  1. Another interesting and good post in what is turning out to be a bunch of cool postings.  I too thought the break mentioned above was great.

    Well done Jack C!

  2. This is a wonderful piece.  Your playing is very good and the sound of that Telecaster is as clear as can be.  Great mix.

  3. What a fun and very interesting piece.  The tempo changes are absoflipinlutely great as is the mix.  The whole production is very tight without sounding over produced.  Every time that I hear one of your songs I wish that I could cure my contentious relationship with synths, and things MIDI and make use of them more effectively.  BTW, the vocals are sounding good!

  4. Wow!!!!!  This is really excellent.  I love the way that you have been reaching out and trying different techniques.  Your vocals really stand out and and carry the excellent lyrics very well.  The various instrumentation and Fx give this a very tripy  feel.  This is an excellent collaboration and the mix sounds great to me.  Great work!!

  5. By the title "Baby Blue" I was expecting something along the lines of Gene Vincent.  However, I was pleasantly surprised with this song.  You have indeed presented a very emotional song that puts the listener on that roller coaster ride that you described.  Your vocals also very effectively carry those emotions.  Well done!!!!!

  6. I did not grow in the UK but I can appreciate the sentiment and the well constructed, performed, and mixed song.  I agree with the comments above concerning the vocals -- well done indeed!

  7. Hi Jack C.  Thanks for listening and the kind words.  BTW I enjoyed your most recent post.

Hey tom.  As always, I very much appreciate your insight and comments.  After all these years of marriage I still like to hear her say it.  Thanks again my friend!

Hi Lynn.  Thanks very much for the encouragement pal!  When it comes to matters MIDI/synth it still is a strained relationship.  However, with an implied handshake, the relationship is somewhat improving --lol.)  Thanks again.

Hey Nigel.  I am very glad that you enjoyed it.  Thanks very much for taking the time to comment.

Hi Noynekker.  An overture  ----  I didn't know that I was capable of such a thing 😀!  Thanks very much for your kind words and comments.  They are very much appreciated!

  8. That is a great story about your reunion.  This is a great track  --  great performances by all.  To these old ears the mix does not sound "over produced" and you have kept that live performance feel to this song.

    Well done indeed!!

  9. Another in a line of creative works that you have put out.  Hmmmm,  I might be able to relate as I am somewhat chronologically challenged (read old). I agree the vox effects muffle the understanding of the clever lyrics.  I very much enjoyed listening!!

  10. I love everything about this song --- arrangement, instrumentation, performance, video etc.  To me the 3 best points were 1) the lyrics which delivered a great message; 2) the vocal performance -  which definitely expressed the message of the lyrics; 3) the incredible pictures which drove home the the song.  I certainly am in agreement  -- - - expletive deleted  (just to be polite) the haters!

    Excellent piece of work pal!!

  11. Hi Larry.  I did get a bit indulgent and carried away while doing this number.  The drums are from a track/clips that I got a very long time ago.  Especially in a live situation, I just love it when the drummer counts in a song with her-his sticks.  The count in was on the track, so I left it in.  Better judgement might have ruled differently.  Thanks for the tip  RE: the riffs.  When I pull up the working file to do some cleaning on this song, I will definitely look at adding more.  The bass --- yup, it could come up more.  Thanks for the suggestions - they are much appreciated!!

Hey John B.  I know the intro is too long and it does violate certain standards -but - I was getting along with my MIDI nemesis so well and having so much fun that I just got carried away.  Also I guess that I have been listening to too much Afrobeat music (the Chilean-Fela Kuti style) and those intro's go on for miles (I love it).  As far as the horns:  I used the free Saxophia VST for the saxophones   and NI Session Horns for the brass.  Thanks for listening and for your comments.  I appreciate it!!

Hi Treesha.  Genre, genre, genre --- It's all so confusing.  Perhaps just making up a category and putting everything that do in it would be a good strategy!?..??  Kinda like my junk bag.  When I start using more than 4 or 5 instruments I do have a problem with separation and individual volumes.  Something to work on when I pull up the working file to do some cleaning up.  Being a guitar guy, I couldn't agree more with your statement about more guitar riffs.  Thanks very much for listening and for taking the time for commenting!!

Actually I liked the long intro.

You liked the intro!  Well bless you!!!!  I shall have to take a look at the drum hit that you mentioned.  As mentioned above I used a drum track and clips that I got a long time ago.  Given the nature of what the drummer was doing and the fact that  I had to change the tempo, it was hard for me to match the song to the drums.  Thanks very much for your comments and I appreciate the encouragement!

  12. Now this was a fun piece for listening and watching.  I was fortunate that a good portion of my career included coastal ecology in and around the Tampa Bay area and lots of recreational diving in the FL Keys.  Thankfully, I never encountered critters like I saw in this video.  And speaking of video --- this was a very well put together and entertaining video.  The music was very well done also.  it was a great complement to the video.  Love the bass and guitar work.

This was a treat to watch and which  to listen.  Nice one.

  13. You indeed are on fire my friend!  You have been putting up some excellent posts (video and music)!  I was planning a trip out to Arizona but then CoVid 19 hit and that crimped those plans.  It is still on the to do list!  Very well done!

  14. There is a lot going on in this song and it all works!  I am impressed with how you managed what must have been quite a task in keeping track of what must have been a lot of tracks.  It started out kind of creepy (I mean that in the best sense of the feel of the song) --- it transitioned in volume  ---- and ended with definition tension.  I think that you did indeed achieve tension and intensity in a very creative way.   I certainly enjoyed listening.

  15. This is some great musical story telling.  You have indeed captured that country "cookin'" with the music  ---  especially with that guitar work.  That baritone voice sounds great and that video was the icing on the cake.  Well done!!!

  16. Excellent!!!  I love the urgency of the guitars which are complemented by the somewhat more tempered nature of the orchestration.  The vocals and BGVs/harmonies are spot on.  The arrangement is great and the mix well done.  Oh yes, and the the lyrics deliver a great message.  Most cool indeed!!!

  17. In a good faith attempt to bridge the uneasy truce that I have with things synth/MIDI, I tried to do a song using MIDI instruments/voices.  I ended up having fun doing this and got a bit carried away.  The result is this song.  I know that the intro violates the basic rule of popular music (no long intro's) but I got carried away with my self indulgence.

Anyway, any input will be much appreciated!  Thanks!

  18. Asoflippinlutely excellent work!!!!  What an excellent message!!!  Do you mean that we were lied to?  What is more important -- people or profits?   A rhetorical question but maybe one that we should think about.  The soundtrack was perfect.

Great piece  --  thanks for posting.
