I would have Unified them Fleer, if I owned them :) I like a lot of their libraries but I stopped buying them when I realised that I couldn't resell them.
I guess Composer Cloud might be a way of obtaining them to Unify, but we are talking about some pretty huge libraries so not sure I have the disk space.

Simeon's been Unifying a lot of Spitfire libraries, so maybe EastWest could be his next venture?  Then again I watched one of his videos on VSL BB recently, and I think he said that Unifying this type of library could be tricky as the player is so much a part of how it operates. Maybe that's also true of Opus or Play IDK?

The Spitfire Player libraries are fairly straightforward to Unify so they have been a good way for me to get started.
I am not sure where things stand as far as Unifying Kontakt libraries as there was some major issues with the recent Kontakt update which caused problems finding sample content, I am keeping my eyes peeled for more info concerning that one.

With the Synchron Player, it is more about figuring out what Linked Parameters to assign to the Macro Knobs. When I took a look at all of the parameters that Synchron was exposing it blew my mind. They were including every parameter for around 19 different mixes, I guess to cover surround applications, with each one of the mixes all of the effects and sends parameters were exposed, so it took me by surprise but I am working through it ;^)

With today's latest Originals Abe Laboriel Drums, i will be interested in seeing how I can remap the notes so that they might be used with the included drum grooves inside of Unify. I will work on it as soon as it lands here.

I would also LOVE to learn more about how to use Auto Hot Key, it sounds like a very helpful tool when doing these sorts of repetitive tasks.

It is really encouraging to see our user community here helping like they do, kudos all around.

    Joyfully,
    Simeon

@Simeon Amburgey I was wondering, I don't use loops, and considering that it's a 19GB I thought the two included drum libraries might be pretty detailed. What are your initial thoughts on it for someone like me, who is a drummer, who is purely looking for drum sample libraries to play from a midi controller? I wasn't sure if it is comparable to say a very good multisampled drum kit (e.g., Superior Drummer, Addictive Drums, Abbey Road Drums -- for KONTAKT -- etc.)..

There are two kits available (standard, and trash kit). I was having fun checking out the “vibes” and they sounded very good. I need to revisit the individual sounds but for the price it is a nice addition, I have typically used MODO Drum for most of my arrangements, specifically the Yamaha Studio kit.

    More to come.

Next thing, Amazon purchases Avi, Google purchases steinberg and Microsoft purchases Cakewalk  😂😂😂😂😂

    Don't laugh!
When I was on the Amiga working with Bars and Pipes, Microsoft purchased Blue Ribbon Soundworks for some of their generative music products to try and integrate some of the technology into Windows, so it could happen, but let's hope that it doesn't!
I think Cakewalk is probably in its best position at the moment and I hope it continues to gain positive momentum in the music creation community.

  4. Abbey Road ONE is currently 30% off for a limited time.
I have found it very useful in putting arrangements together very quickly and they sound amazing.

In other news, I have completed UNIFYING Abbey Road ONE and all of the current Abbey Road ONE Film Scoring Selections.

Ben's videos were all I needed.  But I'm sure there will be numerous ones coming.   I expect there will be something from our own @Simeon Amburgey

But it really is a library where you can just load a preset and play.  He's set it all up for you.

He really did a great job with this.
It is so exciting to see how he continues to grow and come up with these fantastic ideas and applications.

  6. You might need to bundle up for this one. We  just went through some crazy winter weather and waking up to possible single digits.

I will be taking a look at Appassionata, Tetrality, LABS Glass Piano, and possibly some fun with UNIFY.  I am also going to be doing a special livestream sneak peek of a new arrangement I am releasing that was inspired by Cinematic Frozen Strings,

I look forward to seeing you at 11:00 am EST.
    Bring some hot chocolate 🤓

@Simeon Amburgey I checked your livestream that you did in last November. Do you recommend it for a hobbyist at 50% off?

It's really huge, and it might not be for everyone.
I myself would not see me using it as a daily driver so to speak.
I would probably look for some of the other more practical string libraries to go on sale first.
Myself, I would love to experience Spitfire Chamber Strings as they seem to be a real favorite and go to for a lot of composers.

I am loving Appassionata however as well, very nice to add that really nice legato on top of an arrangement. I will be featuring those in the morning around 11:00 am ;^)

I think the general rule of thumb is that if they are factory presets you are already clear to use them as Unified presets, as they would be useless to someone unless they already had a license for the underlying instrument the presets are based on.

But it's probably always a nice gesture to ask! :)

    I definitely agree.
Here is more detail on what has been done up to this point.

  9. Regarding permissions, John presents some detail here, from a discussion I had on the forums when I first started learning how to use Unify.
I thought it would be helpful to share his thoughts with all of you as well.

