  1. Uh! Do you have some sort of a problem typing into your computer?? I think you said something about Midi banks but it was hard to understand when you are shouting! And repeated that 3x FYI. Nothing has changed since 1992? in how Cakewalk deals with midi.
  2. Im so old that I have already paid for my tombstone. I have no problem finding things on the internet. I just Google the questions. That bloody stupid AI always has an answer. right or wrong. But it never can tell me where the heck I left the car keys!! But it seems to know where I left my stupid iPhone. I don’t care about my phone but I do need to know where my keys are! But the AI doesn’t know anything about why projects go bonkers if you turn on Ripple Edit and then forget you did. A popular feature request was that the Ripple Edit has a RED light that flashed and is the size of a beer cap! But no With the new Sonar it actually has shrunk to the size of a pin head. Geeze
  3. I was curious about exactly how old the TTS-1 was. Google says 2005 but I thought it was older than that? It took me down a rabbit hole of KVR posts from 2005. One topic was about how Roland was avoiding getting involved in Software development. So I guess we owe the existence of the TTS-1 to a brief moment in time that Roland dabbled in software development. The TTS-1 has a few bugs but has served as the heart of Cakewalk for longer than it should have. I doubt anyone would ever actually use the built in controls. Congratulations on finding a 20 year old bug that I don’t think anyone else ever noticed. It’s a shame that they didn’t give it the full 16 channel outputs. Only 4. Then you could use track EQ on each individual instrument. But it’s really a tool for previewing GM files. It has a couple of sounds that I find useful like the steel drums and Marimba. It has a good brush snare as well.
  4. In a perfect world we would chase away clients who have little or no experience or talent. But running a small business requires we at least try and help everyone who comes around asking to use our services. In my studio if a singer came in and sang obviously way out of key I would create a vocal guide track for them. A lot of unprofessional singers are used to singing to Karaoke tracks which have a guide vocal. Ok, that made for some improvement but what next. We still are sitting there recording a few takes that we know are out of key. Repeated takes are not getting any better. Playback the recording and see what their reaction is. What you hear and what they hear can be very different. It’s their money they are spending. I always let clients know that my job is the sound engineer, Im here to capture and record. It is not my job to “Produce “ . That’s a different hat. I will only assist them in “Producing “ They ultimately need to make the calls on performance quality. Or bring in a friend or spouse to assist. As we all know a bad performance will result in way more editing and this ultimately is up to them. It’s their money. If in the end they walk out the door with a recording that is sung out of key is that my fault?
  5. Yep the good old Ripple Edit gotcha. Yes it’s pretty obvious that there is a Sonar sub forum. Browse back to the Main page of the forum.
  6. When you say that you can’t get it to do anything at all that implies you’re not doing something right. Basics are it needs a kit loaded to make sound. Then you can feed it midi data from a track or from hardware like a drum machine or a keyboard controller. Midi data might also need to be using the correct midi channel. Then drum sounds might be assigned to different drum maps. Example C2 may or may not be a kick drum. Then there’s some patterns that you also need to pick and load. I can’t remember if those send out midi data. I don’t think SI drums does. I don’t think playing the kit with a mouse does either? I haven’t tried that yet myself.
  7. Actually Im afraid Sonar has just about fallen to the bottom of the list of most popular Daw’s of 2025. It’s not even on most of them. Cakewalk at least used to make the lists. Oddly enough Bandlab the app is on the list. So that’s an interesting insight into where the cash flow is coming from.
  8. I’ve been using Waveform for over a year part time. One big difference between Sonar and Waveform that I noticed is that it only uses one type of track. That track can be a Midi track, Instrument track or an Audio track. It also has a lot of built in tempo detection and mapping which is typically for people who use audio loops. So possibly looking at what is the difference between the track used in Waveform and the track used in Sonar might explain something.
  9. Ya your choices of sample and bit rates is a unusual. I'd most certainly stick with 44.1/ 24 or 48/24 as the default for projects. I doubt that a cheapo Realtek chip is even that capable of recording audio at 32. As a matter of fact your problem could possibly be caused by something like that. Here's a cool way to find out fast what track is causing the issue. Open the export dialogue and choose " Tracks through entire mix" I recommend setting it at 44.1/ 32 because that was your project rate and then nothing gets converted. Leave dither off. This will export each track as a stem. The cool trick here is that it solos each track as it exports in turn. You can watch the progress as it solos and renders each track. If it gets to a certain track and you get the error you will now know which one caused this to happen. If it doesn't choke then you at least now have stems you can re create the project with. ( in any Daw)
  10. So true. Best to stay simple and not use crap that is always trying to update or authorize. A good reason why I am leaning towards hardware again.
