For what it's worth, I prefer SPL Iron and Elysia Alpha Comp more than any SSL Buss compressor I've used. Once again both of these are different to each other.

Iron I use more for buss duties and glue, Alpha I use more for mastering, as it's so versatile and great sounding. I'll often A-B Iron against some of the various SSLs from a number of Devs on a song and end up using Iron more often.

But sometimes the SSL sound just fits better. That's why it's good having a few different options 🙂

Personally I prefer both of these to Shadow Hills as well, even though I know the Shadow Hills are lots of people's favourite.

Agree... exactly the same usage here, Elysia Alpha at mastering Iron at mixing... I also have real Iron and G bus clone (Tk Audio) on my hardware mix inserts. I like the results, but Tk g-bus comp does extremely little compression, sometimes not even visible at all - and at a ration of 1:2... nice additional glue. Iron hardware compresses more, on my hardware insert - about 1db on average.
PA Iron plugin is extremely good tool for mixing. Shadow Hills Mastering Comp I use for it's dual compressor capabilities at mixing stage and for a different flavour.... never in Mastering though 🙂

    Just my 2 cents 🙂

You can get the "Knobs" version at Thomann for $425 and about $50 shipping...
    https://www.thomannmusic.com/softube_console_1_mk_2.htm?listPosition=1&ref=hea_sea_rslt_Console%2B1_406035_0_1

Guys I have Console 1 (knob version) that has been occasionally used for a few months, now sitting in the box as it doesn't fit on my workspace. I have additional Neve channel strip = British Class A for Console 1 plugins as well (plus of course included SSL channel). I can let it go for cheap. If interested PM me.

It sounds great, as all Softube stuff but I have almost all UAD and PA plugins + more, so don't miss it. The promised UAD integrations , which works great for the implemented plugins has been abandoned by Softube and no new UAD plugins get the control 1 surface support, that was slight disappointment.

For the price of Console 1 and included channel strips, you can do much worse elsewhere.

I really shouldn't have opened this thread but since I was always interested in Majectica I bought it.  There went my money for the 3 Modo kits.   Oddly enough I probably would rarely use each one anyway.

Odd that they compressed the download to a 22gb file.  That's asking for trouble.

I'm in the similar boat... still thinking about it. Told myself ... no more sounds in a while, use what you have!

    There are lots of compressors.

Does any one know if any of them has upward  compression?

Buy once and buy the best! Multiplicity by DMG audio... and you can apply for an EDu discount (if applicable)... That and the Limitless are truly worth every penny... not cheap though, but replace many other plugins.

From PA you can look into the  elysia alpha compressor, and the elysia mpressor... I believe they both offer Upward leveling.

Yeah, Sand 4 is potentially slightly better sounding but a real resource hog so on my computers not something I'd use across a mix like I can do with the PA strips.

And as cool as the UI is for Sand4, I also tend to think it isn't as user friendly for making adjustments quickly.  (and also agree that I personally prefer other bus comps to the G-related Townhouse, though I tend to use it on some mixes depending on the sources/style and with speed constraints as it is really really easy to setup quickly.

Yes indeed absolutely the same experience... Almost completely stopped using Acustica stuff due to many reliability issues and CPU taxing... even though they sound great, but algorithmic plugins are catching up at a fast speed in recent 2-3 years... it's good times 🙂

Different animals. Townhouse is like an older, coloured, grungy (in a good way!) kind of vibe. Great on drum buss, or master buss in particular.

9000J is punchy, modern, wide and nice highs. Great on the same busses and versatile enough to use on tracks as well.

If they're the same price I'd go 9000J as it's a strip, so more versatile, but if you're more interested in the compressor side only, then both are good choices, just different 🙂

Thanks MusicMan, this info will get me to demo the 9000J 🙂

I also prefer the 9000J.  Have the 4000E and it rarely gets used.  I just like having it in the tool box for comparison as I think everyone should be familiar with it.

If you are looking for a glue bus compressor function only then yes, I'd prefer the Townhouse for that function.

PA has quite a few good bus compressor types in this sale, I'd demo to see what you prefer.

