    The kicker from the article:

    Final thoughts

So. Yeah. That. Another thing that goes without saying is that if you can get this to work with the current test build of Windows 11, it might not work when the actual release of Windows 11 is shipped. It might not even work when the next test build of Windows 11 is pushed out. But if you're impatient, and want to get Windows 11 running on an unsanctioned device, go for it.

    Probably this one: https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/forum/7-instruments-effects/

But it sounds like it didn't actually have anything to do with Cakewalk as such, so who knows. Glad it was resolved.

I'd not expect anything more useful than a cute cat picture from a company's Facebook page.

Izotope used to have support links on their web site.  Now they refer you to their Facebook page for support.   I agree not good.

  3. It happened to all my Izotope programs.  As previously noted the only change was the missing iLok key.  Even though I moved registrations off of iLok there must have still been some connection.  As all Izotope programs have been reinstalled without the iLok hopefully it won't happen again.  Ozone 5 goes back to the "Sonar" days,  so its been installed for a long time.

Ozone 5, "Country Basic" is my most used Ozone mastering pre set.  I've got newer Ozone versions, but for me newer isn't better.

I had this problem once . Solved by reinstalling. However i don’t use iLok.

Then this wasn't an isolated case.  If two of us have had the same problem, probably others.  Do you recall doing or changing anything before this happened.

No Need to reinstall the programs if the presets have been deleted.  Go to iZotopes website and in their support section there will be a FAQ that links you to all of the presets that can be downloaded in zip files.  You just either extract them back into the Documents folder or manually drap and drop them into the folder to restore your presets.

Reinstalling (actually uninstall/reinstall) from their Product Portal app was easy and fast.  No need to go looking for the presets, the reinstall took care of that (and any updates).

    They're usually found in C:\Users\YourName\Documents\iZotope.

I have Izotope plugins on my laptop and studio pc, using both dongle and machine, but I have never had this happen (yet).

    All the best.

I looked in the file folders and all the presets were gone.   One of the first things I did.

Ozone 5, 6, 8 Elements and 9.  Also two versions of Nectar.

  7. If this is not the right forum section???

I recently moved and in the move my iLok key has turned up missing.   I'm still looking but it mainly affects using the POD Farm.  Initially, I had Izotope plugins activated via iLok but moved them off and activated via Computer last year.   I was going through some previously finished projects and noticed they didn't sound right.  I found the Ozone presets I had been using missing.  After checking all my Izotope products I found the same thing, all the factory presets missing.    I contacted Izotope, via their Facebook page but to be frank it was a waste of time as all the person wanted to do is say Windows (10) caused the problem.

I found (on my own troubleshooting) reinstalling all the Izotope plug-ins restored all the presets.

What really caused it????  But, the only change is the missing iLok key.   And, this only affected Izotope products, nothing else.

  8. FWIW a comment on Microsoft not supporting older hardware.  The less that is supported, the less code has to be written.  The less code that needs to be written the less programmers are needed, etc.

(I was a PCM Telemetry Processor Programmer at NASA on the Apollo and several other Apollo era projects).

  9. Dell provides spare/replacement parts for 5 years.  After that, if you need one of their proprietary parts, good luck.  There is a company, in Austin Tx, that resells Dell left over parts that they excess after the 5 years.  Parts are sketchy as its the leftovers.

  10. I look at it as Microsoft's call on what will or won't be compatible since they will upgrade it to Win 11 "free".  My working career was in computers (the last 23 years as a regional LAN/WAN Network and Hardware Help Desk Manager at SSA) and the one thing that was certain was hardware and software changing.

I have a graphics programmer friend that is in the same boat with a high end MAC; the latest MAC OS leaves his system out.

My desktop DAW system has an i7 8700K CPU and has TPM 2.0 but my Dell Inspiron 15 laptop that I sometimes use for recording has a 7th gen CPU so is out based on current Microsoft requirements.  No big deal, its 3 years old and there are many that consider 3 years as average lifespan of a laptop (many last longer but average is 3 years).  The laptop can continue with Win 10 until it dies.

Speaking of Dell, here is the current list of Dell PC's tested for Win 11.  CLICK

  11. Along  with the TPM 2.0, reports on the tenforums.com and 11 forums both quote Microsoft as an 8th gen Intel CPU is required.

My desktop DAW has TPM 2.0 and I have an i7 8700K CPU  and is Win 11 compatible.  However my 2018 Dell Inspiron 15 5577 only has a 7th gen Intel CPU and is not Win 11 compatible.  Not a big deal as long as Bandlab keeps Cakewalk compatible with Win 10.

  12. I have the new MOTU Ultralite Mk5 for my downsized home studio.  It is USB-C.  My Gigabyte Designare Z390 motherboard does not have a designated USB-C port but does have two Thunderbolt III ports.  I just got it and other than connecting and some quick tests I haven't done anything with it.   Latency is the same whether its connected to the Thunderbolt III or USB 3.0 or 3.1 on the Designare motherboard.   I have a Laptop with USB 3.0 port and latency is the same as the desktop.

Speaking of latency, the Mk5's latency at 64 samples is slightly more than it was with an older MOTU 896Mk3 Hybrid at 64 samples.  I had to go down to 32 samples to get a better input latency.   Reported latency at 32 samples (44.1Khz):  Input 1.34 ms/59 samples, Output 4.24 ms/187 samples.

  13. I moved back in February and some of my recording gear including an MOTU 4pre came up missing.   I'm still looking for it but to have an interface unit I bought the MAudio Air 192/14 based on previously (about 10 years ago) owning an MAudio Fastrack Ultra 8R that worked great.

Sadly, the Air 192/14 did not live up to expectations and is being returned.    I didn't get far into testing it but far enough that its not for me.  First latency is double what I had with the MOTU unit and even using the 192/14 with USB C.   But the real dog is the headphone output.  I tried playback with some previously mastered songs in Cakewalk.  With the MOTU everything is clear, vocals and instruments at proper levels.  With the 192/14 they are muffled and sounds like a tone control set on bass.  I can't even hear some instruments.   Whether this is how they all sound or I got a defective unit?  Either way its going back today, I got the RMA and free shipping label from American Musical.

But if you dont' format the files properly the meta data tags won't show the song names, album title, artist, etc.

This is easier to do with MP3 than it is for WAV files.  But it can be done of course.

This becomes much more relevant for anyone that is selling these things, or giving them out than it is for personal use where you know your own work.

The wav files have the song titles.  They show on my car system.  I don't use MP3's unless an absolute must.  MP3's are "something less than full fidelity".

  15. On a computer forum, audio flash drives replacing audio CD's was mentioned.  I had thought about that, but how are they formatted?  Is it just the wav song files are copied to a flash drive? or is there some sort of formatting?  Could or should both wav and MP3 files be put on the drive?

    Inquiring mind wants to know.

  17. I get PM messages with requests for the Behringer X-Touch Overlay for Cakewalk/Sonar.

It would be great if it could be hosted on-line where users could access/download it instead of my e-mailing it out.  I don't have a web site so I can't host it.
