  1. This is possible today when using an audio/MIDI track pair instead of an instrument track.

In the console view and inspectors, clicking on either the input of the audio track or the output of the MIDI track (assuming it does not go to a drum map) brings up the synth UI.

Because instrument tracks hide audio inputs and MIDI outputs, they lack this feature.

  2. If you created a Single Sign On account on the old Cakewalk site in late 2014 though 2017, support@cakewalk.com should be able to help you regain access to your account. User initiated password reset is not an option. Email is not available from the old Cakewalk servers.

If you were a SONAR Platinum/Professional/Artist user, you definitely have an SSO account. If you were are forum member in 2014-2017 you have an SSO account.

All of your old Cakewalk products are still available in that account.

Once you restore you old Cakewalk account access, Cakewalk Commend Center is the best way to download and activate DP and Rapture along with the other products from the SONAR Platinum/Professional/Artist era. Use the installers in your account for older Cakewalk DAWs and products that did not get command center installers.

All the plug-ins installed with the old 64bit Cakewalk DAWs including Dimension Pro and Rapture work in CbB.

  3. Generally when using an external audio interface like the NI Komplete, the driver mode in the DAW is set to ASIO and all audio in and out of the DAW is handled by the manufacturer (in this case NI) supplied ASIO driver.

Not sure how the OriGen G2 DAC figures in this. When running in ASIO driver mode the DAW is restricted to one I/O driver at a time.

Yes I think the problem is that my iRig Duo has MIDI I/O so it automatically selected that and I can't find hoe to override it.

    Thanks, Alun

Deselect the outputs in preferences, the link I provided above shows the screen

Even if just temporarily, then open the MIDI file and it will show you how TTS-1 gets setup.

  5. BA is not coded by the CbB dev group.

It is developed and maintaned in Singapore and predates BandLab's purchase of Cakewalk IP.

BA was created as a support tool for BandLab, the Chrome-based DAW.

    CbB support was added later.

There may come a day when BA is expanded to include more sophisticated CbB install options.

  6. It is by design.

To roll back to the previous release version, you will need to uninstall Cakewalk and reinstall from BandLab Assistant

Although rollback installers are in the  EA announcement thread starting with 2020.04 EA, having the the production version available in BA not only allows new users a chance to use the production release during the EA period is it a way for EA users to fully restore back to the production should rollback fail.

Also, if a user is not running the current production release and wants to try the EA version, they need a way to update to production because the EA installer is an update installer that must be applied to the current production release or as a fix to the current EA release.

  7. AFAIK, BA is production only (always has been). The EA is only available in the EA announcement thread and is a link to an update installer on Google.

If BA installed EA releases new users could not get a production release during the EA period.

since I wanted to record from a MIDI keyboard, I could NOT call it a MIDI track, and instead, had to call it an "Instrument" track.

An "instrument" track is a special presentation of an audio and MIDI track pair. In fact the tracks that make up the "instrument" track may be exposed by opening the track context menu by right-clicking in the track header and select "Split Instrument Track"

A MIDI track on its own is capable of recording MIDI data and playing MIDI data but in order to hear the results of the MIDI playback in the DAW, there must be an audio track associated with the MIDI playback device be that a hardware or soft synth.

how do I get to a LARGE piano-roll screen, to make it easier to edit the notes?

By default, double-clicking a MIDI clip  header opens the clip in the Piano Roll View in the mutlidock. SHIFT+D maximizes/restores the multidock. Shortcut D expands/collapses the mutlidock. There are other useful features in the multidock link provided.

  9. Left 1-2 and Right 1-2 are just names for the input channels 1 and channel 2 on two mono tracks. The DAW will record what ever signal is arriving at the its inputs. By default, mono tracks in the DAW are panned to center. To alter this use the track pan controls in the DAW.

IOW, mono inputs whether they are on the interface or in the DAW are only panned after the signal is received.

Aside from the UR44 are there any other entries in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ASIO

Oh yes, the darne thing is there. I guess I should delete it

    Yes

If the UR44 is the only record in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ASIO, that is all Cakewalk will see when running in ASIO driver mode.

A clean install should work. Note: the clean install instructions remove CbB and all older Cakewalk products from the registry.

If the clean install does not work or you need a more surgical process that removes CbB only contact support@cakewalk.com

From the image above it appears that the scanner is being run from the plug-in manager. The scanner should be run from preferences although I doubt it will make a difference in this case. The ability to run the scanner from the plug-in manager is a legacy feature intended to be used with pre-X series SONAR and older Cakewalk DAWs that lack the preference screen.
