Thanks Steve, so its just ``It´s horses for courses ´´  I must admit that i stumble with my English at times as i`m a Brit who lives  in Austria   (thirty years now) . one of my writing tricks (don't tell anyone) is slipping in a well known saying - proverb into a chorus so it stands out ,. I´m a riff artist and i write from a riff or chord sequence , mumble along until something happens then comes the text , cheers P

What works ... Just works, as you infer ... ( Your secret is safe with me ... can't speak for the others though LOL )

  2. Hello Paul,

What a great question! My approach to songwriting is to try and get my idea down, often before playing anything, in the hope I get the song completed and not left halfway through because I ran out of steam ... not always mind, but for me it works well when I have a half baked idea an need to think what I want my message to portray when it's completed. There have been times when I've been a chorus (words only) and was asked to write the song around it, then this approach works a treat !

Next is to find a way for the lyrics to play out with my ability to play the instrument, often, and certainly of late, using plugs ( NI,EZydrum, keys etc ) to get a bare bones song. At this stage I often read the lyric differently than I first thought and change words to match the rhythm. Then comes the mixing and mastering ...

Yes it's a bit like reading a book before watching a movie, but you have to bare in mind, all the content of a song is in you head when listening ( unless a video runs along with the work ) ... so there is never disappointment and other peoples approach to writing their song is interesting .. you learn and hopefully get better from the experience .

Just for the record I did like this one 😁

  3. I think the problem here is not understanding computer interfaces with inboard ( in-the -box / outboard instruments)  regarding how your said, desktop / laptop .. MAC / PC / deals with it all.

Your problem seem to be  a quick fix ... IF THAT'S POSSIBLE .....Understanding of drivers with software ,... sound interfaces and Midi controllers ETC ,

...most of the guys on this website are extremely  versatile with the problems you seem to have .. ... ..BUT,  you need to  a basic understanding of your goals and said difficulties of where you would like to go with your music ... in a word experience

There's no 'easy fix' ... so check out YT for at least some understanding of where you wana  go.

  4. Well done    Lynn .. But you did  have me at the last beat  ....

Excellent lyrics, but you godda listen to get them cause they are well  deep.  This one is almost progressive but you still have a Beatles vibe / break, in you stuff ... I may have to take you up on Keg offer 😉.  Love to do that chorus with you with pint on the amp stack  LOL ;)

    Stay Loose

  5. Hi Paul, I am a lyrics guy, For me I think that the overall song needs work ( as you already know ) but the lyric is spot on.

I read through them twice before I  listened to the work, and FWIW, I think it's a great message.  It can relate to a lot of people with addiction too ... and more .. it's a shame so much talent is hidden away on this site ..

Anyway, off the soap box and just to say ..bloody good work, looking forward to the FA

  7. Gotcha MOJO back then ! In spades !!

I can hear Bowie doing this one ... I really like the mix, in that the drums aren't right up front ... for me it was worth the wait, if only for the raunchy vid 😜.

Thank you for putting this out, Steve!  I've been waiting for something like this for a long time.  I look forward to playing these songs over the next few days, even though I've heard most of these songs several times.  I have a few friends that I want to share this with to impress them with the quality of music that this forum has to offer.  "Are We Lovers" still blows me away since the first time I heard it.  A masterpiece!

Thanks for the accolade my friend ' a masterpiece eh'!  Well I'm goona find it hard to get my head through the studio door. Love the idea of sharing these tracks with your mates .. Wouldn't it be great for all of us to have a few beers and get drunk discussing our songs 😜

If I ever go over the pond ...begs you buy the first pint LOL

ATB and thanks for your time

    Congrats on your Album Steve:
Well done mate...  I even struggle to finish one of my own songs let alone an album full,  🙂

If I could pick three my favs in the list are:
    Fallen.
    Are We Lovers (anymore)
    Grey

Your manage to get emotions and truth in your vocal
    Brilliant pal.

Thanks for the comments and the winners, I like them too except I may add 'Like we used to be' ..although that's me being narcissistic LOL. Just a silly factoid, the first track on the album to me around 3 months solid!..... to get it to a standard I could accept ... and it still isn't right, and as it was sending me nuts I just put it up 😜 !

All the best and thanks again 👊

Fantastic!  I really like the backing tracks in this tune, especially the percussion!  Your voice has never sounded better, Steve!

Thanks you lot. I posted this some 3 years ago and in talking to one of our friends  who is going through a 'not so good' time it was a reminder that all of us have stuff to deal with ... this was written for the wife who had AML at the time ... so I had to write this as a message to the big guy .. just in case he wasn't too busy ...

I am blessed, Ms Wookiee has in the past brought me, an Ibanez guitar, a Novation KS Rack, Korg's M1 and Wavestation in VST when they were first released as the initial Digital legacy, Arturia's CS-80 VST version 1 pre the V collections. She is a beautiful soul.

Blessed indeed ... I have the CS-80 vst, very impressive bit of kit.👍

@Supa Reels if you haven't tried them give the Moog Moogafooger FX a try, very analogue, capable of some deeply disturbing effects. It may be why you thought I used the Z3TA+2.

Blimey mate  I can't afford that toy !! She would leave me LOL

  14. 13 hours ago, Wookiee said:

There are always options, the muse didn't bring me that one, thanks for the ears and time, no Z3TA +2 this time but there is always a future possibility.  Synths are picked at random sometimes other times because of their capabilities.

It's hard to find the correct sound with soo many at one's finger tips ... I have been experimenting with different kinds of sound plug ins ... not synths but  how compressors, reverb and mixing plugs and their content, involving sound acoustics, 'in the box' , actually affect the sound one is looking for  ... So I'm working on a bit of work that, apart from the kitchen sink, has it all LOL ... do I love mucking' around with musoes and getting new blood in the studio  ... .. .Yep keeps me sane . I think :D

    Keep stayin' loose
