On the back are the 1/4" TRS outputs that connect to either your powered studio monitors or in my case a Stereo Amp which drives my passive monitors. The big knob on the front controls the studio monitors level If you don't have a set of studio monitors put that high on your wish list You can use computer speakers in a pinch but you would need to plug them into the headphone jack of the Scarlett or purchase a special Y splitter cable. Just so you know, you cannot use your computers sound card at the same time as the Interface, all audio will come through the 2i2. Make sure to use the direct monitoring feature so you will hear your input without latency.

Thanks for listening and enjoying.

A follow up= Was playing with the Steven Slate drums last night and had to give up on it as it just doesn't cut through. I'll have the VST level meter in the red and the level is way below other drum VST's. I tried turning all the parts and the faders for the Room and Overhead but it seems to make no difference and just made the output level redder. Used the Replace synth feature to return to Addictive drums and there was a huge difference. Loud and level meter is within the safe levels.. So much for that.

Oh details.. It's only a 7 track song. 1.Yamaha bass via Fender rumble/ Tone Bone DI 2.Addictive drums heavily edited and Compressed to death. Played on my keyboards. 3 and 4 - Vocals only have the Pro Channel Compressor and a delay and Reverb send. 5 Guitar is my Blackstar via SM 57 6 Then I added the DB33 (Air) organ 7 And my good old standby the Mr Tramp Wurly. I dream of this becoming 64 bit someday. On the master I'm trying out and impressed by the ik media Brick wall limiter. |I'm also using their Meters and the limiter does it's job perfectly, I found out that my standby the BT Brickwall does not actually put out what it is set to do,, bummer.

https://soundclick.com/r/s8eyef I always would return to this song when in the mood for noodling a lick. I think the album was 1968. Anyways I' did this from memory as far as the arrangement goes, I don't think it's even close and as I refuse to listen to the original as it might spoil all my fun.

Can Cakewalk work with onboard Realtec audio?
John Vere replied to gmp's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
All he wants to do is to import my stereo music track and record a few vocals. So therefore my original answer was a simple no. I have a lot of audio equipment and cables kicking around but other than using some sort of audio interface ( and ya I guess a USB mike will sort of qualify) I don't see an easy way to take any mike I own and plug it into a 1/8" jack?? Come on now guys, under $50 and problem is solved. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/UM2usb--behringer-u-phoria-um2-usb-audio-interface And at no point did I say you cannot do a lot with on board sound, Just overdubbing vocals, guitar etc is not going to work well without ASIO drivers and a proper connecting device. -
Sorry if you somehow can read into text a condescending tone?? that's pretty intuitive. Didn't intend that as that's rude and I am not a rude person. Did you try changing the smart tool to an eraser tool? That most certainly will erase parts of tracks. I just tried this to confirm it works. I don't think the multipurpose smart tool becomes an eraser in track view. I cannot get that to happen. It works in PVR. But if I click on the eraser icon it works as expected.

OK that would be cool because it's often months before I get around to trying demos. So sounds like If I don't open them they will still work later on for the 9 day period> Then you wait around for deals on the ones you like. I'm still exploring better ways to master from within Cakewalk. I still depend on Wavelab because I can work faster and more precisely.
-
Got this T-racks installed, was a lot of hoops and 1.7 GB?? oh well but the meter seems to work great the rest of the stuff is a 9 day demo? Not clear what you get for free at this point but will dig around.

Thanks for the tip about T-Racks, Just downloading now. Seems like a good Mastering tool.

