  1. Just demoed SO5. It's definitely not worth the upgrade price. Pretty much the same functionality as SO4. No jacket required No new bells and whistles have had any use in my mixing/recording workflow.

    Channel monitoring is buggy as hell. I had to toggle its state between takes just to be able to hear what was recorded. For some reason the Tape style monitoring setting has no effect on its behavior.

    Score view is a joke.

    Recording to takes works fine, but why on Earth the last take is not selected automatically? Why do I have to hear all takes playing back simultaneously?

    The only thing I liked is the mix scenes feature - it resets mixer settings instantly, smoothly, without any dropouts.

    Huge disappointment overall. I'm glad I demoed it first.

    That's a pretty good price, but it was a TOTAL no-brainer $79 bucks around Xmas which is when I picked it up.  🙂

    Thanks, mibby! I wouldn't have missed that sale had I been able to walk and talk.

    I'm guessing all of us here use CbB, right?

    Why do you need to buy another DAW? Isn't it overkill?

    That's a good question! In my case, it's different workflows and sets of tools. Like Laravel vs Vue.js, for lack of a better example.

    No, this Lynx LYNX

    Hmm...

    I just googled 'lynx for coding'. Did you mean this? I still fail to see how lynx sprays, lynx online coding platform and studio time are related to what is being discussed.

    I was genuinely interested when you mentioned Lynx in this thread. Now it seems it's a waste of time, just as you said.

    Hi, I’m running AV Linux (newbie) and it’s working well so far. How do you install plugins from packages?

    Noramlly, since it's a Debian based distribution, running "sudo apt install package_name" is the main approach, if the required program or utility exists in the repository. Depending on the package, you may need to use other installation methods, described somewhere in READMEs and/or HOWTOs.

    But AVLinux used to have a utility to install software provided and supported by distro developers. Not sure if it's still there.

  5. Linux is great for software development. I also use it for my University studies, online classes and web-surfing. For audio recording or video making even remotely close to professional quality one should use Windows or MacOS based machines. Linux audio production, while not completely impossible, is a major PITA.  I gave up on this many years ago.

    I'd love to try some music making under Linux. But since I am running a Roland Octacapture it's a no go.

    Currently I use Linux platform way more frequently, than Windows 10 and all the awesome audio stuff I've paid for. Once in a while I need to quickly sketch my musical ideas or edit audio.  Waveform just makes my life easier. I don't fancy running a full-blown audio production on Linux. Not anymore. ;)

    They are certainly not "late to the party", as they've been around for years.  Current Version is 6+...
    They've just never really been on deep discount before.  And who would know better how to emulate
    what they build better than the manufacturer?  Just sayin'....

    Pardon my ignorance and thanks for proving me wrong.

    I've heard it through the grapevine, that plugins from other developers surpass SSL's own version. But that's merely a more or less common opinion. I was hoping to read first hand experience shared by users owning both SSL plugins and at least one of the competing products. Sorry for disturbance.

  8. Let's see. I have this combo in following flavors:

    1. Cakewalk ProChannel modules;
    2. Nomad ASR;
    3. T-Racks 5;
    4. Waves SSL and CLA MixHub;
    5. Plugin alliance SSL ;
    6. maybe some other versions I don't keep in mind.

    I doubt these "late-to-the-party" products from the original hardware manufacturer can be a game changer.  I might be wrong. Any good reason to add them to the collection?

    Hey Soundwise!  When I listened to the demos earlier this morning I decided to pass because I could hear the typical "keyboard playing guitar" artifacts.  By the description I was hoping that these might be eliminated or at least minimized.  But that could be in the programming of the MIDI if the demo's weren't recorded live.  Of course these things were less noticeable in the metal oriented demos, but still, for me I don't think it's up to par with most other major players in the game.

    Pete

    Hey Pete, thanks for chiming in!

    That's what I feel about this instrument, too. Sounds somewhat artificial and liveliness, normally associated with guitar performance, is not there. Also, it seems like there are no key-switches to play arpeggios or control articulations.

  10. Just installed it but so far can't tell if there is any audible difference. No fancy UI improvements, still ugly and confusing. I miss Cab presets feature form previous versions (not sure if it was still present in TH-3).
