last bump on this one before it's gone
-
hi freddy! so glad you dig this one, it's a direction i'd like to explore more, so maybe your comments help fuel that interest! as far as the instrumental stuff goes, i kinda feel like it's a bit of a lesser achievement, because i can just solo over almost anything, and get something out of it. but, it IS a good backing track to solo over, because it's so simple... feels a bit like a cheat! LOL
-
you are very welcome bill! thanks for listening
-
hey daryl! good ear, the snare. that is actually 5 snares stacked on top of each other, ala superior drummer x-drums. i may try adding a touch of verb on the end of one of the snares, to let the tail hang out a bit.
-
thanks so much paul! glad you liked this one

hey douglas! thanks for listening.... inadoddadavida, a bit before my time! i don't know what kind of fuzz they used on that, but this is a clone of a couple of different fuzzes, a jumbo bender, and a classic triangle. it also has a brilliant little switch called 'sludge' switch, that allows you to dial in exactly how much low end you pass thru the circuit, which lets you really tighten up a phatty fuzz. i used all settings of the pedal on this demo.

thank you wookiee! hey lynn! this is the album version. it was a tough arrangement
-
hey lynn!! yes, textures-r-us with this one, i'm doing a lot of experimenting with this new fuzz pedal i got, and i'm using some songs that i'm in the middle of writing, to throw down some 'textures'. i'm also playing two keyboards on this one, so it sounds different than my usual guitar centric stuff.

https://soundcloud.com/bats-brew/pali-face this is another active song i'm working on, that i applied a fuzz-driven solo track across, just to experiment with the new barber exacta fuzz i recently received. njoy
-
thanks T! yea, at one point, i think there are 6 guitars at once! LOL but then, in areas, like the actual solo, everything breaks down to one rhythm, one solo guitar, one bass. then builds back up. that one was tricky to mix for sure.
-
he found a huge quantity of fuzz in my lungs, has no idea where it came from.....?
-
alright harry! glad you dig this one, i put my heart and soul into this one. hey T, no, these are LIVE DRUMS. played by Brent Dacus, out of the D/FW area. and he's bad @ss. he asked me how to play it (he's a degreed guy, symphony, jazz, country, gig stew), and i said "Think Neanderthal." LOL
-
? going to doc this morning...
-
hey wookiee! yea, i agree with the busy drums, i've already gone in and edited all that extra stuff out there.... it makes more sense to let the thing go a bit ambient there, i've got like 6 guitars feeding back there!! LOL, don't need no stinkin' drums! this version will not be messed with, because i'm actively working on the vocal version of it, which will sound quite a bit different than this one. but i have a bout of bronchitus right now, so wont be singing for a while!
-
hey sailor! glad you got a chance to check it before it's gone.... drums on this one are all live. brent dacus is his name, from the D/FW area.
-
https://soundcloud.com/bats-brew/michaels-house-instrumental brand new original. this is an instrumental version of a lyrical song in working on now. i recently picked up a new fuzz, a Barber Exacta, and this version of the song was just for me to try different settings of the fuzz! njoy.
-
hey tom! so glad you dig this one. this song, i think the drums were EZDrummer, just before i upgraded to superior.... still good sounding kits for sure. it took me quite some time to write that swagger beat, there was NOTHING in the midi grooves that was even close.
-
one bump before it's out of the ether
-
thanks Ed!
-
hey douglas, thanks man! yes, i can play. it's what i do. but trying to write songs that stand up, that's trickier.................... that middle eight, was really tricky, so many things are happening, and then it all falls away to just a rhythm, bass drums and solo
-
wow mark! kind words, thank you sir. yea,, the ending is supposed to be kinda like a hangover, with the nasty discordant chord signifying that, indeed, the moonshine has done its' job!
-
alright jdf! vox on a song as mellow on this, i was on the fence about.... i like the idea of having them further back, to draw the listener into the music more than just the vox. hey lynn, thanks for the comments, that's nice of you to say. America, i really liked that band when i was growing up, listening to the radio, funny you mention them. they were never an influence as much as, say, CSN&Y were, but still, it's a very similar thing, to the eagles as well. nothing wrong with those bands!! hi Edd, glad you enjoyed this one, it's pretty introspective.
-
heheh, yea, that'd be the allman joys! but yea, those guys were just coming into their own when i was a but a wee lad... and i heard all that stuff, all the time! i was the weirdo around my music peers.... i liked the stones, and yes, and 3 dog night, and sabbath, and purple, and queen, and mahavishnu! didn't mix it up well with sweet home alabama!!! LOL hey, thanks for listening to this one... it was a lot of fun to write and record
-
hi edd! i love the idea of doing a 'folk song' and giving it a southern rock edge....
-
hey edd! thanks for listening to this one.
