I think 9 was a worthwhile upgrade. I skipped 10, and then upgraded to 11 to support the developers. They are very innovative and have found an interesting DAW niche for creative musicians, rather than recording engineers. But under the hood, the program is really deep, and if you master the racks system you will have very flexible routing abilities.

At the time of my last upgrade, the devs still seemed committed to update the documentation. But on a recent Tracktion live-stream, Woody admitted that as a very small company, they do not currently have the resources to hire a full time tech writer.  They acknowledge that it is lacking. But this is the only software product that I own that does not have at least basic documentation for the many included features.

Makes me sad because this is a decent DAW, but as a now and then tool for me, I need an up-to-date feature manual that I can flip open as needed. Trying to find answers scattered among dozens of videos is time consuming and easily zaps any inspiration I may have had. But they seem to think that is what the majority of their user base prefers. 😢

I hate reference  and howto videos. I don't want to sit through pointless nattering and long winded intros to get to the meat. Give me something to read!!!

  2. 500.

At the current rate, it looks like it is headed for ~2500 participants so 28 synths for the price of one. Of course, previous GBs have shown us that you really can't predict how it is going to go in the end. IKM may even extend the GB if the target is not reached in 30 days. All that to say, anything can happen.

This topic is about the IK group buy, and info related to the product, and not the merits of a company's business practices. Please start another new thread to continue discussing that. Thanks! :)

Thanks for sharing that info.  I can't say that I've heard of those companies.

So would I presume these companies are smaller compared to IK, correct?  Correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't know about the size of all the companies. Sonuscore is fairly well known. But why should that make a difference? Because a company is large, it should absorb the cost of downloads? And if they don't, that makes them scuzzy and evil?

Maybe you or someone else could shed some light…

What companies(that specialize in large sample libraries) also charge a re-download fee for sound content?  Because I’ve yet to encounter them(besides IK).  And I’d be genuinely curious to know.

Sonuscore for one. In fact, when I try to download something I purchased in April 2021, I get the message: Sorry, this download has expired: Go to shop. Looks like I would have to buy the product all over again.

Fluffy Audio states this: Download links will expire seven days after this E-mail is sent. And there are limited download attempts for downloading your product. We suggest to backup your product to be able to recover your files anytime.

Sampletraxx has the same policy as Fluffy. They both use Fastspring for their downloads so it may that way for any Fastspring downloads.

Audiofier is another that uses Fastpring. Their email states: The link will expire in 7 days, so please hurry up 🙂

Xtant Audio has the same message as Sonuscore when I try to download past purchases.

These are some examples from my last year of purchases. Now it may be that if I contacted support, they might be willing to reinstate a download for free, but no where on their websites do they specify that this service is available. Fortunately I have not had to find out

I would like to point out that just because some or even the majority of company follow a certain policy, not all companies should follow that policy. IKM implimented download charges for a reason, and I don't believe for a moment they did it because they were evil or trying to do something underhanded.

    Update:

Just checked Fluffy's FAQ. Looks like they can reinstate download link if you contact support.

    a sheisty re-download fee.  //Sheesh, don't be evil, IK

But hey, to each your own...

Have at it.  How you waste money is entirely up to you ✌️

I don't find it sheisty or evil. And I am not going let a measly potential $10 charge stop me from purchasing from a company that gives me good value in their poducts. If you want to avoid a company based on an out of perspective principle, as you say, have at it. It is your loss. Fine by me.✌️

Damn it!! I may end up getting in on this!! The lure is just too strong!!

Spent my "budget" for this month. Fortunately, April is almost over and the GB will still be going strong in May. Probably like a lot of people, I'll jump in at 10 freebies.

This is a big one for me… I still despise IK’s policy on having to pay a fee to re-download content after a certain amount of time has passed. (shady, if you ask me)

I can't understand why people get their panties in such a knot over this one. I know IK Multimedia could foster a lot of good will by doing away with this but it is all of $10 for crying out loud. I have spent more on plugins that turned out to be garbage and were useless to me. Even spent more on duplicate plugins I had forgotten I already had. And IKM is not the only company to expire download access. Some even expire after a week or two. To me 180 days is quite reasonable.

There are a lot of things to complain about with the way IKM has done stuff in tbe past. This is way down the list for me.

The v2 clearly adds NEW PRESETS to the 22 original instruments, but DOES NOT convert/upgrade the pre-existing v1 presets to the v2 format! Only the "new" presets supplied are in the v2 compatible format.

I believe that is the root of the confusion and  misunderstanding.

For me this was the misunderstanding on my part.

This was it for me also, and not really understanding what the Edit button did. I assumed that the Edit button was for editing all the parameters of a synth not just the Wave Sets. So I thought that if S2 CS and SE did not upgrade V1 synths, I was stuck with the V1 presets as is with no way to modify them. I was wrong of course.

They sure make things really confusing (to the extent that no other company comes close). Then you have to dig through forums, FAQs, explanations and experiment just to (try to) figure out their product line.

