    TIME

This is one moody, laid-back blues tune with a message that had to be said!  You always have a way of putting contemporary topics in a way that makes sense and imparts a message at the same time.  As usual, the production sounds organic with your touch of warmth.  Listening to you is like enjoying my grandma's cooking and all the comforts of home.

  2. I'm glad that you put two versions up because it was pure joy to hear them both.  I love the title, as it does have an Indian flavor that I learned to love from the Beatles.  Five stars with two thumbs up!

I've always liked oddball time signatures.  Well done holding it together and maintaining the groove.  That's tricky.

I'd like to thank each of you for your kind words!  I'm happy to hear that it works for others, and I'll keep experimenting with different time signatures.

  4. Not only is this another good song in the Kirby style, but this mix is clean and polished which showcases your voice and guitar well.  Perhaps the addition of another's voice would be just the spice this song needs, as variety is the spice of life.

  5. You must be Leo Fender's lost son.  You play this style about as good as anyone, whether you're adapting an old folk tune or creating something new out of the blue.  Fine, fine job!

  6. Bjorn, you have a very large palette of musical tastes.  I like things like this, especially at certain times of day.  This gets under the skin in a good way, and I'll be listening again and again.  When I try something like this, I'm not nearly as successful.

  7. Just as I was getting the vibe it was over, short and sweet.  A nice experiment that will probably influence me to give the arranger a try.  I feel I'm often a step behind you.  Good job, Wookie!

Vocals were slightly Van Vliet'ish ! enjoyed it.

That's the first I've ever heard of Van Vliet, had to google him.  I'm happy to please!

Buggered me brain up ... I really couldn't understand the rhythm at all ... if Zappa saw my face he's blow smoke in the air and ask who my mother was ...and then I see Jesse's comment .. .far too clever for my old brain .. but boy... you play that ol'gitar well

Sabby, you're not alone.  This whole shebang started with that crazy guitar riff at the intro.  Sometimes my body knows more than my brain.  Thanks for your reply, as always!

Absoflippinlutely cool sounds.  I understand the reference above to Copeland's stuff.  I also pick up a little bit of a Devo vibe in the timing and keyboard sound (e.g., Satisfaction).  You really have been putting out some interesting, creative and well done  work recently.  Luv the guitar playing and your vocals are top notch.

Freddy, thank you very much!  I was unaware of Stewart Copeland's work until recently, but am grateful to have gotten the word.  Stay safe, my friend!

It keeps you listening, it is why Zapper liked them so much.

    Nice job @Lynn :)

Thank you Wookie!  That's why I kept listening to Zappa-you never knew what was coming next.

Took me about half way through to stop trying to fix the 1, and let the tune dictate where it falls.
I was auditioning some 5/4 stuff and didn't "struggle" as much with the 1 in that.

So 7 is tougher? I don't recall ever playing any 7/8 stuff...

Hi Tom, thanks for replying!  I had the same problem until I started anticipating the missing eighth note at the end.  I had to do this to break the cycle of the gloomy songs I had been writing lately.

It kind of sounds a bit like some of the music Stewart Copeland was doing after the Police.. I like the sound of the guitars, so yes I would say it works😎

I'm gonna check that out, as I was a huge Police fan.  Thanks so much for your reply!

I agree with the nod to stew-art copeland.  This is just SO good.  I'm running out of superlatives.  This genre is right up my alley

David, I really appreciate your response!  One superlative I never tire of is "luck".  (or, more appropriately, "it's better to be lucky than good")

What is weird is that these sort of time signatures do something to brain and seems to irritate me,
    Anybody else get that?

I like the guitar work and your vocal Lynn but I cant listen to it all.
I remember thats how I felt when I first listened to Jessie's music..  but now for some reason I like it and have got used to it and can see the creativity in it.
Need to try and listen more..

    Gary

Gary, I know what you mean.  Either it works or it doesn't.  This is the kind of feedback that I'm looking for.  I don't know if this will help, but when I took theory many years ago, I was taught to count odd time signatures like this:  1-2-3-4-1-2-3 (sorry if you already know this).  I had to play this by feel rather than count it out.  I had more trouble getting used to the missing eighth note at the end than finding the downbeat.  I have trouble thinking outside the box at times, and an exercise like this helps me expand my box.  Thanks so much for your reply!

    very cool mate.

I have an Ace bandage for you, my friend!  Whatever you do, don't try snapping your fingers to this, unless it's on a keyboard.  Thanks for your reply, Daryl.

  12. You can set the CC to any number between 0 and 127, you're not stuck with just those values.  At least, in my experience.

I should mention, you can go into the piano roll view and change sustained notes from there by simply grabbing the edge of a note(s) and dragging  left or right (as needed).  Hope this helps.
