The harmonica was done with a GR-33 guitar synth, basically a Roland JV-1080. A hexaphonic pickup on the guitar transmits each string to the synth module, then you can record it as audio, midi data or both.

I like the tune. Nice harmonic structure, use of form, melody. These are not so much critiques but if I were listening as if it were 'my tune', this is what what I'd change or work on. -The bass is too busy in the 1st first & in general for my tastes, conflicts with your voice. Streets of blood section: -I'd go for more of a whole feel in the bass rather than 16 notes It's too choppy with everything hitting the 16ths, needs more counterpoint. -Lower the crashes volume or velocities & there's too many. Try more of a 1/2 time feel (or maybe for the first time, drive it more the 2nd time ) The drum track is overplayed & needs to sit back more. -Strings are too up front & I'd orchestrate them. Again with a more whole note pedal feel using lower strings. And pedal bass with lower strings in that bass solo section as well. It's a decent demo & it's a good song. Just needs some tweaks & producing to make it sound less of a midi project & more of a band sound. Again, it's all subjective. Take it with a grain of salt (of the world ?)

Thanks. Originally the tune was written with vocals in mind & the octave guitar lines were intended as a melody guide. I never finished the project so I left the guitar as is. Thanks Grem, I used the GR-33 on the harmonica track & for writing the tune (eventually replacing the chords with a different EP)

Instrumental pop-jazz demo from 2002, replaced the drum track & remixed. Back when I used a GR-33, channeling my inner Toots on this track!

Try the new N4 (R010) update. I think it's fixed the problem.

All are good choices (except maybe Waves Kramer, good for crushing & distortion) I like using Softube Tape on individual tracks but prefer IK's Tape & AA's / CDS R2R-TB on the 2 bur or mastering. Uhe's is complex, can be tweaked alot more.

The phrasing of a violin can be difficult to achieve even with the best libraries. I 'd also try switching it out with a synth lead, moog etc... If you have a decent harpsichord vi/patch you might try that in place of the piano too. The use of different instruments might help inspire the arrangement or compositional changes.

Be aware Cakewalk was removed from AA's list for supported hosts for N4.

oldTimer is great, a go-to comp for years. The FETpressor 1176 Compressor is excellent as well.

I know, I'm fed up with the ever changing copyright laws too. The last filing I did they actually called me at home because they couldn't understand my previous registration addition on the form. I've done it many times in the past & for over 20 years yet the person still couldn't understand it. Now the per usual increase in fees plus more restrictions on the artist, very discouraging. Your 2 file method might be the way to go. Good luck!