I have S2 SE and S1 deluxe with the 22 synths. For a synth that's included in S2 SE, the new presets work in edit mode, the old ones don't. Full S2 allows S1 presets in edit mode and S2 SE doesn't? What if you didn't have S1 before getting S2, would S2 still include S1 presets?  And S2 SE doesn't? Even for synths included in S2 SE?  This is getting silly.

This is incorrect as has already been explained earlier in the thread. Full S2 does not allow S1 presets in edit mode. Edit mode is a new feature for S2 and only works with S2 presets. Note that you can still do all the same things to S1 presets in S2 that you could do in S1, ie the instrument interface is still available for S1 presets.

OK, IK why do you make this is confusing!!?

I had the full version of Syntronik 1, with every synth that went with it too. When Syntronik came out I installed Syntronic CS. Now when I click the icon in my start menu, it shows Syntronic 2, and once this programs starts, there is no indication that it is any other than Syntronic 2. No CS, no SE nothing. Not even on the Info page of the app is it shown that this was not the full version of Syntronik. So I was under the impression that I had the full version.

In IKPM, scrolling through My Products and seeing "Syntronik 2" installed and authorized. Well why am I not able to edit the synths I had if I have Syntronik 2. Well I just happened to click the Products tab under Syntronik and it revealed  that my version was only the CS version, and not the full version. Another little thing about IKPM that I don't like!!

I found this page that compares all the different versions of Syntronik. And it shows that I should have some v2 presets for my already owned Syntronik 1 synths, but I don't. Does anyone here have the CS version of Syntronik 2, and have all the synths from Syntronik 1, and are showing any Syntronik 2 presets with it?

My current understanding is that there is no difference in the underlying program between the different versions of  Syntronik 2. The total difference is in the content. You may not be seeing any Syntronik 2 presets because you have not downloaded the sound content for CS. You can do this in the Product manager.

You also have to download the V2   presets for previously purchased synths if you get 2 or Max.

I owned J-60 and V-80 previously but still had to download the new sound content in order to see the V2 presets.

We have a FAQ entry now, words from the expert himself Mr Erik Norlander:

    https://www.ikmultimedia.com/faq/?id=1431

I already have Syntronik Deluxe with the 22 original Synths. Why do I need to buy them again for Syntronik 2?

The Syntronik 2 version of the original 22 Synths adds new presets built using the updated Syntronik 2 engine that works with the new EDIT page, and it also adds the essential Wave Sets for each Synth that enable you to select the sound in each oscillator.

You can use the original Syntronik 1 version of these Synths with the free Syntronik 2 CS software. The presets will sound exactly the same, and you can edit the presets in the same way as in Syntronik 1. You will also have access to the new effects and step sequencer of Syntronik 2. But you will NOT be able to access the new EDIT page and use the Wave Sets since those require the updated sound content created with the Syntronik 2 engine that are only available in the Syntronik 2 versions of the Synths.

Thanks for clarifying this. So "upgrading" previous purchased synths really means just adding V2 presets (not that this is insignificant). It however does nothing with the V1 presets.

Isn't it cheaper than buying Syntronik 2 SE?  You've met an IK group buy before, right? :)

See my message, I state exactly what you get with these V2 synths.

I saw your message. I guess I didn't state my question very well. You do say you get V1 and V2 presets but can you edit the V1 presets if you only have CS or SE? My experience with getting the free Syntronik 2 V-80 and the Syntronik 2 J-60 is that you cannot edit the V1 presets. So the Tracks option on the Edit page is useless if you cannot get to the Edit page.

It is stated the product page of Syntronik 2 in the Version comparison, that CS and SE hosts previously purchased synths, but 2 and MAX  upgrades previously purchased synths. The real issue is what is meant by upgrading previously purchased synths. Does upgrading convert V1 presets to V2 presets and thus allow you to edit them, or does it just add V2 presets which are editable in Syntronik 2, but the V1 presets are still not editable?

  15. 1 hour ago, Peter - IK Multimedia said:

No the ones you buy in the GB are v2, but if you take this to the top tier that doesn't matter :)

I think the issue is that, at least for me, even when a synth is V2, not all the V1 presets are included in V2, and it seems like you cannot edit the V1 presets in Syntronik 2. My understanding is that if you purchase Syntronik 2 or Max, your V1 synths are upgraded to V2 enabling you to edit the V1 presets in Syntronik 2. Can anyone verify this?

I could see grabbing a few of them, particularly the Oberheim Matrix-12, the Korg DW-8000, and the Waldorf Microwave

I got the Syntronik 2 V-80 (Yamaha CS-80) and the Syntronik 2 J-60 (Roland Juno 60) for free, and they sound great!

The J-60 is available for free from Computer Music #307, May 2022.

The Syntronik 2 V-80 was a freebie for 2 weeks, earlier this year at Audio Plugin Deals (expired).

Good reminder for me. I had gotten the V-80 from APD but had forgotten to register the serial. I am not expecting it to qualify for the GB but glad to have another toy to play with. Now I need to check out the CM freebie.
