So what plugins win it for you?  Which ones do you use?

CbB thinks thers is 3500+ plugins and instruments installed on my system. It's an exaggeration, of course, as some waves plugs have up to a dozen variants of the same plugin. But still that's a lot. I tend to use plugins by  Waves, IKM, PA and Overloud besides ProChannel modules. And that's quite a few options already.

    The compressors aren't the best?

Maybe they are. Maybe not. It depends on one's needs, impressions, demands, etc. My needs are fully met with what I already have.

One reason people don´t like these is because they are very mono and doesn´t come with any ambience. Adding a touch of room reverb will make them come alive.  Many of the other ampsims also includes effects in the presets.

Another reason is that they are very sensitive to gain staging and you really need to hit them at the right level.

I personally still use them because of the simplicity, it´s just one view with all the controls in one place.  I put a gain plugin in front of it and tweak until it sounds ok.

I don't think simplicity is the right term here, but what do I know?!

What you've described is yet another reason why I avoid using bx ampsims. Yes, they render the sound with great precision and detail but it takes too long to get there. After lots of tweaking the sound is as fine and smooth as a ...grave stone! And I just wanted it to be alive and breathing.

Currently TH-U is my go-to ampsim, particularly the Rig Player with additional libraries.

  3. I'd most probably get it for $99 with split payments, but for $199 I can't justify buying this. And I'm not sure if I would actually use these plugins because in comparison to similar plugs by other brands these don't win it for me. Except for the gorgeous plate reverb, which was free.

  4. I wanted to get their Engl amps so much, especially the E765 RT, thinking it would be my one and only go-to amp-sim. Simply because I like the real amp a lot. Well, the plugin version quickly became a huge disappointment. I almost never open it and surely never use it in projects. Not sure why. It just sounds and feels wrong. Hope this one is better, but definitely not willing to pay the intro price.

I just tried the demo of the Focusrite Console and noticed that I needed to dial-in some very large EQ gains compared to what I would typically use with other console emulations.  Also the compressor is the least transparent of any that I've ever used.

This is the first time that I've used a Focusrite Console and am wondering if this is normal or if I'm doing something wrong.

I should mention that in the end I did managed to get something fairly decent sounding, but was surprised by the settings I had to use to get it.

Transparent doesn't always mean better. Also turning knobs relatively high or low is typical for analog gear. Sometimes to sound good you have to go to extremes on some mixers. If you like the sound, unusually high numbers are OK.

Did ya got it at 25 $ ?

It has a tendancy to exite the highs ..and attack lows pretty easy , exellent when need but just beware of that ... of course you can play with the sidechain for lows detections ....

    Yes.

    Good to know, thanks!

  7. If we were talking about the real amp, I'd say it's sounds great for metal and is good enough for everything else. But in the virtual environment it's just another plugin capable of nice hi-gain tones and some clean and crunch sounds as well. Not better or worse than other plugins.

FWIW, you can buy Diezel Herbert amp model for ReValver for only $7.99.

  8. I buy TH-U rigs once a month or two. Not too challenging for my wallet. There are quite a few gems in both amp and cabinet profiles. Although I prefer Overloud's libraries, some libs by Choptones are definitely must-haves.

This particular library stirs no interest in me because I've already bought a set of Ecstasy knock-off profiles and because there is a Bogner Ecstasy model in the latest TH-U version.

The price of great plugins is mind-blowing.  A modern hardware Pultec is about $4,000.  And here's the software version for 25 bucks.  We live in good days people!

Add fancy studio booking, famous engineers' fee and even the full price will seem like non-existent. :D
