About key shortcuts

Recommended Posts

Hi all!
First of all I wanted to thank you for having this excellent version of my favorite DAW, for free. I have worked in an animation production company for more than 10 years, producing audio for advertising in general. I used SONAR 4 to then jump to SONAR 8 (In my home studio I use SONAR LE). So much so that SONAR is as if it were just another extension of my body, I do not have to think absolutely anything when it comes to using it, I have incorporated the shortcuts so much that I still have a very comfortable posture of my hands and arms on the desk when producing, editing, writing MIDI, etc. For now, all the compositions that I make, I create them only in piano roll (I do not need to use midi controllers). The problem with which I found when using BandLab is that the shortcuts (for example) to edit midi are on the function keys (F5, F6, F7, F8, F9, ETC) and I feel that this is something very anti-ergonomic , you have to keep your hand in the air, it is totally uncomfortable for me to spend more than 8 hours editing or writing midi.
For example,
In MIDI editing, SONAR uses:
S = Select
E = Erase
D = draw
T = select midi tracks
V = MIDI tracks switch
Q = picel
With the shortcuts arranged in this way, one can keep his left hand resting on the desk and simply move his fingers, just as he was playing quake or writing a book on a word pad.
ETC...
In clip editing mode:
S = select / CUT clips
E = envelope tool
C = cut tool
M = track manager
N = on-off snap to grid
X = on-off crossfade
... and etc.
alt + 3 = console
Alt + 4 = edit midi events by text
Alt + 5 = Piano roll (as I miss it)
Alt + 6 = video window
Alt + 7 = score editor
Alt + 8 = Synth RACK
Alt + 9 = Tempo line editor

That all this has changed since that version, for me is like learning to walk with your hands and paint a picture using your feet.

I have already tried to export a .kbn file from SONAR and then load it in BANDLAB and it does not work, since the latter continues to keep the key shortcuts by default.

Could someone give me a hand how to get to have the same shortcuts in the various instances as they were in the old SONAR?

By the way, the BandLab audio engine is far superior to the SONAR versions I have used, the mathematics with respect to the generation of wave in reproduction as in render are fantastic. The issue is that I feel like I'm getting on a Ferrari Testarossa but I have to handle it with an ATARI Joystick, lol.

Thank you very much for your time, a big greeting from Uruguay.

@user6969756591719622,

Greetings!  Welcome to Cakewalk by BandLab and to the forum.  You can reprogram the keyboard shortcuts to be whatever you want them to be.

Open Cakewalk by BandLab and press "P" to open the "Preferences" window.  Down at the bottom, left select the "Advanced" button then scroll down to "Customization" > "Keyboard Shortcuts".

By-the-way, at the top of each forum webpage there is a Cakewalk by BandLab tab.  Click on the tab then select "Reference Guide PDF" to download the 2,188 page manual.  Pages 1,917 - 1,919 describes the Keyboard Shortcuts screen.
