  1. alright lynn! this softer acoustic based stuff, is a great chill mode for me... i didn't really think the slide parts thru, i had the acoustics done, and didn't know what to do with them.. then the melody for the slide parts just popped in my head, that was one session to do all the slide parts, so it WAS kinda unpredictable, even for me!! thanks man
  2. hi andrew! thanks so much for commenting... glad you dig it, you're tapping into the vibe i was trying to put out there... and big stereo speakers, just like the good ole days when folks had the nice stereos setup in every household.. THAT is the way to listen to this!
  3. thanks so much andrew, i'm so glad folks are moving to this one. it's made for it. hey lynn, glad you dig the sounds, it was quite the experiment, and i'm quite happy with it. appreciate the comments
  4. https://soundcloud.com/bats-brew/apollo-18 a really nice, mellow, bittersweet song that features slide guitar. Apollo 18: the Gemini, and then the Apollo missions that ran thru the 60’s to the 70’s, was an amazing time in my mind; Apollo 18 would have traveled to the Copernicus Crater, but it never happened, and the Apollo program was retired. A bittersweet melody runs thru this song, as the ending of the Apollo program was just as bittersweet. from the new album "Elemental", available here: Bandcamp: https://batsbrew.bandcamp.com/ Apple Music: https://music.apple.com/us/album/elemental/1551745206 Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08VJQJM4P/ref=dm_ws_sp_ps_dp
  5. hi marc! steely dan, i love a lot of steely dan songs, almost all of Aja... so, yea, maybe. thanks for listening!
  6. thanks so much daryl... man, dropping thomas dolby.. i always thought that album of his was better than the critics allowed...
  7. thanks so much barry! this tune, had a completely different drum groove to it, when i started.. it's interesting how songs change, once you get into it... it was the same thing when i was working full time with a band, you throw ideas around and see what sticks. then, you come up with a general consensus. me, i'm my own band now and coming up with a general consensus can be... problematic. LOL
  8. i thought of it more as setting myself up for future tracking... downsizing my rig... it's very cheap, compared to, say, the UA Ox, or buying a fender deluxe, and a vox ac30, AND a marshall super lead. heheh
  9. yep, that's like the one that john scofield used to use, i think... all of the ones of that vintage are just great guitars.
  10. hey kurt... my 1st ibanez artist, was a 1979 2619 model, which i bought in 1979, and had until i bought that Carvin up above, in 1984. i had to sell the artist to afford the custom build of the carvin, and always regretted it... i mean, i loved the carvin, still do, will never sell it...but i really liked that Artist too! One day, I walked into GC to look at Les Paul Double cuts. They didn't have any. What they DID have, was a 1977 Ibanez Artist 2618, priced out at $899 (which is about $400 cheaper than anything I’ve found on EBay).... I talked them down to $599, with original case. Really good condition, one small chip out of the finish on the back, and the pickup selector knob is broken off, but the selector still works fine. i've got to fix that as soon as covid goes away. original frets, very little wear. No checking in the finish, it's beautifully worn, gold finish is coming off the hardware at a very normal rate, for a 44 year old guitar!
  11. guitars used on this song: from left to right: 1984 Carvin DC-200K, 2008 USACG custom build, 1977 Ibanez Artist 2618.
  12. hi kurt! i DO like the iridium a lot. i have not recorded a guitar track with a mic and cab since i got this thing. well, that's not entirely true, but the one time i spent mic recording, i tossed the tracks afterwards, to use newer Iridium tracks. it doesn't have bass amp sims.... only the fender deluxe, the vox ac 30, and the marshall super lead 100 watt plexi. but, a lot of prog rockers that i dig, that play bass, used marshall stacks to find their bass tones... i'm using a closed back 4x10 bass cabinet impulse that i bought from Celestion. here: https://www.celestionplus.com/product/pulse10-4x10-bass-closed/ now, some of my bass tracks are the marshall and 4x10 bass cab only... but i also blend a lot of bass tracks by splitting the signal into 2 mono signals, one to the iridium, one to a Sansamp Bass DI, and i hpf and lpf to get the lowest lows clean from the sansamp, and the body of the sound, drive and grit, from the Iridium. works like a charm.
  13. howdy emerald, thanks so much! hey andy! glad you dig this groove .... i probably spent more time deciding on the right meter for this, than i did recording it!! i must have changed it a dozen times...
  14. hi Lynn! thanks for listening, you should check out the whole album if you really like this one.... video? aren't there enough lame @ss videos on the web, without MY mug being out there too?!! LOL maybe, if i EVER have time for that. it's hard enough writing music, and then trying to find time to record it? OOF!
  15. hey kurt, thanks for the questions. drums: i pull midi data from a huge library of riffs, and then i edit that loop (and each loop) to do exactly what i want it to do. you're best bet to learn superior drummer, is to go here and watch the vids: https://www.toontrack.com/product/superior-drummer-3/
  16. THANKS JACK C i like to funk it up sometimes... i've got two new songs, that are going to be similar to this... one will be 'fun', the other will be intense
  17. cool wookiee! i'm so glad you checked this out,
  18. thanks so much wookiee that bass was fun to play. that's my long scale Carvin LB70.
  19. hi kurt! yea, dense arrangement, but open at the same time... this one was REALLY fun to arrange... it took about 4 variations of this song to land on this arrangement. the bass was the EASY part!! heheh, that was a single take.
  20. cool thing about this tune, all the guitar parts and bass parts were done using a strymon Iridium. no amps. drums are superior drummer 3.
  21. Popping tight: I played rock and pop and funk tunes in cover bands for several years, and developed a love for certain style of funk. This is my inner Stevie and Prince coming out. heheh from the new album, you can get it here: Bandcamp: https://batsbrew.bandcamp.com/
