  1. I've been freezing tracks when I start to load the processor but one thing I've noticed is that if I have a track that has a midi-enabled effect like Waves  or Melda Harmonizer (with a midi track providing the notes), the track will freeze but there isn't any harmony.

I assume there is a logical reason for this. If I'm doing it wrong I'd like to know. Harmony plugins use a lot of processor time and it would be nice to be able to freeze the track and unload the processor.

  2. I will often do a few takes, edit and use Melodyne to correct it, then sing along with that for a couple of days and then re-record the vocal track. It usually only takes one or two takes and requires little correction after that.

But as I am formulating the vocal melody, I can be all over the map so it helps to do some editing and correction to make it what I finally want to sing. Then learn and sing that.

  3. The setting isn't in the latest manual I have and it's skipped over in the VST configution section of the manual (pg 1036). What does it actually do?

I noticed that some FX plug-ins that use midi input need it while others don't. It also moves a plugin from the Insert Audio FX list to the Insert Soft Synth list. I was wondering why MHamonizer and Waves Harmony kept disappearing and found them in the Insert Soft Synth. Uncheck the box and they move back.

I want to understand exact what that setting does. I though it was essentially the same as enabling midi input but it has to go beyond that.

    Thanks for any insight.

  4. I have Studio and do like that I can see all of the clip blobs at once and don't have to click on the clip in track view to switch. That was worth the $149 upgrade for me. Once I got used to the Orange vs Gray selection of the tracks it became very easy. I haven't played with the other features of studio yet.

One thing I was trying that I couldn't figure out was how to take a vocal melody and change every blob to the same note so it's monotone. I think I'm stuck dragging each block to the note. Not a big deal though.

Midi dragging and polyphonic was available in Editor.

  5. While there might be tweaks to stop the noise, odds are you are running out of processor.

As said above, freeze any tracks with lots of plugins and see if it gets better.

Also,  check that your processor isn't overheating especially if you are using a laptop. Overheating will slow the processor down to reduce the heat. Get the app "Core Temp." Blow the dust out of the PC if you see over temp.

Possible fix to TTS- 1 problems that crash Cakewalk.  Current as of Novemeber 2022.   Update/install from Microsoft's download center, the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer.  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/Download/details.aspx?id=35

Details:  Started using Cakewalk a few years ago as a retirement hobby.  TTS-1 worked great even with multiple instances in a project.  W10 PC.  All that I've changed/updated in the last few years are updates to the W10 operating system and Cakewalk software updates.  Cakewalk is currently on Version:  2022.11 (Build 013, 64 bit).  When I first started, I built a new project template with multiple instances of TTS-1 and that's what I've been using for years with no problems when I start a new project.  It still works with 4 instances of TTS; i.e those instances work and I use them for bass guitar, vocal aahs, a lead synth, and a sound effect.  Even if I delete all those instances/tracks and add a new track with a TTS-1 instrument, whenever I either click the opened TTS sound preview icons or the keyboard in the piano roll (i.e. anytime I ask the TTS to produce sound), the entire Cakewalk program immediately crashes.  Since TTS-1 is a DirectX instrument, I did a bunch of experimenting to see what,  if anything, would fix this problems and get things working like they did when I first started.  By using the link above, here is what Microsoft says it does:  "The Microsoft DirectX® End-User Runtime installs a number of runtime libraries from the legacy DirectX SDK for some games that use D3DX9, D3DX10, D3DX11, XAudio 2.7, XInput 1.3, XACT, and/or Managed DirectX 1.1. Note that this package does not modify the DirectX Runtime installed on your Windows OS in any way."  I don't care why this worked, I just know it did.  I'm also not interested in hearing the few bozos on these forums preach about not using multiple instances or quit trying to use old "stuff" and find something new, followed by no recommendations of what, where, or how much the "new" is.  A huge shout out to those on these forums that invest their precious time to help the masses who genuinely need your help.  Thank you.

I tried this and still get the crash. I'm not surprised especially considering the efforts to resolve this in the past. So I think the rule of "Use it first, use it fast, freeze and get out" still applies. But thanks for this. I'm glad to see others are still looking for a potential solution.

One difference though is that it just closes CbB rather than giving the usual crash error. Might be unrelated.

  7. Thanks everyone, that's some detailed info.

As asked, when I download, I just change the extension to cwb. The file opens fine. If I forget to change it, I just rename it when it's done and it opens fine.

Interestingly, the extension isn't changed when I send bundles back to him. They stay cwb, It's like Google learned something on my side that can't be changed. The file will show as a .cwb on My Drive but when I go to download it, the file manager window shows it as .wav. So it's some association there.

I've never had an issue sending bundles around. If I ever do, I will certainly switch to zip files. But for backups I copy all of the files directly with no bundles or zip.

  8. Fixed. And it's still sort of weird. But ...

I somehow turned on Bass Boost in Enhancements for "Speaker Properties." But the effect was that Cakewalk played it correctly and any other wave program (any and all) reduce the bass. I flipped it back on and no change. Bass is still correct. So something weird was up in Windows. Somehow this involves girls too. Always does.
