I have retested with some recent files and they appear to be pulling up patch information correctly.  The issue I have seems to be mostly with some files from about 2 years ago.

Could it be possible that they were actually Reaktor 5 instances?

  2. Adjust those settings to your desire and save them in your default Project Template. Then they will apply when you start a new project while using that template.

Anything in <Preferences><Project> is specific to that project, not global to the application.

  3. FWIW; every project where I have a Reaktor 6 instance loads with the saved ensemble installed and active. I keep copious notes on the patch & automation settings in the track notes section to confirm. I also have notes on the start parameters so that the sound that I want to morph is identical every pass, at least until I freeze or bounce it.

To delete a marker, while keeping the left mouse button pressed on a marker, press delete.

Beat me to it by seconds. [I rarely use that method because chasing Markers down with my mouse takes me too long to zone in on it, and requires both hands... I'm just lazy but faster the other way. LOL]

  5. You are correct Sir!

[I probably should have mentioned... backup any directories that are assigned in the <Preferences><File><Folder Locations> section and you could get back up and running pretty quickly if need be.]

And don't forget your Key Binding set / Color set / Theme,  if they are customized.

  6. Any (or all) the of the updates since 2018 should have been saved to your preferred DL location, just backup the latest version.

If you have to install clean to a new machine you will have to re-setup your preferences.

Also archive the Cakewalk Core directory to save your templates, et al.

As for plugins... on your own to figure out where they all are.

  7. Why?

The qualifications and expenses needed to be able to obtain and maintain the license necessary for a Dolby mixing & playback suite are pretty steep, and you can't distribute your end product without their approval.

If you've got material suitable for Atmos translation, best to job the mix out to a facility that is already qualified and registered.

I have colleagues at Dolby and we've discussed this on many late nights.

Besides, I don't have an extra ½ acre to build the room necessary.

I like the causal way you say "just 448 plugins" haha that tickled me but i understand many are instrument and sound plugs not just fx

    I'd say it's roughly 60% instruments, 40% FX.

My income this year is gonna take a big hit due to the directors, writers, and soon maybe SAG going on strike. Probably not the best time to try to get into this genre.

Thanks! That sounds complicated to me. Where can I see a more detailed instruction?

@Robert Hale Just so you can see the console layout for my setup here is a screenshot of the Master/Output section.

When you get a mix whose sound you really like, load it into the other songs you're mixing so you have a reference you can unmute and listen to from time to time.

The main concern I'd have about the mixes is that the balances of all the instruments are right.

^^^THIS is vital! Get one just the way you like as a pre-master mix and use it as a reference.

  11. As I recall, the Audio Interface that you finally settled on doesn't have multiple hardware output options available, so I was just explaining that using an output for headphones and an output for speakers is possible IF and only IF your I/O has multiple outs built in.

In your case, you might want to explore further what @Lynn Wilson suggested, or the scenario from @57Gregy.

  12. I master multiple songs (EP/LP) in one audio track sequentially ( I learned from Bernie Grundman) with track start markers & a couple of markers inside each song for pertinent sections (verse/chorus/bridge et al) and then run to a master bus with my mastering chain. Enough silence (~5sec) between cuts to emulate the final assembly and eliminate overwash of my ears.

On the source track I can insert EQ & level changes that can be written into snapshot automation before treating the ensemble with mastering tools to get them in the same ballpark an make them sound like they came from the same project.

Of course, I will also send notes back to the mixer (if not myself) for recommendations regarding the mix. So, yeah... getting the mixes right IMO is the toughest part.

Mastering a well executed mix is sooo much easier than polishing a turd.

    YMMV

  13. All my project templates have hardware outputs that I assign the master bus to; speakers, headphones, surround (6 channel). That makes it easy to change from phones to nearfields to big monitors (stereo just using hardware out 5&6 and my surround monitor controller). And I still have 2 hardware outs unassigned. Hmmm...
