I have had a hankering for carving a guitar over the past several years, so this side project may explode in scope.
I hope the guitar doesn't explode 😞

Licensing is the top choice for me. I don't buy Waves anymore. Even dongled software allows at least two machines.
Methinks you may not be aware of this when you have WUP.

I keep Photoshop CS6 installed on my computer just for this reason. It was the last version that you could pay for and own. Am I missing out on lots of new features, compatibility and bug-fixes that I would get if I subscribed? Probably, but for occasional use there's no way I could justify paying for this monthly!
Same here. And Illustrator CS6 too.

Things like WUP where you are buying the entire plugin again for the cost of service/maintenance is pretty absurd.
Absolutely true if you own a few $29 pieces from Waves.
I own Mercury, Abbey Road and Studio Classics and the Instruments bundle. ~$240 per year (from Every Plugin) is a very reasonable price for me to keep up to date, get free new plugins, and in the case of Abbey Road, get new releases at great loyalty release prices.- 2

I am a Waves WUP supporter, and I am on several subscriptions (Slate, Kilohearts, Kush & McDSP). I'm also a Plugged In Member with Harrison.
I have no beef with any of these business models.

I have a Towsend Labs L22, Slate ML-1 (with the Slate preamp) and the AEA R84. These are my mic locker choices for vocals.
I also have the AEA R88 for drum overheads.- 3

I mix 100% using cans (Sennheiser HD650s) and test in the car while driving. I rarely use my speakers in the studio any more.

WOW that is something I would surely buy and probably never use, even if it is interesting.

I discovered a problem with the 64bit version of these plugins if you paired them up in CbB FX bin with 64bit UAD plugins. Can't remember if it was DA->UAD or UAD->DA chain. Crash city.
On the other hand, I don't recall having the same problem in Studio One or Reaper. Those were the other DAWs I owned at the time.
For gits and shiggles I download the latest installers. -

Because Jimmy could play full chords (which typically elude Edge's playing)?
