  1. Funny you mentioned Melda. After testing over 80 compressors the Mcompressor is my new go to trustworthy compressor. It is replacing the Sonitus. If you can’t get what you need out of the Mcompressor you need to take more lessons. It actually has a built in tutorial. And it has the all important meters which most of those wannabe vintage ones don’t have. Between that and the CA 2A I’m covered. That took about 3 months so let’s see how fast I can seek out and find my go to Delay to also replace the Sonitus.
  2. I break my vocals into the lines of the lyrics. Each song is different but that doesn't make it any more work to open a lot of clips. I zoom in so I don't like too many note blobs on my screen. I have just come up with a huge timesaver, Custom Short cuts keys. I had never used these 2 before and they are really easy to reach. Just put the clip in focus before using the keys. Z= open regional effect Melodyne X = Render regional effect. Close your eyes and I'll kiss you, Tomorrow I'll miss you; clip 1 Remember I'll always be true. clip 2 And then while I'm away, I'll write home ev'ry day, clip 3 And I'll send all my loving to you. clip 4
  3. That was a very interesting read. I'm in. Going to purchase it. For testing compressors I had to use things like M Oscillator and that didn't tell you as much as this does. This tool I think is defiantly worth it for people who use free plug ins. We are sort of taking a chance and can only use our ears. People blindly slap those little Tape emulators and one knob dials that promise analog vibe to their mix without really knowing what is actually happening. My personal quest is mostly for plug ins that are Clean.
  4. Actually once you save and close the project undo is not available. So it's good you didn't close it. Or? If what you are saying is you closed it without saving then that is also fine because any work would be lost and the clip should not have the regional effects applied when you re open the project again.
  5. Always work with a copy of the track. Always work with short clips around 4 to 8 measures. Rendering is destructive and it is possible for things to go wrong. Second you might not like the results so it’s easy to re copy that clip and start over. Did you try Undo-render?
  6. Good call I missed that. D drive is not a normal place for program files and VST folders. All of mine are C drive and in either Cakewalk, Stienberg or VST folders. The VST 3 are in the Common folder. So just 4 pathways.
  7. Odd never crashes for me and I know there’s a lot of others use it. And that said when Cakewalk does crash 99% of the time it’s a plug in. This is why I recommend only using very solid dependable VST instruments. Example most of us are finding the TTS-1 can crash Cakewalk so it only used to open midi files and preview. But I hope you have your answers to the original question now and can get you projects saved in proper folders . But I don’t see why you would need to have any audio in the first place. Freezing instruments is only something you do with supper large projects to save CPU. Read the info on my blog I posted in my last reply for details on this. I haven’t added the info about using the playlist yet. One last question. Is there a reason you need multi track playback. Can you not use just a stereo or split mono playback?
  8. As said by @OutrageProductions always use per project folders if there will be any audio in the projects. Never use a global audio folder this seems to always ends up with orphaned tracks.. You can take projects that are using a global audio folder and make them per project folders easily. Open the project and then using “save as” and checking the “ copy audio with project “ box. Save the project in a new location and possibly rename it too. Now the project will be in its own folder and the audio folder will also be inside that folder. But this is not necessary if there is no audio in a project. freezing a midi track only temporary saves the audio. Open the project audio folder. Now freeze the synth. You will see the new audio file created in the audio folder. Now unfreeze the synth and the audio files disappear. Even if you save and close the project that audio file is only there when synth is frozen. I would not freeze the midi any how as CWP projects with no audio are almost bulletproof for me. And they are very small file size. They are similar to a pure midi file but CWP also loads all the other goodies like effects and instruments. I have over 200 backing track CWP files and never had any issues at all for years and years. So I'm not sure why you had issues in the past. My first guess would be there were misbehaving VST instruments used. I was careful about my choice of instruments. I only used ones that seemed CPU friendly and avoid huge samples needing loading. So instead of freezing what might have worked was evaluate why a project caused an issue. If you want samples of my Backing tracks I have shared them freely on my web page https://sites.google.com/view/cactus-studios/cakewalk-backing-tracks Also why are you having to create new versions to create new set lists?? Are you using Cakewalks Playlist? You don't need to have different files to use Playlist. You just choose your files and save each set list you can re order playlists as well and re name. Very quick and easy.
