Ok dumb question-Do you mean on the way in or in he FX bin after? As far as sounding better. Feel like an idiot!

One further point which might or might not have been addressed above - unless you are really comfortable setting compessor thresholds, ratio, attack & release, you might end up damaging an otherwise perfect take. With the inherent headroom of 24 bit recording you don't NEED to commit to "tape" so early in the process.

    Your mileage may vary

Thank you all for your responses.

Although a long time user, not much last couple of years.

Setting up new comp, interface, patch panels, routings,....

Read the Help files. Tried as suggested above. Some changed. Others only for that track.

'Tis a puzzlement.   Will try more today.

    Thank you

Jerry Goldsmith's score for my favorite movie, L.A. Confidential, captures/enhances the mood so well. He taps into the collective pop culture memory of Dragnet with the tympani, strings and brass. I can't hear it without picturing Ed, Bud and Jack prowling the turn of the 50's. Bill Parker and the change from a small-town policing model to a high tech military model looms in the near future. Jerry was born and raised in Los Angeles and was in his 20's during the years depicted in the film. The ideal composer for the job:

Jerry is responsible for the haunting soundtrack of one of my favourites - Alien from 1979

The score encapsulates the horror, lonelieness and very unsettling nature of the entire film

  4. Well after jumping through many hoops, I've got an updated version of CDA installed on my laptop. This was done via the Sony & Magix websites, after digging through decade old emails to find my serial number.

I can't test it because there's no CD burner on the laptop

Next step is - can I replicate this "success" on my studio machine

    Stay tuned 😃

    Hi

I still burn CD's and I still use CD architect - nearly every day

I have windows 10 on my new i9 Computer

There was an update to CD architect about 3 or 4 years ago - did you get that?

    Cheers

    Nigel

Hi Nigel. No, I never saw that, but if it's at all possible to get CDA working then I'd rather do that.

    Thanks!

  6. Hi all

    Is anyone still burning CD's?

The reason I ask is that up until now, I've always used CD architect but it's become really flakey running on Win 10 and I would like a suitable alternative

Something that will let me import an entire album, insert track markers and assign track names, album name, production credits etc

As ever, the internet can be a complete lottery with many hits leading to dodgy sites and other dubious links

Free or paid, makes no difference to me, but hopefully anything that comes with a price should provide suitable after sales service

    Thanks

    Glenn Stanton,

Thanks for your thoughts on this.  This is a new one for me.

I would think that if I hear the VocalSync track soloed and sounding fine during 'live' playback it would also sound fine when exported to a .wav file because Cakewalk has all the time in the world to process any effects.  It's only when I hear the  exported .wav file that I hear the distortion problem.  I find that to be a surprise.

You could easily rule out one problem by rendering the clip and exporting that, see how it sounds

The strange thing is that when you delete the entire program including its folders, and when you reinstall it, the folders that you deleted including the program and the icons do not return.

I tried to look for the icons and projects folder on my PC but I can't find it even though I reinstalled the program several times and deleted everything

Deleting & reinstalling probably isn't the best way forward here.

If you've deleted all its folders with Windows Explorer there's a chance you've deleted all your projects as well. I hope this isn't the case.

Reinstalling the program will NOT reinstate any projects that might have been deleted.

If you can find your projects, make a note of the folder location.

Then open up Cakewalk, go to Preferences > File> Folder Locations and make sure the first entry is correct

oh, to answer the question - yes i have made those cables as i didn't have a proper patch bay years ago, and they work fine. also - many inserts on mixers have a 2-step (at least older ones did) where you could insert partially to get the signal without breaking the path (e.g. Tapco etc) so you only needed a mono cable, so if its feeling like it's not seated with the TRS, make sure it's fully inserted into the jack.

    Sniff & break