  11. In a way yes. Im sure you were aware that you were on borrowed time for the end of life of Cakewalk. For such a simple task I m wondering why you would have chosen to use it. Hopefully it was just one song and not a lot more. As said above, before you close the project you have options to easily salvage the audio files. Once you close I think it’s all gone but it might be still in the audio folder. Might be in the temporary global audio folder.
  12. Im afraid this is was a more less drive by rant. Jake first posted this in Aug. got two responses. Left the building with no reply. Didn’t return for 2 Months. Continue rant and now gets more responses and possibly will return again in a few more months. I find it amazing that this is a complaint about installing software? Two months later still trying??
  13. I would definitely recommend recording using a different app as a test. You can try Cakewalk Next. Waveform is also free. Don’t try Audacity because it doesn’t support ASIO. There’s been a few posts this fall from Focusrite , Motu and RME users having similar issues and it’s pointing to something W11 have screwed up. Someone even mentioned that they found W11 was running in 44.1 even though they had set everything to 48 Myself I had to shelve my Motu M4 because it keeps going distorted if I leave my computer on for a few hours. I have to restart.
  14. I’m assuming that you are recording a real bass. Are you using your interface direct monitoring system or are you using the tracks input echo? I’ve never experienced hearing latency in over 16 years of Sonar and at least 7 different audio interfaces. But I always use direct monitoring when tracking vocals. Guitar and bass. Track Input echo (monitoring ) is always off otherwise you will hear the round trip latency of your system. I only use the tracks input monitor for midi recording. The only time I might use it is messing around with a guitar sim VST like TH3
  15. Sorry if we side tracked you with the Real tek issue. You don’t have it. At least I don’t see it listed in Cakewalk or the Register. It was just one of the possibilities. So forget that one. Your screenshot of Sonars in / out list shows that you have everything set up correctly. What isn’t working correctly right now? Just the distortion? There’s been a few reports on other music forums about W11 distortion issues with name brand audio interfaces. I myself have a similar problem with a Motu M4. If I leave the computer on for a few hours I get distortion in all my Daw’s but not Windows app like Media player. So it’s something going on with W11 and the ASIO drivers. To test this try another Daw. Waveform is free. Make sure and choose ASIO mode. You can also try Cakewalk Next. It’s not designed like Cakewalk but it’s pretty easy to use. And you just might be the last person on earth using Cakewalk still. You need to take some time and read the announcements posted at the top of the forum. Starting 2 years ago it all changed. I have submitted a ticket to Motu about my issue, you might want to do the same. But they will ask you to try another Daw to test. I’ve seen reports of RME, Focusrite, Motu and now Tascam where there is distortion of the audio. One person reported that they found out W11 was running in 44.1 mode in the background. Even though they had it set to 48 in settings. They used some sort of tool to detect this. I can’t find the thread now. I think it was on Gear Space.
  16. I do believe that there used to be the links at the bottom of the web page for Next. But that all might have changed with the free version stuff. looks to me like it’s just having a bad hair day as the wheel is going around and around. Welcome to the wonderful world of on line activating. Turn off your computer and go have a beer. Tomorrow will bring good luck.
  17. I think the difference is that Ripple edit also removes chunks of data from the tempo track and automation. Im pretty sure deleting a hole doesn’t.
  18. It’s in the Help menu just like all software. But I simply Googled “Cakewalk Next Users Guide “ and found the PDF.
  19. OK just to test I loaded up a multi out track template and it works like it always does. This might look a little different because I only have Platinum. You used the word "import"? did you mean to say Insert? You see at the bottom of the list my TTS-1 4 output track template. You see here I get the four tracks as well as the TTS-1 most certainly is loaded and ready to go.
  20. Looks good. Seems like you found the right place in the Reg Edit app. That’s what it should look like when all you have is one interface. And Sonar looks correct as well. You should be good to go. Tascam has always been a first class company and made a lot of great products for us home studio folks. I have the predecessor of yours I bought in 2008. The us1641. It has recorded a million projects. It still works as good as new but uses W7.
  21. In my wisdom from being older that I should be for doing this stuff. I am returning to traditional recording techniques. I want to see what I can accomplish without using midi. I have been using Midi since 1986 and my Atari computer. I figured nobody ever listens to my music anyway so why not relax and have fun playing with my collection of instruments. My stuff is like the music from the 60’s- 70’s so not hard to emulate those recordings. Turn off the metronome etc. For my last run of backing tracks I used Steve Slates free kit. Didn’t even tweak it. It works! Im not sure if it has any brushes. Probably could purchase them.
  22. Why don’t you try Cakewalk Next? Go to page 63 of the user manual and see how simple it is. First save your Sonar project as a Cakewalk Interchange Format CXF file. This will allow you to open the project in Next. Change the tempo and either carry on or transfer back to Sonar. Next doesn’t have a Console view so that part is a deal breaker for final mix down.
