I can't help but wonder if maybe Cakewalk isn't adding some more info to identify the audio codec. If you take video out of the equation and only looked at the audio, then any wav will be out of sync with it's Mp4 copy because of the codec information added to it. Are you bringing in a wav at the beginning of the mix?
Until this is resolved I would likely keep the wav file and simply realign to it.....or use Vegas.

I have only had a starved computer once and I told myself never again. Absolute minimum 8gb ram and that's playing Russian roulette. Cakewalk should probably change that minimum requirement, granted if you're only mixing two tracks it's probably ok. I typically do all of my builds with 16gb minimum. I think Jim probably sees clients asking for 32 and 64gb. For most home studio needs 16 is fine.
Laptops are finicky and aren't the best things to upgrade, granted you could probably land some more memory on the cheap if it's older, especially if you find someone selling used memory from a parts machine. If you aren't used to disassembly of a lappy I strongly discourage trying to do it yourself. If you have the confidence and think you can find the hidden screws go for it. If it's a "nothing to loose" situation then it doesn't matter if things go south during the assembly/disassembly or the loss of those teeny weeny screws
I have done it, but it isn't fun. If you do it wrong screens can be broken cables can be pinched
You might conjure cuss words you thought you had forgotten years ago.

Yes I understand that FLStudio and Reason originate from Pattern Based sequencers. So a different sort of sequencer.
However ACID vs CAKEWALK. Both handle Audio ( samples etc ) and Midi tracks. Both use all VSTs etc. Both time stretch.

Just wondering .. what has ACID got that Cakewalk does not ..
Yes and no. If you have Cakewalk set up right you should be able to drag and drop loops same as Acid Pro. This is the thing though, you need to have those resolutions set up the same so that when you drag a loop over in Cakewalk it behaves the same. In Acid Pro you don't need to think about this as much, which in a small way makes that process easier for some people. If things aren't set correctly for loops everything won't butt up seamless and you might be in a different key or loops might overlap/be slightly out of time.. No DAW is perfect but Acid Pro makes it easiest IMHO. Pretty much set to go in it. I've already missed settings and some loops didn't align because I had the wrong time or resolution set. I think Cakewalk wanted to give you more options there so the functions can be seen as either something you want or a PITA all depending. Good of Cakewalk to offer these options. Gets even more complicated when there are tempo changes. You could argue that this is user incompetence or user error. I see it more like a few less steps in the creation process. Sonic foundry originated the Acid loop technology so it only stands to reason they do it best I guess
If only looking at the specs between loop technologies Reason or REX loops is the winner when looking at the stretch algorithms for sound quality. I never got into Reason though and this is strictly speaking of the on paper spec which might be different than what your ears hear or care about.

I take it this isn't a sad song. Has a nice uplifting feel to it. Great mix Gary. I hope to hear more. I only wish I knew Norwegian good enough to tell what they are saying. Oh well.

Excellent vocals . Very reflective music. To me the strings seems just a bit much. Wonderful work here!

Thanks for the comments guys! I agree bjornpdx. After a few more listens I think the harp is a bit under done. Kloon, you are not the first to say you didn't find the music totally relaxing. I had another person say the same thing making me reconsider the whole approach since that was my goal.
I don't want to clutter up the songs thread, so I'll post another recent example of the Elysium harp here. Note that I haven't used a fraction of what it can do yet. I usually prefer to play my harp parts in without any arpeggios.

So I was basically trying out Elysium harp and made some mood music......or meandering whichever you prefer to call it. I still don't think I've work with the harp enough to understand it totally. This is intended to be relaxing music.

That's one of the things I like about this forum, we can be so frank and it's mostly guys so no one minds. I'm glad you made it out ok and all is well. Thanks for letting us know.
I had some serious stuff going on not long ago and thankfully all now seems well. I'm no worse for wear as a result. Unfortunately a few of my friends recently had some bad news. I consider myself one of the lucky ones, though I'll admit being brought into the operating room and looking at the robot that was going to open me up was scary. It looked like some kind of an insect with like 3 small arms on each side of it. The doc sits at a monitor and never touches you. He works those pinchers remotely looking at a camera. They put you on the table inclined so all of your insides go toward your head. This is actually beneficial because the holes they need to make are smaller. They cut something out and sewed something back where something else was and now I'm repaired. I pee really well now lol. If my house ever catches fire I think I could put it out.