  9. Perhaps this might explain a few things that might help
  10. Actually if you have installed the proper midi driver from Yamaha it should work. I find generic midi drivers can’t be used after Cakewalk is open. But for me my Roland and Yamaha devices both have supplied midi drivers and both can be turned on with Cakewalk running. It just asks me if I want to use the device. I then might have to make sure it is checked in preferences/ midi/ devices It’s not a issue generally because my controller is USB powered and it’s always connected.
  11. I just downloaded 36 free delay based effects from https://plugins4free.com/ There was a bunch I didn't download only because the GUI were just a little bit too simple, which I know is not a valid complaint, but they also got negative reviews. Not that many of the reviews on the site are worth reading either. But I felt these are probably the better ones any how. So now I will install them to my office computer and start testing and making notes. Here's a basic outline of what I will do. Anything I'm missing please do comment. 1. Easy to install 2.Manual 3.Easy to use as basic Delay = Time, Feedback and Wet/dry 4.Sync 5. Readout for time ( ms) if sync is off. 6.Analog toggle, in other words option to choose clean or harmonic content. 7.Midi learn for controls 8.Special features - multi tap, reverse, LFO etc. 9. Hi or lo pass filters 10.CPU hog or friendly , not sure how to test this yet, ideas? And I know there's more out there so I'll keep looking but any input is welcome. The one I did on compressors took me 2 months. https://youtu.be/PLBxSGozIwo Here's what my download folder has. I even re down loaded ones I already have so I can keep an alphabetical list somehow. I think there's a few reverbs I grabbed in here as well for my next project free reverbs.
  12. Possibly in the project where it is not working you have a lot of plug ins active and this might strain your CPU which would result in your graphics not working correctly if the graphics are on the MoBo. Try bypassing all effects while you record.
  13. This is the best insight here: Reading carefully what the OP said is that they are finally being forced to move on from Sonar 2.2. They were trying to install an X3 patch but cannot get at their account. ( You just contact support at the top of the page here) The obvious cognitive mistake here is why bother with x3 then? Cakewalk by Bandlab is essentially X3. It just has a zillion improvements, mostly bug fixes, as well as a few highly useful new features. The OP is asking for a kind of lame update ( I have it on file) that fixed possibly less than 1% of Sonars bugs when they can actually fix 99.7% of them. CbB is the latest update to X3.
  14. Not sure why you are calling it latency? What is important is-- can that computer play a large project at lower buffer settings. If it can't, then you need to increase the buffers which of course increases the latency. A DAW that is stuttering is suffering from either too low a buffer setting or something is running in the background creating DPC issues. run this to check. https://www.resplendence.com/latencymon Other common issues can be a plug in having trouble accessing a library An incompatible Plug in The internet is running something. Graphic card issues. Interface ASIO driver not up to date or user not using ASIO.
  15. Yes. Open the track pane on the right and then from views select show audio tracks. You can now solo or mute any track in the project.
  16. I'm not sure what you are after? Bypass is essentially just that, an on/ off switch. This is why plug ins don't have on/ off switches, they would be redundant. What exactly are you trying to do and with which plug ins? Mabey that would shed some light on your question.
  17. I had to laugh at the threads title. The metronome is actually of good enough quality to be used as a percussion instrument. I just recorded a song called "Time Slips Away" I rarely use the metronome but this was one of those songs that started with a riff in my head and a lyrical concept so I just opened my song writing template and plugged in an acoustic guitar and recorded at the default tempo of 120 using the metronome. For song ideas I'm not picky about details like tempo, I just want it down on tape before I forget. I start building with midi. Bass, Drums and keyboards, that old metronome was still going even after I did the drums. It's turned down and I sort of didn't notice it. The song came along fast and was sounding great. Oh, better shut off the metronome. Hey, just a minute,,, it sounded like a clock ticking and was at 120 BPM! A song about time! 120BPM? The tick- tock sound was close but I went into the settings and found exactly what sounded more like a clock ticking. Now I need this as an audio track Hmm??. How the heck do you do that again? I actually had to watch my own tutorial about how to record the metronome because it's not a thing I ever needed to do. And it's tricky stuff. Anyhow I got my metronome recorded as a nice fresh audio track. automated the track so it comes and goes. So there it is, your terrible sounding metronome as a very important part of the song. I think it actually saved the song from mediocrity. @Miquel Cañizares Here's my tutorial regarding the metronome. https://youtu.be/fRkb5cUHs1A it will also show you how to change the count in. And if you have something wrong with your audio set up. watch this https://youtu.be/JM8rKHQ9GIo
  18. I remember trying a few of his plug ins a few years ago, the Bagpipes where very intriguing. Can't remember why but just looking now I only find one remaining plug in from him. The Sim-Sheng. I know I had a few more but I think I deleted them as I'm not in the habit of using any plug ins that cause me grief of any sort. But the Sim-Sheng seems to work and I had no trouble freezing it. Instead of Bounce to tracks did you try to export that track as a stem. Highlight the track, open advanced export and choose Tracks from the pre set menu. Make sure that track is checked. Choose your projects sample rate ( 44.1 or 48) and 32 bit and no dither. make sure to choose time settings as entire project and export. This will create a stem. When the export location toast in the lower right appears, open it and drag the stem to an empty place in track pane.
