I have abandoned all the Bandlab owned products and have installed the very last version of Platinum using the CCC. No more problems with authorization and I can still open all my projects. I get a warning about missing features but once it is saved they go away. A lot of people have moved to other Daw’s now mainly because like me , they can’t trust Bandlab to maintain software that we will have unobstructed access to. So Platinum is the only choice for now just to always have access to my old projects. All new projects are started in Daw’s I have unobstructed access to for the foreseeable future. Biggest bummer is Platinum is still controlled by Bandlab because they have control of the Command Centre. But then there’s X3.

A few years ago I had an office computer that I had built myself. It was in a guest room and company would say that it would all of a sudden turn on which would wake them up due to the light from the screen. It was a mystery because I always totally shut it down. I had to turn off the power supply. Anyhow it was a faulty power button. It was sort of sticking in the case hole. So I would definitely do as advised and go over the hardware. Blow it out and check every single connection!

Why would anyone put any of their hard work into software they can’t even trust? Move on people. It’s a sinking ship.

As time moves forward we will see more Midi 2 devices and then ARM? But the problem is a lot of us have cool old midi hardware that refuses to die. I have 3 pieces made in the 80’s that are totally fine. It’s too bad my old Roland A 880 midi patch bay was damaged as Im sure it would still work fine and it didn’t need no stinking drivers. 8 in 8 out and you could control the routing with midi patch changes or system exclusive. They just don’t seem to make that gear anymore. My solution for midi output is a little box I made myself from Radio Shack parts. 4 midi ports and little micro switches. All hardwired. I also made a 3 port one which is the one I still use because my controller is now USB. It’s not a merger so I can only choose one device at a time. If I want both I daisy chain. But I for sure need that my audio interface has a midi output.

Basically no. Cakewalk was replaced with Sonar a few years ago and Sonar was a step backwards for custom colours. It was released with very limited options.

This is a longtime problem with on board audio that when you make any changes ( unplugged the headphones Jack) Cakewalk defaults to “None” on the master buss. I’ve seen 3 pages of troubleshooting advice including re installing the software before someone mentions this. Good advice @mettelus

Seeing as how people keep digging up this thread I think I better set some info straight. First, Im the OP. I had to change my username to get the discount Bandlab Membership deal. They locked me , John Vere, out of the discount saying it was only for new members not loyal long time users. So I became Sock Monkey. The op is actually Sock Monkey but the Mods deleted me one day with no explanation as to why? That’s why it says Guest. Sock Monkey still has a Bandlab membership good until July 16. So I can’t edit this thread to explain what I actually discovered was the reason for the crashing. The short answer is it had nothing to do with old versions of Sonar. It turns out that any project that had been opened and saved in a particular version of CbB from fall 2023 and had Pro Channel modules added would be causing the crash. It was actually some weird bug in that particular version of CbB Pro Channel system. I no longer use Sonar for this reason. I basically can’t open most of my projects in the new Sonar. They only open in Safe mode. No loss as I feel Sonar is sadly fading away anyway and it’s a good time to move on. I only have Sonar Platinum installed now for the times I need to open CWP files. It’s dependable and doesn’t require authorization once installed. if Sonar is still around in a few years and it becomes available for purchase I’ll definitely consider that option.

It’s why everyone has moved on to normal software that you own. It’s the saddest thing that ever happened to a product we all know and loved. But all good things often come to an end.

Yes that is what I was thinking about too. The bass and drums in this box. As you said it is already available on a $50 Casio keyboard but then how to connect it to a Guitar. I just saw a guy playing solo at the Farmers Market and he was using a harmonizer and an old vintage suitcase was his kick drum. It added some low end and I thought he sounded really good. The vintage suitcase gave it a Lo Tech look. He was sitting down however and I prefer to stand. So that concept would have me falling over!

I was trying to be polite so sorry if it comes across rude. Im very very old and being truthful about things sometimes seems rude. My point is it is really easy to get answers to questions now if you simply type them into Google Search. You would be shown the AI quick answer as well as a list of a lot of different tutorials. Often the forum also will be in the results. I speak from experience because over all of last year I tried a lot of different Daw’s. I learned how to do all the basic stuff in only a few hours. Some Daw’s are very intuitive and easy to, some are not. Cakewalk/Sonar is possibly the hardest to learn out of the majority of Daw’s commonly available. And sadly they have not made any official videos for almost 10 years now. So be patient with seeking out the ones that are good for your style of learning. Many are terrible because they are amateur presentations. But text based answers work best for me so I just look things up. Example of a question “How do you insert an Instrument track in Cubase?” would result in a brief explanation and a bunch of videos I could watch. I would have my answer almost instantly. In my experience asking these questions on a user forum is the slowest way to learn. So if you find that rude so be it. Only trying to offer advice on how to go about learning how to use software.

For all Daw’s and any software the first thing I do after installing it is go into preferences/settings and make sure to set a default folder that is on my Data drive for saving projects/movies/documents etc. Never let software use a default file location because it will be in C drive and usually hides deep down in User data somewhere where you will have trouble finding it. This takes 2 seconds to set up and then you will know where your stuff is stored. On my Data drive I have a separate folder for each Daw and all the software that I use.

