    Holger, I perfectly understand you!

Updates are constant and predictable in all DAWs, but here is silence.

But let me clarify, what do you really need? What do you lack for creativity and inspiration? Next update? New interface? Some cool plugins?

I would like to share my experience.

I also sometimes catch myself thinking that I want something totally new 😂 And I also think that new cool monitors or a top midi keyboard will help me.
At times like these, I ask myself:
    - When I worked at the 6th or 7th version of Cakewalk Sonar about 15 years ago, did I need updates?
    - All this abundance of plug-ins and synthesizers - do I really need it?
    - Any super-new features of Cakewalk or any other DAW - will help me write a musical masterpiece?

    My intuition tells me "no".

New toys can be inspiring too - but I agree cakewalk is already amazing. There's some things I would like to see, but really it's already great. Anything not quite right - there is always another way to approach it & these things are really just minor not major & they do not diminish the end result. Still maybe they will find some way to augment the experiance.

@Friv just like the game of Go, you can get started fairly quickly - in your preferences pick your audio IO and your MIDI keyboard. add a virtual instrument (piano, etc), press the arm track to record, press record. play your keyboard. hit stop when you're done. hit play to listen. or if you're doing a live instrument, add an audio track, arm the track for record, hit record, play your instrument, press stop to end it. press play to play it.

within, i'd say a few minutes, you'll be live. within a few months you'll have acquired a decent level of expertise to record and mix. within a few years, you'll be really good but still a novice. after about 125 years you'll have mastered all the features... 🙂

I've been using the program for many years - still have no interest in some of the features available.

  3. Take a few deep breaths, walk away, come back later. It is well worth it. The flexibility is amazing.

I have tried a few other programs. Cakewalk is the best of the couple that  I have tried. But maybe that's because I have been using it for so many years,

It a combination of many simple tasks, take it one at a time. The manual is large. Just look at the things that are of immediate concern.

The people on this forum by the way are an incredible help.

Unfortunately backups doesn't help the problems I have with corrupted tracks. The corruptions lay latent and can come up 10, 100, or 1000 (etc.) working hours after they was generated, it seems.

So backing up is really no cure for this. For sure, one can go a version back to avoid the latest corruption, but it will still be there latent, and explode once again if one touches the "wrong" track :D

Are you sure your hard drive is OK ?

    (again just a thought)

Who is "you"? Me, the OP? Or PeterWalker87?

Sorry - Peter with the crash. It was just a thought - nothing more.

BTW: I don't feel like Cakewalk is buggy but I do feel like there are so many shortcuts assigned that it might seem that way at times. It usually doesn't cause problem but I hit wrong keys semi regularly. Strange things can happen. (Backups, Backups, Backups)

  6. I find that USB midi devices tend to be this way. I always make sure any USB devices are turned on before Cakewalk. The same thing happens with my USB Audio Interface.

Having said that: Having A minor nuisance is better than having it turn out to B Major. That would be a sharp experience.

  7. Arranger Tracks make the markers entirely obsolete. They are easier to see and easier to use and color coded. Multiple Tracks are possible so you can label both the song section & the chords. And the bonus is you can use it to arrange.

Ctrl - Page up/Page down moves you to Next/Last section of the active track.

No I did not resolve it I just gave up. It shows up in folders in a different daw but still will not play. I thought it might have been a cakewalk update but I don't know. It's frustrating over the years when I get comfortable with my workflow and then things change and I often feel like I'm having to start over. That's technology!

This is why I mostly use external modules.

  9. On the drop down Edit menu undo (Ctrl-Z) does not sync with the activity list when you select History from the Edit menu.

(The full activity list seems to show the correct first item. Could be confusing)
