That's going to be a bummer when the new manager comes out soon.
Hey Peter - do you mean a new installation manager, something like the Toontrack Product Manager or the iZotope Product Portal?

Anyone know how much disk space the bundle takes up?
-
This does sound very nice, but I do have to wonder - is having a sampled (real) synth really that much better than using some of the better synth plugins? I know it means you get a real analogue sound, but I'm guessing it also means you lose some tweakability, and that it uses more disk space.
Either way, this is a very good deal.

Apparently, their flagship EQ is discounted to $349.99 too. Strange though - I would have thought that anyone who has enough money to buy an EQ plugin for more than $300 wouldn't care if it was $399 or $349.

It's the Gold version. I believe most who still use this library use the platinum version. And really, based on the reaction to the announcement that NI was no longer supporting the Kontakt version of this, it is still in use by working composers.
Price is decent though.
I thought they used EW's own proprietary Play engine?

hmm... the paid-for ones do seem to be new, and the link Simon posted above still works. Not sure whether over time they'll migrate the other 10 free ones, silently get rid of that page, or both.

Hey @Simeon Amburgey - this is going to be a tough question (especially as the answer is whatever suits the mood being targeted), but out of all of the pianos that you've ever played/reviewed, which one is your favourite?
-
14 have been released for free since the KLANG series started; I counted four that were marked as free on the website, though it's possible I missed something.

I'm all for the new website; I'm even ok with it selling affordable instruments; I don't understand why they would take down some previously released free instruments though... unless they've been rebranded and are now being sold

Hey Fleer, do you have this? Is it better than iZotope Vinyl?

And just have all my non-library files in a nice organized manner on the Kontakt drive. The folders are all labeled by company and I rename libraries to tell me what they are, if they don't already.
I used to group all my full-Kontakt libraries in folders according to their company (which would help if I forgot whether I had previously bought a library). I recently came to the conclusion that I would often forget about the smaller libraries that I had bought because I was always looking in the 'bigger' companies' folders. So, I very recently started grouping them by type first (e.g. Keys/Bowed Strings/etc), then by company, and then finally by library name. Time will tell if this makes a positive difference...

I stopped watching this one after about 15 seconds when he said "...better sound quality".
Wasn't there a DAW that, according to someone, sounded 20-40% better a while ago?

I managed to use a 70% coupon a little while back - they've got some really nice-sounding atmospheric pads

Foobar 2000. Great offline media player - very light on resources, though not necessarily the best looking

The simple answer is, if you don't like Windows and think it's bloated, don't use Windows. If you want a Unix-based OS either go with Linux or, if you want more app support, go with a Mac that runs some variant of OSX.

That means it is better to write a Linux app than "native" .net app.
Depends what language you like writing in...
As an aside, a .NET Core app will run in both Windows and Linux. You can't use WPF for UIs and expect them to run on Linux though; maybe a cross platform library like Qt, though they just don't 'feel' quite right.

Find possible solution halfway through a thread on page 4. Try to update library mentioned in post. Discover it has dependencies downstream. Use package manager to update it all. Solution doesn't work. Continue to read thread and discover it didn't work for a lot of other people either. Continue to search. find another possible answer. rinse, repeat. eventually get the program working, but another program had a dependency on that old gcc+ library and now needs to be updated to work with the replacement. reinstall app using package manager. Test both, now they work!
Super simple!
If I want to fsck around with computers I'll have a girlfriend sit on my Mac mini.
Don't forget that reading a typical man page for a linux command will take a year...

I believe that it's a list of the best DAWs according to their readership, or at the very least the people who took the survey - that may or may not correspond to someone's personal workflow, but it may help people new to the field, or just give some awareness to other DAWs.

There's some pretty good stuff there, e.g. you could get a fairly good discount on Frozen Plain libraries, or the Audiofier stuff if good too

Hi Zo
This isn't going to fix anything, but might give more insight on the problem. If you press Win+R to get the Run dialog and then type certmgr.msc, you should get the Certificates manager. On the left panel you should see a folder called Trusted Root Certificate Authorities. Inside that folder should be another folder called Certificates. If you click that, you should see all your trusted root certificates on the right panel. Do you see USERTrust TSA Certificate Authority in there? If so, has it expired?

And dang, it looks like Devs are now making stuff for Kontakt 6 and up now, leaving us Kontakt 5 folks out. I guess Kontakt 6 is a $200 upgrade
With the current Summer of Sound sale, a Komplete (standard) update is £84.50

Thanks for library @rasure - sounds really good.

It escapes me why an individual who wished to share their sampled instrument(s) just for the enjoyment of it would choose the Kontakt format. The Kontaktians would no doubt say it's because of the multitudes of people who own Kontakt and are therefore able to use them.
If they already owned Kontakt and knew the ins and outs, I don't see why this would be a bad idea, though I realise this isn't the case in this scenario.
7 hours ago, Starship Krupa said:I don't know what Kontakt has going for it that SampleTank (the most recent issue) and other such products don't, except maybe the ability to create those elaborate UI's?
I've never made any instruments but from what I've read, the scripting available in Kontakt is far more advanced, meaning that more realistic-sounding instruments can be made

Like the current Summer Madness sale (or whatever), where they're doing 50% off upgrades, but not 50% off for first-time buyers who might be willing to drop $300 for (not-so) KOMPLETE, but are never going to spend $599 for same.
They did so on one year - the very next day after I decided to use a $22 e-voucher to get that much off the full price (because the first buy is never discounted, right...). Not complaining (too much) though, it's a great sampler for my usages. YMMV.
7 hours ago, John Bradley said:Also, I find it slightly amusing that Session Horns Pro is a $150 Kontakt library (something like 30-40GB) that plays in the free Kontakt Player, but somehow someone's freeware "Yet Another Collection of '808 Samples" Kontakt instrument requires the full-blown version.
That's because you need an (expensive) license to make a Kontakt Player instrument. For someone making something and giving it away for free, it doesn't make much sense to buy a license. Files for full Kontakt don't need a license, but can only be opened in full Kontakt.

It's not much of a discount, but on Time+Space the upgrade from TH-3 is £68.02 (down from £76.99). Not sure if there'll be a bigger discount in future.