If Cakewalk seems to have all the correct settings in preferences and you’re getting audio glitches it would theoretically be impossible for any other software to be causing the issue especially if it is not running. The Magix driver is a well known issue but you apparently don’t have it installed so that is not the problem. Audio glitches are caused by the audio driver and Windows struggling to process audio smoothly. This can be other processes running in the background, Plug ins , CPU not being optimized etc. Run the Resplendent Latency Monitor to see if you have system issues. Reboot your Interface if it happens. My Motu will glitch out if it’s been running for a long time. I have to restart my computer. FYI my settings. Motu ASIO 48/24 buffer 256. I bypass all effects when tracking both midi and audio. If a certain synths is known to cause issues I freeze it.

I have used both Vegas and Cakewalk together for at least 6 years now. I was making tutorials so I needed to run Cakewalk in ASIO mode. At first I was using a Focusrite interface and I couldn’t figure out how to do this. The solution was I bought the Motu M4 which had loopback so I could do screen capture etc and stay in ASIO mode. The other important thing I found was set everything in my audio system to use 48 clock rate. Windows, Daw’s and Vegas. All set to 48. OBS studio and Vegas allows you to use ASIO and set your interface as default audio device. You need to go into settings/ preferences and select this. I have never had issues with using that set up. But I had quickly upgraded to Vegas pro studio from Movie Maker way back when because of way too many issues with Movie Maker. Crashes and freezing up all the time. Vegas seems rock solid. I was lucky and got it cheap as an upgrade. Not sure what the deal is now. There’s also Devinci Resolve free. But I prefer Vegas because it uses the DX plug-in’s like the Sonitus compressor. I also like the way I can open the audio in Sony Sound forge. The comment about the Magix ASIO driver is typically it gets installed with the software. I think not with the Video editor but with Sound Forge or the Music Maker software. If you open Preferences/ Audio/ Sync and Caching and your Motu shows as the default device for latency you are good to go.

Backing tracks you made yourself are a far stretch from Karaoke. It is a true one man band. Karaoke is a full band and backing vocals and often has no solid beat. My tracks are Drums, me playing bass and then some keyboards or horns if needed. The bass and drums are tight and mixed to be punchy and get people dancing. I also have to be very together with my guitar playing. My singing and guitar playing are what is upfront. Nobody generally notices that I use tracks. The videos may seem like Karaoke but they are really just my digital song book similar to using OnSong. Bass is important for dancing. Are you playing at dances? If what you’re doing is just coffee house gigs then just play your guitar with a boost on the EQ around 300-400hz. Don’t get me wrong as I really like your idea and yes all the technology is sort of there but these days the focus is on making music with electronics and it is all synchronized using a laptop, synths and drum machines. Keyboards make ideal interfaces because they output digital data but with a guitar you first need to convert the audio to midi data. Your drum machine would need to be synchronized to whatever creates the bass.

Did you try Save As?

Basically real time pitch shifting will have the lowest audio quality. For best quality you need powerful processing and time for it to do its work. And the more complex the audio the harder it is to change the pitch with out artifacts. Look into DJ software for real time pitch and tempo shifting. They do it better than any Daw can. Possibly Ableton has this. But I think the one I used was called Virtual DJ.

Check. Ya Im old school. I learned punching in on tape. Later when I got the Yamaha MD8 digital recorder I had the ability to set automatic punch in and out. I really never took to this chomping thing. If I make a mistake I fix it. If I don’t like a take I delete it. Tape workflow for sure. Automatic punch in might be old school but it’s my preference and it works better for me than recording a bunch of sloppy stuff and then spending hours sorting through it. Trouble is a lot of these new Daw’s are now optimized for copy pasted content and not real recording anymore. Probably why I was the first ( possibly the last) one to use Cakewalk Next in a traditional way so discovered that it was busted.

Well Cakewalk Next is miles apart from Sonar but what you described is exactly what was happening to me. To prove the bug I recorded myself saying the count alongside the metronome. You could visually see that when I said “1” that it recorded were 9 belonged. And I also tested Next a few times as I found the bug in early Dec 2023 and they released a few updates into 2024. It took 3 months to get a reply from support thanking me and saying that it was easily reproduced. I found it very odd that I was the only one who noticed such a huge bug. But your issue seems like nobody else has the problem? I personally don’t think it’s an audio driver problem because at worst it would only be a few milliseconds out. Sorry I no longer have Sonar installed so can’t try and reproduce the problem. Perhaps a detailed description of what hardware you are using and if you have any mastering effects in place.

What is interesting is this was a bug I reported but it was with Cakewalk Next? Punch ins were about 2 measures late. They fixed it eventually but it took submitting 3 videos over a few months to finally get attention. This was When it was first released as a beta version.

Anyone who has to come on a user forum to ask how to use software that has a complete users manual built in and literally hundreds of free tutorials on you tube is obviously out of touch with how things work! Simply Google your questions and you’ll get 500 pages of instructions and answers. The forum is handy when that somehow fails to answer tricky questions but regular users get pretty bored by trying to answer questions that are searched for “How do I turn on a lightbulb “? So you will be directed to RTFM . So I apologize on behalf of the internet for not supplying you with a detailed explanation of the question. The AI.

Anytime you install software from Magix or Steinberg you end up with their Generic ASIO drivers which only seem to cause problems with Cakewalk/ Sonar. Other Daw’s ignore them. For some reason they take over the Latency adjustment in Sync and Caching. It just a Sonar bug.

My guess would be that Magix generic audio driver was involved. I ran version 13 for years without issues other than that version crashing a lot. Re install MM 13 and then open the RegEdit app and go to Software ASIO and look for the Magix driver. Delete it. It is a well documented problem.