When I mix cello it's usually on the lower strings so I'm probably not the best listener for this. I might try viola instead if the parts are higher. The last take almost sounds like brass to me at the :40 mark. The thing I like about cello are those nice deep harmonics and overtones.
Anyways, good luck! May the best sample win.

My old DAW needs a serious clean out but since I built my other DAW I don't give it much thought. I would basically need to load a new OS because my old OS on it is corrupted which means it takes a long time to boot up and get my Acid Pro 7 to even start. For this reason only I think it would be a great idea to upgrade to the 64 bit version and load it on my newer DAW.
As to the answer to the question , Why would I want Acid Pro? Maybe you wouldn't , maybe you would. It all has to do with what you want to do. The interface is bar none one of the easiest ever to put together a loop based mix and makes it worth the coin to a few. I haven't heard the new loops. The other loops are beginning to sound dated. If I jump though I don't really want the studio version. I'm going whole hog for the pro version or nothin' at all
"If" they knock off a considerable amount if you own studio that changes my thinking on it some.

This probably isn't the library for the dude who only spent 100.00 on his interface. Nice libraries though. Maybe one day I'll lay out the cash for this. Definitely on the back burner.

Interesting discussion that I recently read elsewhere that a piano isn't really in tune. Since it needs to space 12 equal tones out a few are off here and there. If a violinist plays with a piano their perfect pitch might be off compared to the piano tuning. In order to play along they need to play out of tune or have the piano custom tuned.

I bought the lib last night. I had been looking at this before . It isn't a runaway steal but it's a good value for what it is. Much more than a simple sample library. You have an arpeggiator, the ability to put all music keys on the white keys making playing things easier. Multiple mic positions and playing positions. Lots of control over the sound itself and the classic soundiron fx area to mangle in any way you wish.
I have several other harps and this is the the best of those. Highly recommended.

Thanks CClarry. That's a nice harp. Tempting. Soundiron has delivered some great libraries for good prices.

Thanks.
This might be a way to get to Acid Pro for less in the future. Maybe.

Beagle Tom and John. Thanks so much for commenting. Yes I haven't had time to work that midi automation yet. Thank you for re affirming that.
@soundregionThe strings are Amadeus. I might have thrown a few Soundiron strings in there too. I honestly forget TBH. Thanks for your comments.

I liked this. The guitar parts are what make it IMO.A very melancholic yet medium paced piece. Has a contemplative feel while on the move. I don't hear a vocal in this. I personally can't put a date on this like 70's. I think it sounds current . Thanks for sharing!

A lot for a web surfing machine. Not a lot for a recording computer...well ok it's a lot but worth it.

Thanks for your thoughts on this. I would rip the crotch out of my pants trying to reach that back row of pedals ? Might cause other issues I won't go into here.?
Never considered the portability issue as the driving factor. I keep all of my stuff in the studio and have another set of stuff I take out. Jim, thanks for bringing up the transformer issue. That's a big one for me. Decent pre amps generally rely on good heavy transformers. I guess I need a better reason to plop down over 500.00 for a box with a some sockets and a power supply. I don't mean to sound sarcastic or to downplay anyone who went that route. When I buy a pre amp though, it's going to be more about the sound than the size.

There no longer appears to be hardware forum. I seen an "Instrument And Effects" area but I didn't feel this fit there.
I'm looking at adding some better microphone pre amps in the future and looked at 500 series boxes which begin in the neighborhood of 300.00 for the most basic 500 series box. For that price all you get is A- A place to put your 500 series modules and B- a way to power those modules. Prices for the modules are close to standard rack gear prices, so I guess I'm wondering what the real advantage is other than a more compact foot print. If you bought 500 series stuff what attracted you to it? What are the advantages?
The form factor looks like a nice way to line a few better than average pre amps up side by side using very little space. I don't really see any other advantages especially for the asking price of those boxes. Maybe someone knows why the mounting boxes are so expensive?

This one sounds like you had a lot of fun making it. Interesting combination of elements here. You already had the synth techniques down well...branching into sampled orchestral sound only made it better!
