  1. I didn't even click on the link, but now I see.   Not very long ago, these things used to eighty or ninety or even  a hundred of more.  Now they seem to list at $20.  🙃  I just don't go on the 8dio site anymore.

You can buy them separately in this deal for $13.   So it's maybe not such a startling deal for the package.   And it's still an okay deal for anybody who wants to finish their collection today.  They are actually quite nice libraries if you are looking for what they are--essentially world female phrase libraries.

8dio marks down their stuff so rapidly, I can only wonder what these four libraries will go for in two years.   Five bucks each?

Komplete doesn't erase previous version of Kontakt.   On my system Kontakt 5,6, 7 are installed.  Each on has a different icon.  Kontakt 6 was called Kontakt.

Yes, and that's very important.  I had one  instrument ( I don't remember which one) which didn't load into Kontakt 6, so it was nice to have Kontakt 5 available.

Ah yes, a $2043 voucher. Completely normal.

Edit: Ok now what? I don't see any vouchers, no extra licenses, just an email which thanks me for my order. I just threw away THOUSANDS of dollars.

    😢

Second and I promise the last edit: I located them, I seem to have 8 licenses of a number of plugins and 5 of another number. Really useful. In case I somehow lose 7 licenses of the Black Box Analog Design HG-2, PA's got me covered 😎

Still no clue what that "three 29.99 EUR "Buy any plug-in" vouchers for use in the Plug-in Alliance online shop" business is all about though.

I didn't figure this out the first time either.  When you put in the code you get a credit for $2043.   The important thing is that it balances out to $0.  So then you check out and pay nothing.   You have to check out and pay nothing or it doesn't work.

After that, when you sign in to the PA Installation Manager (you may need to download this) your plugins show up in the "My Products" folder.

I downloaded them and they installed perfectly.

I still haven't received my NI Voucher yet, though.  Did anybody get it?

  4. One thing some of you may overlook is that some of the expansions are Massive X expansions. At least FADE, KINO, WAKE, HAZE, QUEST, and BOUNCE are new. There are sixteen expansions with 150 presets each. You can find out about all of them on this page:

    https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/expansions/massive-x-expansions/

These aren't all dedicated to EDM composers. There are packs in there that are of interest to hybrid composers. KINO is dedicated to cinematic sounds, and there are soundscapes in FADE, BEAM, SCENE (ambient). You've paid for this stuff, they take up scant hard drive space and I think they're very good. Check 'em out.

Another thing. Even if you don't have a Maschine or have no intention to buy one, NI will sell you Maschine Software. And guess what? It works on some NKS keyboards. Some of you may have noticed there are five buttons that are never lit to the left of the second screen.   When you load up Maschine software in your DAW, those buttons light up and run the Maschine software. During this sale, the software is $49.50 It's not exactly like Maschine, you're hitting keys instead of buttons, but it works.

I think that may be changed.  I own Amber 1 and have Amber 2 demo installed and they both still work.

In that case, I'll gamble on the demo.  This upgrade sounds like something that could complement the NI Session Guitarists.

The only ones I can think of are Cubasis, Garage Band and BandLab.

    They're not up to snuff?

Having messed with it for a day, the audio and MIDI effects that come bundled with  Logic are much better than any other iPad standard DAW.  And that's just the beginning--there are many other unique features, like the Drummer.   It's definitely in a class by its own.   (I say standard DAW, because there are many excellent ways to make music on the iPad that aren't standard DAWs, like Drambo, Loopy Pro, AUM, etc. )

If I was making music COMPLETELY  on an iPad DAW, there's no contest.   There are some definite weaknesses (no interapp audio), but it's the best--although the competition isn't stellar.    In terms of the synths, it has all the ones in desktop Logic, but Alchemy and the Sampler aren't editable.  Good stuff, but the synths I would use would be mostly AUv3 ones anyway.

But I want to use the iPad as a starting point for desktop music.

My desktop DAW is Cubase,  not Logic.  Using this, I can only export audio stems into my PC.   On the other hand, f I export a Cubasis track I get all the audio and MIDI stems.  Why would I want to be limited to any piano, string sound, etc that can be made on the iPad?  I'm going to want to use my desktop VIs.  So I need the MIDI that Cubasis provides.

I love Logic for iPad, I really do, but I probably would use it just for messing around.  Maybe make some beats on it and use them as is.

Because of my renewed interest in iPad music caused by Apple, I'm going to upgrade to Cubasis 3.  😃  It's not as good as Logic, but Cubasis 2 is fine for sketching.

  7. First month is free.  After that it's $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year.    Works  on any iPad with the A12 Bionic chip or later and iPad OS 16.4 or later.

If this is as good as people say it is,  this could be a historic day for computer music.

It could take iOS music to a new level, because no standard iOS DAW has yet been up to the quality of the synths and effects.  (There are some extraordinary apps like Drambo that are DAWish)

For us, it could create a great tool for sketching and even composing.

I think it will lead more developers to create for the platform.

For me, just the idea of it coming has brought me back to making music on my iPad.

The Claire Woodwinds looks very tempting at $98.  I have Spitfire Albion and NI Symphony( plus others) for ensemble playing, but the Claire solo instruments may be useful for solo instruments.

Anyone own the Claire Woodwind Bundle?  Pros or Cons?