Can Cakewalk work with onboard Realtec audio?
John Vere replied to gmp's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
OK so you all heard it right here , No need to waist money on a Audio interface anymore folks. We just go buy a $5 adaptor that plugs into the 1/8" mike jack on the laptop and the quality will be as good as any snobby Neve pre amp, We can use all the free VST stuff to polish that ol' turd up nice. Sure if your dead broke and just want to have some fun making some music there's no limit on what you can do for free. I guess we all have our standards on what we consider basic gear and to me an audio interface is just that, basic gear. -
That's a bit risky to trust an automated algorithm to master your songs. This is why Mastering is so important. And one of the tasks during mastering is setting the average RMS level. Peak level is next to useless as that only shows the loudest transient. Average RMS or LUFS tells you the actual loudness of the entire song. I use a free trial version called YouLearn Loudness Meter https://youlean.co/youlean-loudness-meter/ and put it last in the effects chain of my master Buss. It has presets for standards set by different formats. I also Master with Wave Lab Elements which has a Global Analyzer which gives the results for the whole song. The end result is once you know how "loud" a song is you can either turn it down ( rare) or slap a compressor / limiter in the master buss and push it a little. I'm using a combo of the LP Multi band and the BT Brickwall which good results so far. You have to sometimes go all the way back to your tracks and put a lid on all overs and loud transients at that level. But Mastering is as important as the Tracking and Mixing to having a good output. In the old days these were often 3 different professions and people and for the most part they were specialists at there jobs. Tracking- Producer, Tape op and Recording engineer. Mixing- Producer, Tape op and Recording Engineer Mastering- Mastering Engineer, Lathe operators

Can Cakewalk work with onboard Realtec audio?
John Vere replied to gmp's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
The problem with using on board is when it comes to overdubbing to existing tracks they will not sync up properly. And even if you manage to get to sync by using manual offset that might not stay in sync either. I have tested this myself a few years ago while trying to get a laptop I had to work without an Audio Interface. I tried WASAPI mode and even Asio4all. They work great for just editing and using midi but when you try to overdub an audio track it's off sync. Best your friend grabs something like the Focusrite Solo or ? that comes with proper ASIO drivers. And forget USB mikes they also don't work properly with Cakewalk big waste of money for music production, fine for podcasting. Use a proper mike and a proper interface. And the sound chip on a laptop is worth about $10. So ya the quality sucks big time. Noise and all sorts of issues. -
If it was an audio track yes if it is midi track no. Those are embedded in the CWP file. if you know which VST is crashing and you know the VST folder it is in you can simply Delete the .dll then when you open the project it won’t crash it will just tell you the VST is unavailable. I avoid sketchy free vst’s just for this reason.

There might be a volume cc event look in the event list or pvr just a little tip for those looking for a better free drum VST. Get the Steven Slate demo kit for free I just found out about this deal today on another thread similar to this one and it’s a very advanced VST for free. Blows away SI and Power

I'm not clear on what version comes free with Bandlab Cakewalk, but I have the Melodyne 5 Essentials and it just updated to 5.0.2.003. It was the one that came free with Sonar I guess. Is the one that comes with CbB Essentials?
-
With the old Sonar it will be in your Command Center. But it's also easy to instal via the Assistant under the install add ons option
-
I have the MT drums and in a way it's a step down from the SI drums. And it begs for money every time you open the GUI.
-
Simply solo each VST until you find the one with the tick. There are demo versions of VST's that add intermittent noise while you demo them.
-
Thanks for that Kevin- Just got it up and running and it's pretty impressive. Not sure how much is disabled in the GUI yet but seems very in depth and lots of kit piece choices. The default sounds great and is very close to my idea of what drums should sound like. Only bummer is there's no effects like compression and reverb. Not a problem as I can just insert it with multi outputs and use Pro channel. Hopefully the OP see's this one as it certainly a step up from SI drums. So I scored 3 freebies from this thread!
-
Process of elimination. Start with a fresh project and see if the noise is there. If not then it's something, likely a plug in, in the problem project.

Floating Windows Question --> Multidock
John Vere replied to Astraios's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I'm not sure what you mean when you say " compare to other floating windows (piano-roll or console) " Those are both part of the Multi dock. You end up with tabs for each of the views you have chosen to have available. That is the multi dock. And then you can undock it from it's default at the bottom and toss it on a second monitor if you have one. If not you just pop it up and down. You can save this all as a workspace so Cakewalk remembers how you like things to look ( most times) -
Looking for a sample project to study (midi)
John Vere replied to Gary Freedman's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Possibly the demo projects are from the Splat days via CCC. I know I never installed them. My Start screen doesn't have any demos and I think that is why.
