DOLBY ATMOS in Cakewalk

Bob4u

Question

Other DAWs are currently supporting Dolby Atmos (Protools, Cubase, Reaper, Logic...).
This technology is spreading a lot recently as everybody can see e.g. in Netflix (it shows "Atmos" option only if a Atmos system is connected).
I imagine that our beloved Cakewalk should have an improved "Surround Pan" in order to position every track (= object) in the 3D area.
The encoding will be obviously a completely different matter, since the Surround Pan won't mix anything but just send to the Encoder the position information.
I assume that it could be something not free to pay the Dolby royalties, like it happens with a lot of plugins.
Any plans ?

It seems that individual users are not able to license, and that a product owner would have to.

Despite the Music Panner is a plug-in, the interfaces for object-based mixing is Dolby's IP.

I have read that the renderer is not 100% fool-proof to fold down to other multi-channel devices (stereo, 2.1, 5.1, 7.1, etc.) and mixes do not sound consistent.

I truly 'appreciate' the notion of object-based mixing, but I still have a hard time 'selling' this to end-users that still think MP3 is state of the art.