    Quote

I am not sure of a direct "Yes you have our permission" from Spitfire in regard to LABS, but I told Christian (multiple times via email) and even sent him videos of what we were doing for the BBC Symphony Orchestra and while brief in his replies, he has always been supportive and enthusiastic.

As I said, I didn't mention LABS to him because I don't need to, and this was a very out of the blue occurrence when these arrived 8 days ago. Our "UNIFIED" libraries are equivalent to the NKS format from Native Instruments except we're doing it ourselves instead of us telling companies they can create the content and pay a license fee to us in order to do so. There is nothing illegal that I am aware of by freely distributing the factory patches supplied by a retail plug-in in different file format. You still MUST own the actual plug-in, we're only saving the current state of these plug-ins. Otherwise, these companies should all be upset at every DAW manufacturer. We're doing exactly what they do except we let you play the parts in real-time.

Here is the link to the full thread:

It is also hopeful that at some point there will be more of an "official" declaration from Spitfire concerning this. I would think they are up to their eyeballs working on so many different projects and Unify is probably just a small blip on the radar, a blip that is getting larger by the moment. ;^)

    Joyfully!

Cool, Simeon. I look forward to checking it out.   Check out the link--it's from the Unify Forum..  Simeon has been on a tear, doing a LOT of Spitfire stuff. 😄

Did you have to get permission from Spitfire?

    Reid,
It seems that it might not be something required, as John has not mentioned that aspect to me in our recent working together. I was following his pattern of past Originals releases and picking up that baton.

John mentioned he was going to try and reach out to Christian about what we were doing and hopefully get some more interest in what Unify can bring to the table.

I also posted on the Spitfire Audio user forum as well, so it will be interesting to see the response.

The thing is, unifying victual instruments and libraries is an essential component to strengthen what I am calling the Unify Ecosystem. The prospects of having what I am also calling a "Meta" (I know new buzzword) Template using Unify is really promising but it requires more "unified" patch libraries to make it viable.

I think we are definitely on our way!

  11. Recently while learning more about Unify and how I might help others understand it more, I started creating "Unified" patch libraries.
I started with the Spitfire Originals, as they are not that complicated but having a Unified version makes things so much easier to work with inside of Unify.

I am calling this an "Open Beta" where you can download and install the patch libraries to help make sure they are working, and also open it up for you to submit your own user patches that you might come up with. Any user patch to be considered for inclusion in any updated library must use the UNIFY STANDARD LIBRARY, this is to ensure the most compatibility.

You can get a look and download what I have so far from this thread on the Plugin Guru site.
I hope you find this useful and stay tuned for much more ahead.

The assignment in this scoring competition was to make music for a short film, "Haunted House," by  the group Darkstar.

    https://www.spitfireaudio.com/haunted-house-scoring-competition/

All the sounds in this came from Spitfire Audio's $29 Darkstar Haunted House library, with the exception of the vocal, which is Bronte from the Evolution Series.   I was going for a "Twin Peaks" vibe.    This is also my second binaural mix, so please use headphones.

I'm not crazy about Spitfire's player, so I loaded everything but Bronte in Unify.  This made something that was very frustrating to use into smooth sailing..  I may do a video on how I set it all up, but I will wait until I officially lose this contest.  😄

This was good to do because there was a brief video I could use without being concerned with rights, plus the discipline of trying to do it all with one library.  That was something I did before with the Evolution Series with my video  NAIAD.

    Trippy ;^)
The binaural effects are really interesting.

So just a quick heads up.
I have been working on Unifying Spitfire Originals titles that I have and posting them on the plugin Guu forum.
I just finished Unifying Darkstar Haunted House.

You can download the unified patch library from this post here:

  13. I still use my Roland XP-50, I actually had all of the surface mount capacitors replaced as they had started leaking, what an amazing job the tech performed, it is good as new. There is something about that XP sound that had a punch to it.  The closest thing I have to a physical DX7, is a TX7, which is sort of a desktop DX7 module, RX11 Drum Machine, and an Emu Proteus. I had a Korg DW8000 for a short time.

Having the TX816 available in Unify is really amazing and a lot of fun rediscovering those massive FM layers.

    Simeon, nice work!!!

In the basic patch, the bass register seemed pretty light, compared to the upper mids which were ultra clear and loud.

Were the lower mids and bass really that suppressed, or would you say that's a YouTube recording anomaly?

Thanks, I enjoy your reviews very much.

    Cheers,

    -Tom

It could have been a YouTube thing,
Another suspect would be the light action on the SL88: Grand, I would have to double check.

I hope that this collaboration with Impact Soundworks will yield some more instruments like this 🤓
