  1. If it is a soft synth, Cant you simply solo the midi track and export to wave file? Should take a fre seconds.
  2. I purchased the unit in 2017 and the only drivers I had access to is 3.7.. A few months ago, their support tech remoted in and had me install version 3.7b, which had no real effect. Oddly, most projects play fine. I have one or two projects that I created in the last year that are full of weird sounds like tearing paper. It is possible that the project is messed up.
  3. I just updated BIOS from a Dec 2016 Beta version to one from 2018. Updated motherboard chipset drivers. I seem to have the latest Texas Instrument 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Contoller driver. I have a StarTech 3 Port 2b 1a 1394 PCI Express FireWire Card Adapter PEX1394B3. I cant find any drivers on their site and Update drivers from Device Mgr says I have the latest. I will play around for a while and see.
  4. I would rather keep my firewire because I know that it has better sustained throughput than usb but I think my unit is defective. The mixer interface always shows there is no device (the saffire unit itself) even when it is connected. I still have sound but the faders on the mixer do not function. I would go thunderbolt but I have an Asus ROG motherboard and the Focusrite support guy said they have an issue with Asus TB interfaces.
  5. I hope I am posting in the right area. If not, I apologize and feel free to move it. I am using Cakewalk with my Focusrite Safire Pro 40. Once in a while I get weird tearing or ripping sounds in my audio. My PC is fine. I built T for video editIng and the specs are amazing (i7, 32 GB Ram, all SSDs, etc) so I don’t think it is the machine. I thought the issue could be the FireWire interface but I have had three of them and the most recent wasn’t some cheap Chinese knockoff. I use a more expensive cable, the problem could be with the Safire Pro itself. So, Focusrite offered me a replacement with the Scarlett, which seems identical to me aside from trading in FireWire to USB 2.0. Is anyone one using one of these successfully with Cakewalk? I am reading about midi issues and latency but a lot of that could be from users who have no idea what they are doing. I am concerned with both of the above issues as I use a lot of midi and don’t want to deal with latency. I feel like going from FireWire to Usb is a backward step but with newer technology than the Safire, it may be a more lateral move. Thanks to anyone who can chime in.
  6. I opened the projects again this morning. The M1 project worked fine, The older project that has the Roland Cloud patch still is wrong. Oddly, the new M1 project has both itself and the Roland Cloud and everything played exactly as I programmed in last night. Korg is VST2 and Roland is VST3. So, this project is mixed but playing fine. I am trying my best to break it. I am disappointed and thrilled at the same time that it works. I will try those settings that msmcleod gave also and get back to everyone.
  7. O. Good news and bad news. Good news is that it worked. Bad news is that I could not recreate anything. I opened a new project and only used M1 sounds. I added 4 tracks. Saved and closed. Re-opened. Still good. Closed out of Cakewalk and back in. Still good. Changed a few fx settings in the M1 patches to strip away the heavy reverb and chorus. Saved. Closed program and reopened and everything stuck. I then added a few Roland CLoud patches which are vst3, so I mixed 2 and 3 and it all still worked after closing. I don't understand this but I feel good that it works. I then opened another project that I know was giving me a problem with a Roland Cloud patch. It is supposed to play patch #4 called Next Stop NIrvana but instead sounds like a tuba. I searched and found that it plays patch # 1 called Brass Tracks. So, I am having the issue, only it is with the Roland Cloud vst, Saved it using the Save As method above. Closed CW and opened and same results. I viewed the Midi Events and there is only one note played once and sustains, so I cannot see any midi message or instruction to do anything other than play the one note.
  8. I dont even touch the synth rack. I simply insert instrument tracks until I have what I need. I do not do anything other than that other than adding audio tracks. I do not touch any settings or tweak anything in CW. Im jealous that yours works with the M1. Does it also keep the settings if you alter the M1 effects (reverb or chorus levels?)
  9. I will create a new project later when I get home and only use my Korg M1 vst instrument. I will save, close and re-open. If it is correct, which I do not plan on, I'll be fine. If not, I will try the SAVE AS method above and open again. I never heard of Replace if Possible on Project Load setting but will look for that too. Will report back later, hopefully with a reproducable problem.
  10. I only create new projects. I never import any midi files into my projects.
  11. I contacted Korg regarding their M1 VSTI and they said that this would be a DAW issue where something is sending a midi message to reset something. This happens to me using Korg M1 and Roland Cloud. Those are the only instruments I have installed that are not stock Cakewalk instruments. In my case, the Korg M1 vst is there but the wrong patch plays (there are over 1000 patches in many categories. Same with the Roland. My only problems are the patches. I have no problems with effects plugins such as Waves, that I am aware of. I would send a project file to Cakewalk to review if it would help. I am not sure how to include a undo history.
  12. That would be great if you could share your findings Max. I would surely appreciate it as many others would too.
  13. I never updated any of these plugins. It is completely random. Some sounds seem to stick and most do not. I am saving as a Cakewalk Project. Oddly, the correct patch is already selected in the instrument but the sound is not right so I increment the patch up one and back down again and it will play correctly. It s a pain to do that and only works if I wrote the original patch name down for reference.
  14. I create a new cakewalk project and only save them as a cakewalk project. I never save as a .mid file. But I still lose much of my patch sounds nearly every time. Even if the patch is correct, it will sound way off, so I click on the vst instrument so it opens, change the patch and change it back immediately and it works. It is a nuisance to do this every time but it works. I do not know why most of my vst settings disappear after I close the project.
  15. Thanks for the suggestion but that does not help much. I already rename the track to the patch name. However, that does not help if I turn of the vst instrumenr’s exagerated effects settings. I don’t need a swarm of reverb or crazy delays In a stock patch. So, my guess is that there is no answer to this annoying issue. How is anyone getting anything done, unless this doesn’t happen to them. Maybe it is an M1 or 4oland cloud issue. I don’t see anything in Cakewalk that will allow me to save these settings.
  16. I get weird sounds using my Focusrite Safire Pro 40. Sounds like tearing cardboards at times. I think it is resulting from my Roland vst instruments. If I start a new project and don’t use the plugin, it doesn’t happen. A project that uses the plugin has random sounds. When I export, the sounds are not there.
  17. So, is it normal that I choose a patch in the Korg M1 vsti, do an entire session, save and close Cakewalk, and next time I open the project, the patch is completely different? Such as, the first patch is called Universe. While it sounds nice, it does not fit in most any songs. So, I change it to brass, or drums or anything else. Next time I open the project, it will revert to Universe. Then I have to figure out which if the 1000+ patches I used originally. I cannot imagine this is how it is designed.
  18. I may have posted this question in the old forum. My apologies if I did.I am re-recording many older songs from the 80s and 90s lately that were originally done on 4 track cassette. I purchased the Korg M1 and Roland JV 1080 vast instruments. I created a few projects each using some of these patches. The problem is that sometimes, when I re-open the projects at a later time, the patch is incorrect. I will be the right vst (M1 or Korg) but it will revert back to the first patch. That doesn’t help when there are hundreds of patches to choose fro. Then I have to remember which of the 10 drum sets I used and which patch format hat set. It happens with any random instrument patch. Am I doing something wrong or is this working by design? It makes it nearly impossible to use virtual instruments without writing down every instrument, patch, parameter, etc. How is everyone dealing with this? This cannot be the way it is in pro stud Rios using Pro Tools or any other DAWS is it?
