Pentium 4, 3.0GHz), 2014 (Pentium 4 to Core i3, 3.4 GHz), and 2020 (Core i3 to Core i5-9600K, six cores at 3.7GHz to 4.6GHz). These were all home builds, on a budget, with consideration for needs vs. power, and a desire to built something useful for my needs to last at least 5 years. This last stretch of "make-do" between upgrades was with a CPU that was released in 2012, starting life on Windows 7 32-bit, then upgraded to Windows 10 64-bit in 2016. I struggled with CPU load for VST's for a while towards the end, especially after I upgraded to Win 10. It is much more fun to run a computer without constantly having to "manage" the load! Lifecycles... I stretched things a bit to 6-8 years a couple of times, but felt a bit underpowered after about 5 years both of those times.
  5. The Hammond B3X and the MixBox are excellent, and definitely nice to have! I have found the MixBox great to have as a go-to for insert FX on virtual instrument channels. With 70 processors you can quickly add effects that are better than most on-board synth FX units. And having almost everything you could need available in that one rack provides for instant plug in chain options. Like having a monster FX pedalboard for non-guitar tracks! The FX modules are based on T-RackS, Amplitube, and SampleTank.
  6. The Arturia hardware synths don't have VST emulations in the V Collection, and the Analog Lab only represents virtual instruments that are actually in the collection. The hardware has downloadable sounds available, and the Polybrute even has a software editor/librarian that runs on your computer. But they are entirely separate from Analog Lab.
  7. The automatic move worked well for me. Glad to hear that it's working out well for others! Overall, it's pretty decent software!
  8. Generally speaking, it's probably a good idea to refresh your tech at least every 5 years, especially if you wish to keep up with cutting edge software development. Not that there's anything wrong with holding out and trying to squeeze everything out of what you have invested in. Believe me, I have been there, and have been building my own PC's for over 20 years on a budget. But eventually you have to pay the price for progress... Especially with virtual instruments. Every new generation is much more CPU hungry than the last one! It is, what it is!
  9. That's an 11 year old CPU. https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/53474/intel-core-i72760qm-processor-6m-cache-up-to-3-50-ghz/specifications.html So yep, would expect a few issues with running the latest software with that.
  10. The Larry-bot is usually the best in the business!
  11. Well actually there is quite a decent virtual analog synth under the hood, combined with sample based synthesis, so it is a hybrid synth. It sounds great, with a relatively small footprint, that you can set to a secondary drive via options if desired. https://support.capsule.audio/support/solutions/articles/77000494489-plugin-faq What is the underlying synth engine? To generate sound, the Capsule plugin is leveraging a deep synthesis engine. The engine is a 4 parts synthesizer with a semi-modular architecture. At the heart of the Capsule synthesizer are the oscillators, which are of the following types: Virtual analog Several variations of a state-of-the-art virtual analog synthesizer, including hardware modeled waveforms, hard-sync, pulse-width modulation, frequency modulation, ring modulation, unison, and more. Sample-based An advanced sample-based oscillator, supporting release samples, round-robin, dynamic crossfading, and more, allowing to play realistic sampled instruments as well as enabling creative sound design. Capsule also includes various analog-modeled and creative filters algorithms as well as a wide range of modulations and FXs Is the internal synth engine accessible? Not at the moment. The engine is still under development, however, it will most likely be made available to users at a later point. More details will be shared.
  12. It's not the plugin we were fighting, it's the online portal that runs in the background by default. Part of the online sound content delivery service. Visit the site for details. https://www.capsule.audio/features
  13. Regrading the persistence of the portal running in the background, I assume they expected the majority of their users would (hopefully) be subscribers who would prefer to be online to access sound content. Overall it seemed rather harmless, but annoying to us one-timers. Probably nothing evil intended, just their business model. Bottom line is that the plugin runs just fine offline once installed, as long as you only need the content located on your local drive.
  14. Yep, or the dang plugin launches the portal every time you load up the plugin!
  15. That is annoying! I was just getting ready to post this. I found the solution! By default the portal launches whenever you run the plugin, and stays running in the background so that you will have access to online resources. You have to end the portal task via the Windows Task Manager, but there is a way to prevent it from starting at all. Just turn the cloud options off! https://support.capsule.audio/support/solutions/articles/77000482742-cloud-options See the image below:
  16. I just logged into my IK account and sure enough, I only qualify for the $199 upgrade. But the JRRshop link definitely offers it for $99. Is that an error, or will IK accept the upgrade code from JRR?
  17. This thing sounds good! In addition to the macro knobs available for each preset to control things such as filter and resonance, effect levels, timbre, movement, etc., you can open up a panel to control response curves, ADSR, and voicing mode (mono, legato, and poly). But overall very simple to operate!
  18. The latest, greatest, software will likely have been developed and tested only on current hardware, and is bound to push the limits of older hardware + operating systems. I understand some folks are still using older hardware, as was I at one point, but sooner or later new technology will pass you up if you stand still. However, there is still plenty of good old software that was written on older machines that will run great. For best performance my suggestion is to stick to software that was published during the years when your machine was current.
  19. You can download the entire Neon capsule of 64 sounds, at ~ 800mb in one click by going to Factory > View All > then locate the Neon pack, and click on the download button.
  20. Or even simpler, just run CCC if you have that. It automatically authorizes the Cake plugins.
  21. Normally sold for $9.99 per month with access to all sounds, or $19.99 outright per sound pack. So this pack is basically worth $19.99.
  22. The way I read it you get the Capsule player free + the Capsule’s Neon sound library, free to download for Plug-in Collective members from 14th April to 22nd June. Optionally you can subscribe for access to all sound libraries.
  23. Also Insurmountable free until 4/21
