What are some of your favorite/fun plugins for creativity?

Good suggestions all, will definitely have to demo these.

The only one I have out of all the suggestions is Tantra....which is really good on any sound source.

About last week or so, there was a thread in the Deals section where people said was a fun tool to use, but I couldn't find it.

Tantra, as in this? Not heard of it, but think that is it.

What are you looking to do? There are a lot of VST(i)s that have "random" functions to them... and I mean a LOT... That Tantra plugin seems like most can be done with StutterEdit from the demos that are streaming along now (manipulating/mangling existing audio)... for StutterEdit in particular, shutting off the "Stutter" module opens up a lot of its capabilities... most of the presets tend to use that module in an excessive way (due to the plugin name), but there are many more modules that are all based on manipulating sound buffers into the plugin.

Not sure what Mesh is after, so Stutter Edit may not even be an option. As far as price, it was like $25 (or even $10?) at one point around Christmas time (I had to check to realize it is still listed as $199). Another disclaimer with that particular one, is it really falls into the "RTFM" category if you want to do composition with it. I think that its main purpose was for live performance above all else (i.e., creative screwing around).

And here's a few other fun toys, some are even freebies! :D

Cableguys PanCake2 [freehttps://www.cableguys.com/pancake.html

Glitchmachines Fracture & Hysteresis [free] https://glitchmachines.com/

Melda MSpectralDelay $99 https://www.meldaproduction.com/MSpectralDelay

NI Phasis (part of the NI Mod Pack $69, but was a time limited freebie) https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/effects/effects-series-mod-pack/

Soundspot Nebula $39 https://www.pluginboutique.com/product/2-Effects/10-Delay/3867-Nebula

Surreal Machines Diffuse $49 https://www.surrealmachines.com/product/dub-machines-vstau/

ValhallaFreqEcho [free] https://valhalladsp.com/shop/delay/valhalla-freq-echo/

I think MSpectral Delay, Nebula, and Diffuse are probably my favorites after Blackhole and ObjeqDelay.

And don't run out and buy any of those just yet! I got all of them for free at some point, by paying attention to cclarry's Deals! Well, all but Blackhole and ObjeqDelay, but I still got great deals on those two! Thanks   @cclarry ;)

If I were mainly a guitarist I think I would be buying up hardware stuff........like I picked up this metal distortion box at Guitar Center. Drains a 9volt battery in about ten minutes....but for 10 minutes you get distortion bliss.

Trouble with hardware, though, is they generally don't have a lot of automation/modulation features, compared to VST effects.

Don't get me wrong, I love my HX Effects pedal and my MPX 500 rack mount effect unit, but I only use them for reverb/delay/chorus/distortion effects. When I want to get really creative it is software all the way.

Only other option would be something like a Eurorack effect unit which you could automate/modulate with CV, but that starts to get very, very expensive...

I second MSpectralDelay and Diffuse.

MSpectralDelay is bonkers fun ... but I really need to read the manual juan of these daze. So ... many ... parameters ...

Diffuse is so much simpler to operate but is capable of some wonderful sounds. I can see this being right up andy's alley, so to speak.

I managed to pick up MSpectralDelay, Diffuse and Nebula as freebies, as I sure many here did. B|*