Thanks Brian, why I asked is that I've demoed Townhouse a while back and found Acustica Audio  Sand4 to be marginally better. I have seldom used G-bus compressor other than on the mix bus, where I have a hardware. ITB for mixing I prefer Iron,  Elysia Alpha comp, Shadow Hills , Chandler Zener etc... The 9000J could be an interesting option especially for the on-the-road where Acustica Sand could easily be to hefty on the processing power.

Guys, any 1st hand experiences with Sand 4 vs PA 9000J?

When I tested all the SSLs I preferred that one. The others weren't bad and I might pick up the E, or G at some stage, but not feeling a need yet. I've got a few SSL G style compressors etc, including Townhouse Buss Compressor from PA which does that OK too.

Is bus comp in Townhouse better than  9000J, or?

  9. As per usual, all I want is off the list... They loose so much money with their weird pricing schemes and tricks... It's almost sickening how much they try to manipulate us in their buying hysteria... Well it is a business after all, but starts to feel rather cheesy ...

I mean the title.. ANY ... then small print... well not any, and just 3 $ bellow the threshold to use your monthly 25 $ voucher... ah well

  10. Just a quick heads up... Sphere L22 mic is amazing, have been using it for past 2 years... for me a true game changer... kid you not. But needs UAD Bill Putney plugin for amazingly sounding emulations

ouch , mine is just 3 years i'm pissed off , wife tells me " why buying top notch stuff since it goes down like that" ....  true either i go for a great tone with waranty extensions or a regular one  .... and keep in my mind that i will have to change it soon after the 2 years of waranty since it seem synced to that obsolescene

So true like they are programmed to stop working week after the warranty expires. I stick with Siemens and Bosch... my Siemens washing machine is going strong for 17 years now, but not a big family so easy use

Usually when I start with a fresh install (which is rare) I install less with the thought of "I never use the app anyway". Over time that smaller disk space creeps back up with more hoarding.

Yes of course that makes sense :-). Thanks for clarifying! Come to think of it re-install isn't a big deal for me on the PC side.. couple of hours maybe 3 with all the plugins installs etc

The only blessing to that is you often cut down on apps only to start the cycle of acquiring more stuff.

Sorry didn't catch your drift 🙂

I use WaveLab 11 pro and Cubase (occasionally) on my PC... It is for mix capture and Mastering only... the rest is on Mac . W10 works great, oh and I have Network and Wifi switched off as well... Hope this helps  🙂

Think of it as a great opportunity to not buy things that you don't really need. 😀

Positive thinking brought to you by Paulo.â„¢

Don't know your position in Mac vs PC matters Paulo, but found your comment funny in that regard... if you were a Mac preacher 😊

Just to be clear, I use and love both

i tried to update and got stuck with an error at 70 % of the install (same for a lot of people) , no way i 'm doing a whole clean install now , to much work .... and i have 2 comps to update verytime to stay on sync ..... windows 10 supposed to be a smooth update but i'm not luky it seems ....

I didn't even bother as yet to try to upgrade my Windows machines, as main comps are Macs. Complete re-install takes time...

I think the business model is "loose money on every sale but make up for it in volume."

    I'm in great idea... 😃

actually come to think of it, this isn't far from the truth for a working musician - composer -producer

I've bought a bunch of hardware from them, but never thought of them as a software vendor. Thanks y'all for pointing that out. I've been happy with Thomann's service and prices.

Yes, they only started selling downloadable software few years ago, but have since provided very good price for some vendors like Leapwing audio and Eventide... my last purchases through Thomann

Stefano Maccarelli has stated on the Sample Libraries' facebook page that T+S and Zero-G are not the same entity. So it looks like Zero-G's fortunes are not entwined in T+S's.

Thanks Doug, from what I remember, Zero G was like a production company and T+S was a distributor. That was how I envisage their roles.

I've purchased from Thoman before at a time when they had a better price for TT MIDI packs. Timely delivery of the serial numbers.

Thomann is steadily providing better and better software deals for us here in Europe.  Very good company have been using them for all sorts of purchases in past two decades
