  1. Thanks amiller. I really liked the tone of her voice, but I agree, it does not stand up to the whole track - luckily, this is part of a process, so I'll try and get some other vocalist to do a fresh take. It's a shame that so many singers have no access to decent recording setups, or even a decent mic. Real shame.
  2. I've been working on a massive collaborative song via the site HitRecord.org https://hitrecord.org/records/3756176 This song started out as a simple piano track and has now progressed into a full blown pop song. I'd be interested to know if I managed to pull off a decent mix of the female vocals in the second verse. I had to work with a vocal recorded on a telephone in an echoey room - I really struggled to make it sit in the mix. Any suggestions on how to tame that vocal? Appreciate any feedback - cheers!
  3. That's a lot of fixes - kind of suggests version 5 was a bit *glitchy I tried the demo during the Cakewalk debacle a few years back and was underwhelmed. Very difficult to use on a laptop. I noticed it has a linux version, which has peaked my interest though.
  4. Well, you can't say I haven't tried. I install the VST2, but when it comes to unlocking it my serial number is always refused. I've tried putting it in iLok first and then running VST. It just keeps saying that the serial no is no longer valid. I even tried getting another serial number (after all, it's free) - still says no. I'm fed up trying to install this.... Big NO NO
  5. I upgraded a long time ago through Studio, Producer and SPLAT to CbB. I'm more than happy with all of them in 64bit. The reason I had to go back to 8.5 was because my audio interface for recording is firewire, and the firewire port on my HP Pavilion has stopped recognizing the interface. So, I had to go back to the old trusted Frankenstein that is my Clevo (been rebuild a few times when I melted the motherboard....another story) to get some stereo mic recordings of a piano. Interestingly, it wasn't that hard to use - it was also quite good too. On XP, Sonar 8.5 works a treat - on my HP 64bit, it was as slow as an American President.
  6. This is a useful site to check if your email has been hacked in any number of mass hacks over the years. I had my email and password stolen from an old Adobe account that I opened in the 90s and had forgotten about. Check your email addresses (past and present) to see if you've been exposed. If any of your passwords were the same back then, change them. https://haveibeenpwned.com/ No-one likes getting hacked, but it's becoming more and more common. I sometimes wonder if the mass of free VSTs being offered up by small companies over the years have just been a way of skimming email addresses and reselling them onto spammers - after I started signing up for those free fx and VSTs that show up in the Deals sections here and in the old forum, I started getting bombarded (and I do mean bombarded) with spam. Makes me reluctant to sign up for anything these days.
  7. The Samsung EVO drives are very reliable. I've had one running in my laptop for 4 years now without problems. I bought a Crucial CT240BX300SSD1 when it was on offer for my wife's laptop, and it doesn't perform as well as the EVO. Also, to save the SSD from maxing out on my laptop, I have an external HHD, salvaged from the laptop, as a recording drive - seems to work just fine.
  8. Me too. I always have this fear at the back of my mind that one day I will turn on my computer and the SSD will fail without warning. HHDs can last forever. I had to dig out my old Clevo laptop yesterday to do some recording (long story) - this baby is nearly 20 years old and it fired up Windows XP as quick as W10 - recorded non-stop without a glitch in Sonar 8.5. Only bummer is that it's all in 32bit and I can't upgrade it.
  9. I bought a Humble Bundle a while back, and I still have a voucher for Producer Planet on Magix. I can get one of the Magix Vintage FX plugins for free, but I don't know which one is worth it. The choices are Filtox, Corvex, or Ecox. Does anyone have any experience of using these, or could you recommend one? Thanks
  10. And why does their web page no longer work? Something smells fishy!
  11. Ok, so I tried installing the VST2 version, but now it says my key doesn't work because it is already registered. Also, when I try the demo version, it asks me for the login for my iLok, which is localised to my computer, but doesn't seem to find it. I'm at the point of giving up with this plugin. 😞
  12. Thanks @Jude77 I'll give it another try tonight. 👍
  13. I tried installing, Windows really didn't like it. I also couldn't get it to work. Where is the VST2 version?

does it work a bit like the humanizer in BFD? I used to love that... but haven't got round to investing in the upgrade.
  16. Thanks for that - very useful
  17. Pity that I have to pay tax in Italy - my price comes to $35.38 Is it much better than the stereo imager in izotope plugins?
  18. Is the unit any good? Any using it? There's not much in the way of info or comments. I had to google the kickstarter page. Not much traffic there either.
  19. I got clinical with my Kontakt libraries at the beginning of the year - tossing out freebies that I never use, less good versions, really obscure things - what remained are my NI pianos (especially the Gentleman), OrangeTree Samples Steel Slide (I use this for every mix now as distorted guitar), a set of free Korean Libraries (small size and have that Eastern sound). The rest, I keep on a seperate drive to swap in and out when I feel the need. My set up is more 'live' instrumentation though, so I don't need that many virtual instruments. - In fact, I'm regretting some of the purchases I made at the beginning of the year when there were 'unmissable' sales on. Just taking up space on the SSD.
  20. Thanks @scook I'll give it a go when I get home. 👌
  21. Hi guys, I'm putting together a vocal mix which could benefit from a vocoder. Is there a Sonar Vocoder? I've got versions 5-8 + SPLAT + CbB. I cannot remember if there is a decent vocoder in these. Could it be under a different name? I've also got Project 5, which I think has a vocoder, but is 32bit. Trying to stay off the 32bit plugins for future proofing. Any suggestions? Cheers. 😊
  22. I tried using a previous version of Hitfilm on my laptop. It used to crash horribly all the time. It was so time consuming having to recover all the lost edits etc.. that I gave up and bought Vegas Pro. I hope they have made it more stable since the last version.
  23. Is there a big difference between this and, say, izotope plugins?
  24. Hi Kloon, sorry to take so long to reply - work, work, work. Around mark 0:48 & 1:24 for example it sounds like there might be pitch correction going on - I know that these days a lot of singers pull off that sound in their delivery, so it may just be the way you're singing. I don't mind it, but in moderation (like Cher 'Do you Believe in Love'....OK probably not the comparison you were looking for ) I love the harmonies around 3:40 My one crit is that I would have loved to have heard the song take off in another direction. It feels like it's building up to something big, but never quite kicks off. A soaring key change? A tempo shift? It's a solid song though - sounds like it could be on a soundtrack. Great job!
