I play folk/ bluegrass style in a duo and we use backing tracks for bass. We only need the bass which we run to a bass amp. But I still use a simple drum track which I much prefer over a click track we run this to our monitors. To export the track in Cakewalk It’s a very simple matter of setting up 2 busses that feed the Master buss. One is panned left the other right. This is commonly called a Split Track. So all we need is a stereo wave file. At the gig I use a little notebook running WinAmp for playback I can use the laptops audio out, an interface or in our case our mixer is a USB interface All work equally well. If using the 1/8 audio out I have a special cable that Y’s to the mixer and the bass amp. With the USB mixer I don’t have the option of splitting the bass so I have to pan the USB channel In the mains to eliminate the Drums. I send both to the floor wedge using the pre fader option of the aux send But you really only need a stereo wave file for backing tracks

Focusrite Solo guitar problem with Cakewalk
John Vere replied to Count Vlad's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Who told you to use MME? I have a friend I set up with a Solo and it works 100% with Cakewalk and ASIO driver. Focusrite has a good ASIO driver and if your not using it your tracks will overdub out of sync. It's not a "known issue" to most. Contact Focusrite if you think otherwise. They used to be real good at answering questions. MME is the oldest and worst driver you would choose. Latency will be out the window. MME works with MIDI only. -
I'm curious as I was looking at that interface as a possible upgrade to my collection which are getting very outdated. Is the ASIO driver not functioning properly? They are sort of new to the game and often companies don't put enough development into the driver resulting in issues. RME, Motu, Focusrite and Tascam seem to be companies that seems to put a lot of development into drivers.

Yes for sure I most always freeze a track. I found it interesting that this seems to work for playback on the computer that, in my case, does not have authorization for XLN and Air VST's which I use a lot of. The tracks play just fine but you cannot easily edit them on that machine.

The reason I asked is that for hassle free recording with any DAW an Audio Interface is almost mandatory. On Board audio is for watching movies and playing games.

There's some confusion it what yours saying so I'll just go through the "how to record in stereo." You plug the left and right audio cables into Channel 1 and channel 2 of your interface and set the levels. In Cakewalk you insert a new audio track and you choose the Solid state Logic ASIO stereo driver 1 as the input. This combines the Left and right into a stereo track. The way some people do this is they insert 2 new audio tracks and choose Left SSL ASIO Driver 1 for 1 track and the Right SSL ASIO driver 1 for the other. This gives you more options for processing the signals and mixing. Example placing the instrument in the stereo field.

A huge help is to print off the keyboard shortcuts and hang it on the wall. Often weird stuff happens because you have punched a wrong key

Wow pretty rare to have threads like this these days. I’ll only say one thing. Disable the internet. This always seems to work for me

Do you have an audio interface?

There are a few reasons other than cpu usage to render a midi track to audio. one important reason is you may not have that VST in the future. another reason I will freeze or bounce is I only can have two computers authorized for certain VST’s so if I need to use a 3rd computer this solves the problem.

2- use the W to activate track automation and use the track inspectors pan control. The TTS-1 is a GM Player so is happy to accept midi system exclusive and cc commands. Most other VST are not. You treat them as any Other audio track

https://help.cakewalk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360036997613-Keyboard-Shortcuts Look under Transport shortcuts. I don't know what is different in your settings but when I click anywhere during playback the now time jumps there but only backwards. Doesn't seem to work for ahead. But then I use CTRL_W to toggle the rewind to stop in place . I always have one hand on the spacebar and the other on the mouse so if I hit the spacebar the song stops and I can click ahead. Just used to it without even realizing I do it that way. I didn't realize you COULD click ahead using the timeline, thanks for pointing that out,, a new trick.

https://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-audio/tascam-us-16x08-usb-audio-interface I've had my us1641 for a long long time and it still works great when I need 16 inputs or just 2. The 16x 08 would seem to be the newer model. Not the most stellar performer but still might be the best bang for the buck when you need a lot of inputs.

Focusrite Solo guitar problem with Cakewalk
John Vere replied to Count Vlad's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
https://customer.focusrite.com/en/getstarted/benefits It's a bit odd that people come here to complain when it's a simple matter of following very clear instructions. Always use ASIO with any audio interface. There is no other option that will give you proper results. -
Good ''phones for Mixing around $100?
John Vere replied to Michael McBroom's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
https://www.long-mcquade.com/95877/Pro-Audio---Recording/Headphones/Apex-Electronics/Apex-Closed-Deluxe-Studio-Headphone.htm I have the older Apex HP60 but I think they are the same, they must be 20 years old and possibly the only set of phones that survived my active recordings days. That's because I never let clients use them But of all the name brands I have and still have these are still the most accurate phones I use. A perfect match to my NMS10's. I'm going to grab a set of the HP 70's now you got me thinking about this topic. It would be the same as when my NMS10's die I'll be lost without them and not looking forward to the quest to replace them. -
What's the recommended TTS-1 setup for MIDI-only musics?
John Vere replied to Wattana Gaming's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
The Tts1 can and will play all 16 channels without a problem. If your goal is making GM midi files to share on line then it’s a great tool. But if you’re goal is to make backing tracks for live performance or an album of your playing and singing then you should move up to the many higher quality vst’s just changing over to the Studio Instrument collection is a huge jump in fidelity. there’s many free vst’s available from places like Plugin Boutique but Cakewalk comes with a good collection. The Tts1 is really a GM player and tech from the 80’s. I think it only 8 bit sound. Now we mostly have sample based vst’s. -
Need help recording audio from synth to Cakewalk
John Vere replied to tdehan's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I too keep my Korg 05/RW hooked up. I like a lot of the patches and every once in a while just play it for fun. Inspiring sounds. im glad you explained your mission. There are stubborn people who keep old tech around and miss out on what’s available now. -
Or best bang for the buck would be a audio interface with midi
-
My humble creations sound just fine to me and everyone else at 16. I’d use 24 at max. it’s all about the talent and the song. Not the technology

I keep projects in folders sort of like an album. The are either band names, client names or things like backing tracks and Originals. These are also always dated in the file name. “ Orginals 2016”. all folders start life on my working data drive as time goes by I have probably backed them up a few times to at least 2 or 3 external drives. i never delete anything. Why bother storage is cheap. I only use save as to copy a project to a different local folder. For song variations I use mix recall.

Need help recording audio from synth to Cakewalk
John Vere replied to tdehan's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
+ 1 to what John is saying. You have to really be 100% set on the sounds of the Yamaha to go to that sort of trouble. I would imagine most are easily duplicated by VST soft synths.
