Using the Poise & UVI workstation vst crashes CakeWalk..Help!

Hi everyone!

I have a weird issue.

When I load a instance of Poise and UVI workstation (Which had a free give away for 1 day) vst together in one session, it crashes CakeWalk when pressing play.
Weirdly enough it doesn't crash when the play head is not at the beginning when pressing play.
But when I save the project and want to start it up, Cakewalk crashes on startup.

Using the both vst's sepperatly work just fine without any crashe, and am also able to save and re-open a project with no problem.
I also updated CakeWalk to the latest version (apparently the last free version update), but stil crashes when loading both vst's.

I found out that when I disable ASIO sound drivers it does not crash.
I use Fl studio's ASIO driver btw sinds it enables you hear audio of multiple programs while mantaining the ASIO low latency capebilities.

In FL studio and Studio One I can use both vst's in the same project without any problems. No crashes, saves and re-open without any problem.

At the moment I'm trying out MPC beats as an alternative for poise in CakeWalk....which is AWESOME!...but...not possible to load more then 1 MPC Beats instance as a VST.
Which is a mayor drawback for me.

Can Serato studio free be used as a vst?

Any suggestions anyone?

PC Specs please  - See my signature for the stuff required.

Hi, I updated my signature, hope this helps with a suggestion for my problem.

Also, I see you also use the UVI Workstation.
Could you please install the Poise plugin on your system and see what happens when you load both Poise and UVI vst's in one project and see if you can play from the start and save/open that project without cakeWalk crashing?

The FL "ASIO" driver is known problematic. Uninstall it.

Fortunately for me the FL Asio drivers work just fine.

I also tried the original Asio drives but with no luck. I even re-installed Cakewalk itself. If there's no other suggestions I think i may have to doing a clean windows installation of the my whole system.

It even crashes when I use my systems default sound driver, Realtek...driver.

Not only is that another garbage driver, it just might be the worst of all.

If you don't have a proper audio interface with a proper ASIO driver then you need to switch to WA.SAPI

STOP! STOP!

You're not going to fix anything by taking random, drastic shots in the dark. You might even make things worse.

Your problem is that you are trying to use garbage drivers known not to work with Cakewalk.

@Byron Dickens
I switched to every Playback/Record Timing master, nothing helped.

I know changing settings can sometimes mess-up stuff. But I wouldn't say that changing sound drivers is that drastic though.

I also have the Focusrite 2i2 2nd generator external sound card.
Using its original ASIO driver didn't work either.

The reason I prefer the FL studio ASIO drivers (which up till now worked just fine for me without any issues) is that I want to be able to lookup youtube tutorial videos on whatever I need at the moment (vst's, mixing tips, how to achieve something in CakeWalk etc.). Except for the FL/Flex ASIO drivers (Flex ASIO did give me some issues with some VST's btw), ASIO drivers can't stream multiple sound sources at once.
I plan to use the Focusrite soundcard only for Mix/Mastering. other than that I need to be flexible (I don't have separate monitoring speakers...yet).

It's a good informational video. Thanx!
Unfortunately this won't help.

To be clear everything works just fine. Except for when I use both Poise and UVI-workstation in 1 project, the it crashes.
I think my only hope is to re-install my whole system (haven't done this in like 4 years...system has been running smoothly all these years) hopefully this will help

I installed Poise and here are my results

If I load an instance of poise as a SIT (Simple Instrument Track) in Track 1, Cakewalk by Bandlab drops me to desktop as soon as I load an instance of UVIWorkstation as a SIT (via a track template or not).  This happens with VST2 or VST3 version of UVIWorkstation.  I am using the latest UVIWorkstation.

However, if I load UVIWorkstation in track 1 (i.e first), then load poise in track 2, this works fine.

I then preceded to load UVI Percussion factory into UVIWorkstation and create a small beat.  I filled 8 measures of track 1 with the MIDI data required to generate the same beat in Percussion factory.

I then created another beat in track 2.  This was to be played with Poise.

One this was programmed I was able to play both beats simultaneously.

The takeaway and workaround.  Load UVIWorkstation first, then poise.

As has been mentioned, use the native Focusrite driver.  The Fl studio's ASIO driver is simply a wrapper and not a true ASIO driver.

Thanx for taking the time!

I think I've tried loading 1st one of the vst's then the other and vesa versa.
But I'll give it a go. At least now I know that some how these 2 vst's cause isues when working together, and that it's not just my system.
For now my wok around would be to use MPC Beats as a vst when using UVI workstation.

Did you try saving the project and re-opening it again?
Might stil possibley be that it won't work. Making it useless to work with these 2 vst's together.

Actually, that’s one thing I didn't try.  I did save the project while it was working just in case.

However, I forgot to do the reload of the working project.  Sadly, doing that that crashed CbB to the desktop.

My advise is that Poise is baldly written and to ditch Poise and use MPC Beats instead.

I have uninstalled Poise.

Thanx for taking the time to check this out for me!

Yeah, Poise is probably not the best written vst. But for what it does it's perfect. No other free MPC like VST is as simple and direct with all necessary features.
I love MPC Beats, it's def more feature-rich, the only con is that you can only load one instance of it and it also uses more RAM.

For me, I'd rather ditch the UVI workstation, for now, I only have the "Digital synsations" library. Not planning on buying any other libraries in the short future.
Since I mostly use Kontakt anyways when it comes to Sample libraries vst's.

Yes, I confirm, VSTi Poise is not working but I bridge Poise.dll 64 with jBridger and then everything works fine.

still good and similar VSTi Sitala or Mux Modular Synth

Thanx for the suggestions.
Good to know that Jvridge can be a fix.
Never heard of MUX modular synth. Too bad it's not free.
I know and have the free version of Sitala.

It's that Poise has an advantage over the rest in my opinion.
It's small and just what you need (except for a built-in compressor like Sitala).
A feature that I really like is, that if you move/rename your sample folders it will ask where to scan for the samples.
I believe this feature was recently added to the new version of Sitala.
Also...you can add 4 sample layers per pad and trim samples per layer.
Like I said...all of the basics you'll ever need from a MPC style vst.

MPC Beats would've been the perfect replacement. But you can only load 1 instance (with 16 outputs) per project.
Don't know if that's the case for MPC2 though. In that case just might buy the MPC Key 61 keyboard, because MPC Beats vst did enhance my workflow.
Using Arturia's KEYLAB 88mkll now (absolutely love it).