  19. @SoundIT Will won't actually know your asking him a question unless you tag him like I just did you or you can send him a PM. He hasn't logged on since Feb 10 so not a regular. But my answer would be that Cakewalk is a terrible environment for working with Videos. It works fine if you only need a rough video to score music to but it was never intended to be a video editor of any sort. I worked with a few Video editors trying them out and settled on Movie Maker pro ( Sony Vegas) and it has not only the video editing but can handle a lot of audio editing as well. I can use 3rd party VST effects as well as open audio tracks in a wave editor from within the software. ( Like Cakewalks Tool menu) You can also automate, copy paste etc. Sort of all that is missing is Midi. It's not a DAW but a lot of functions are present in a basic form. Everyone I know works in the Movie editing software using audio they created using a DAW. You export a MP4 drop it in your DAW and do the Music and narration editing using the movie as a guide. Export the audio as stems and drop those back into the Video editor to carry on with syncing and fine tuning. My editor can have I think 20 tracks of audio, Not sure. The more you pay the more you get. So not sure what your workflow is and there's a few of us here who do work with video. I'm really a ultra beginner and my expertise is limited but I found it super helpful to take the time to get out there and watch a lot of tutorials and see how it's done. Da Vinci resolve is very popular and it's free. I liked Vegas only because it seemed simple and it's audio portion has deep roots in Sony's Sound Forge. It's like Home studio was when I was learning Cakewalk.
  20. Google "Using Cakewalks Audio snap" there are lots of tutorials on what you are asking about and it's a very complicated topic. Here's the official documentation https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=AudioSnap.05.html
  21. Absolutely. Just activate the Automation write and see if the Bypass toggle has a red box. It should be by default. You're ready to automate. If it doesn't then right click the effect in the rack which opens this Click on the Write Enabled Parameters And the Bypass should now be highlighted The easy part of automation is just turn it on for the track and go exploring. Anything that can be automated will be highlighted in red. And once you have made any moves at all, an automation lane will be created. Open the automation lane and there you can manually enter as needed. No need to play the track in real time.
  22. Installed the Tungsten and it's a keeper. Did exactly what I wanted without fuss. I'm just working on a new video that will feature as many delays as I can round up. Looks like it might be 30 plus free delays. I always start here https://plugins4free.com/search?term=delay Here's an example of my script so far. https://www.nembriniaudio.com/products/analog-rack-delay Analog Ranch Delay. By Nembrini audio. Basic delay super easy to use. Add ons include the Offset control and Analog switch. Offset Creates a time offset in left/right delay sections. Analog is found on most of their plug ins and it removes harmonics when turned off for a cleaner sound. Personally I like it on. It has sync. And like most of the better ones there are read out for the time in ms when you turn off sync, Manual is built in via a menu item. https://plugins4free.com/plugin/3502/ AmDelay ( Figure this would be perfect for @Bapu ) No sync but great quality It would be a keeper if it at least had a reading for the Time control. Sort of like using old school analog stomp box delay. Good sound quality overall especially for lead guitar. No manual but web page has some info and a video.
  23. Perfect timing. I really need to find a replacement for the Sonitus delay so I’m on the hunt starting with my favourite type of plug ins. Free or dirt cheap. So far the ones that sound the best don’t have sync. Then the ones with sync don’t have the controls I need like the Sonitus has. These look like they came from the set of Carnival Row. Cool.