I don't have the whole bundle, but I have the Alto Flute, English Horn, and Piccolo. I highly recommend them. They are among my favorite purchases from 8dio.   They sound great, have good legato, a lot of articulations, and three mics. But the biggest deal is that this is a seven woodwind set.  Most woodwind sets from other companies are just bassoon, oboe,  clarinet and flute--and cost more!   They are first class.  And what a price.  The idea of 7 woodwinds for $98 is crazy.

Quality Solo woods can cost a hundred or more for a single one today,  I think the Claires cost that back in 2016 when I started buying this stuff, but  quickly went down to $20 or $30 each, which is when I picked them up.  But $99 for all 7 is pretty great.

Full disclosure: I do  prefer my  4 woodwinds from Fluffy Audio.  The Fluffy Clarinet is really extraordinary and I like the user interface more on those instruments.  But even on sale the Fluffy Bundle will cost you twice this for four instruments.

  9. Some of you work with iOS music, so what I write below may be very familiar...

For people who make ALL their music on IOS, I think this is a huge deal.  One of the weaknesses of iOS has been the standard DAWs, like Auria and Cubasis.  It's possible that this will have some improvements over those two.  It sure looks like it.  But I expect that most iOS musicians will continue to use the tools that they have,  like AUM, Drambo, Loopy Pro, Beatmaker3, Gadget 2, etc.,  because what works on the iPad are things that are DAW-ish, but different.  Some of these things are superior, depending on the music you make.  Check out Drambo and I bet you'll be very impressed at what $20 buys.

For people like us, I don't think it will be a replacement for our DAWs, but a supplement.  We can make music on our iPads and bring it in.  We can sketch music on a trip, import the MIDI and finish it on our VIs and synths, using our effects.   If somebody has Logic on the Mac expects it to be the same on the iPad they are going to be disappointed.  A lot of features will be missing.  But on the other hand there will be new features that can only exist because of the touch interface of the iPad.

From that perspective, $5 a month is wonderful for me.  I'll pay $5 whenever I use Logic on the iPad, and let my subscription lapse when I'm not.  If Apple wants to charge $49 a year for a subscription, what would they charge to own?  $99? I don't think so.   $199?  More? Yikes!  I don't know how much I'll use it, so I love the $5 a month.  Also this is a subscription in the same way that Reason and other subscriptions work: they will be adding loops and other instruments constantly.   So whenever I come back to Logic on the iPad, there will be more waiting for me.  But if I do use it all the time, then I'm okay with $49 a year.

I made all my music on the iPad from about 2013 to 2016. I went every day to the Audiobus Forum to talk to people who had the same passion.  It's a different world.  People expected synths to cost $5 or $10.  They screamed at $20!  Too expensive!  😃  But I started coming to VI:Control and here and never looked back.

This Logic Pro thing has woken me up.  I've gone back and reconnected with my friends at the Audiobus Forum.  I didn't have any music stuff on the new iPad my wife got me for my birthday.  I installed it all.  Fun!  Oh my god, there are so many amazing things that you can do on the iPad that you can't do on the computer. .  So I'm going to be working hybrid.  Making some tracks on my iPad and bringing them into my computer for a finish.

For example, this week I discovered this cool app called Riffler, that generates guitar riffs.    Ten bucks! I've been playing with this for hours and it will definitely find its way into my tracks. Output the MIDI and play my guitar VIs.   It will work great with the Session Guitarist electrics.

As I mentioned on another thread, a limited version of Scaler is free on the iPad. You can unlock all features for $18.99.  So I'm going to use my iPad to finally learn Scaler2.  In fact the iPad has always been strong with Chord recommendation apps like Suggester, Kord, Navichord, etc.  A great place for songwriting.  If you are looking for accompaniment apps but don't want to spring for BIAB, there is the Session Band series.  They sound great, are available in many genres, and are very cheap. The Piano one can't compete with EZKeys, but it offers many different piano styles that follow your chords--and it costs $5.99! Also, it work on an iPhone!   In fact, all the "Universal" apps work on both iPad and iPhone.  So you can compose on Cubasis on a phone.  But not on Logic Pro, as it isn't Universal.

I'm really excited to explore Logic on the iPad next week.  I can't imagine why anybody wouldn't check out the free month trial if they have an iPad that can handle it.

I think it's a game-changer for iOS music. All this publicity will draw people to the platform and will cause more developers to get into it.  And as I said, you can't beat the prices.    The Fabfilter Bundle on the iPad--Pro-R, Pro L2, Pro-MB, Pro-Q3, Pro C-2, Pro-DS goes for $119.99.  And wait until Black Friday!

  10. Yes.  In addition to all the other things they do, they are standard MIDI keyboards.  Back when I used Sonar Platinum, I used an S49 controller.

However, if you want to use certain features like the light guides, you'll need to run your virtual instruments within Komplete Kontrol.
I don't think the transport buttons work in Sonar, either--I think it's just Cubase, Logic, Pro Tools, Studio One, Live, and Bitwig.

But those ARE only preset patch sets!

The only instrument crossgrade available right now for $29 is Augmented BRASS...

Doh! I just didn’t read it carefully enough.

I guess I’ll stick with my demos for awhile.  Saved $29, anyway.
    Cinematic Trio. Phooey!
