what I don't understand is why OSs don't do this natively, with all the streamers, youtubers, podcasters and what not out there, it's the future, doggone it

I think driveshaper was a freebie to all existing customers when it was introduced. Check your cableguys account.

If you didn't have a chance to donate before Larry sent the money, the family has requested future donations be made to the mental health campaign Terry was working for:

so it seems, from reading the the links posted, that the need to be on the internet to use the program is intended.
that's not how I read the (scant) available information, but I agree with you. I got a couple of free plugins authorized through iLok's cloud, which means you have to be online 100% of the time if you want to use them, and that just ruins it for me. It's stupid.
However, the BFD guy, Amberience, said that the next version will address "Expansion packs not being available when offline." Why would they address such a thing if they intended BFD not to run offline?

Well, Gainmatch was an easy sell. I watched the videos and spent 15 minutes with the demo. LOTS of options "hidden" in the menus/icons. Got it direct for $15 thanks the the "YT15" code published on this forum.
now we only need to remember to use it 😛

That said, there are cheaper alternatives available, and I am not sold on what I would be getting for the upgrade path at $49.
What alternatives would you recommend?

(this things stress me a bit)
